@@PaleoCris !!!!CONGRATULATIONS!!!! Bri on finding the Mastadon tooth & tusk.
In my opinion, you both NEED to return to that location with some proper tools to
do a very thorough & methodic excavation of the bank & near-by riverbed.
You've barely "scratched the surface". I'm certain you'll find much more of the Mastadon that died here.
It would make a very interesting video.
      Best regards,
      Ben

Unless you are in an area where the alligators are feed by, and habitualized to, humans, they are very shy. I have done a lot of swimming/snorkling, and even wading at night, in rivers and swamps like this in the southeast. I wouldn't leave a baby sitting on the bank or let a chihuahua hang out there, but these two were in no danger.

In general, I agree with you.
I’ve been raised in Florida my entire 26 year old life. & I’ve swam in anything you could imagine & never had a problem…… Until this one time while fossil hunting.
They nest starting in June, & hatching ends sometime in late fall. I had one chase me(& When I say chase me, I mean, AGGRESSIVELY LEAVING THE BANK, hitting the water, & making a Bee line to me. She was swimming so fast she created a wake behind her. I crawled on shore, shaking….. only to turn around & her be nowhere to be found….
Now I believe you only live once so don’t live in fear. So I snorkel the creeks and rivers as if it never happened…… I just won’t ever go back to Baker Creek.

This was an amazing video with all those rare fossils. The Mastodon/Mammoth teeth and the tusks was absolutely beautiful. I once was given a Mammoth Molar which was about 11"l x 5" w x 9"h from a lady whose husband had passed, and he was a serious rock/fossil hunter many years ago. She told me I could have any or all of the rocks, and his basement was surrounded by shelves with unbelievable rocks and fossils and crystals. I did take several, but felt guilty even taken that many, but there was still a massive amount left. A few years later when moving I moved my collect outside, while taking items to my new address and when I got back all of them had been stolen, and the tooth as well. Hopefully they enjoyed my collection.
