- So it's been 6 months since the original splatfest iceberg video and a lot of new information has come to light thanks to you guys mainly who commentated. In this video, I'll cover some new information about existing topics as well as some brand new topics that I missed out on previously, I hope you enjoy.
Also this video does not cover every single new bit of info. I only included stuff that was major enough to put in the video or interesting enough to warrant talking about. Don't worry, I read all the comments. :)

There were some errors in this video. Let me clear some things up:
- Apparently Marina was NOT hypnotized by the Octarians. That was just a fan theory. The dialogue is probably just meta as this dialogue doesn't appear in the Japanese text.
- The Splatfest Demo in Splatoon 3 actually IS still playable as long as you DON'T have any save data unlike in the Splatoon 2 Demo where this did not work. All you can do is play the tutorial though.
- The reason why Australian players had NA's splatfests in Splatoon 2 is because the ping between those regions is much better than in EU.

This is an update for the topic of inklings not having tongues. Also spoilers for the story mode so if you haven’t played up to the 3rd boss fight go away.
Ok so during the shiver boss fight shiver sticks her tongue out while hopping onto her shark. During each phase of the battle this happens and it is super unnatural to look at.

Yeah in retrospect we jumped the trigger on the octolings all having hypnoshades theory without checking out some other previous Lore.
She wasn’t “indoctrinated”, that implies she wasn’t born into it. She was just “brainwashed” less literally, with propaganda shoved down her throat like every other octarian from day 1.
I dont think i remember winning a single splatfest, but they were still always a lot of fun. I'm rlly stoked to see how Splat 3's fests go, but i just rlly hope ppl don't stress too much over them and get all toxic because of potential imbalances in match making or scoring. Like at the end of the day your splatfest wins dont rlly count for much, like u can just not win a single fest and still be like the best player in the world. I just hope everyone tries to have fun and use it as a chance to come together.
Section 4 on splat fest guide says that the losing team has to except that the winning team won no exceptions

Marina’s free will is lie line seems in character for her to me just because she’s slightly less positive and a bit more bleak in her outlook on life because of her life with the Octarians.

I'd be interested in a Courage/Wisdom/Power (Triforce) Splatfest. Though the colors would be interesting. Maybe you'd choose colors that generally carry those meanings. Or choose colors that represent Link, Zelda, and Ganon respectively
That'd be a perfect splatfest theme considering they did a smash bros themed one in splatoon 2
Power is Red Courage is Green and Wisdom is Blue is what they do in Zelda except for aLttP where they had Power Blue and Wisdom Red

I'm not sure if this is actually the case, but what I think may have happened for the missing Splatfest ID is that there were different Splatfests programmed in for the final round of the turtles tournament but only one of them could actually happen.

a Splatfest in 3 could end in a tie between the two losing teams but there’ll never be a tie for the winning team: Clout (Open) was probably made 15p in case two teams won two categories each
i remember during the burger vs pizza splatfest i got the vs self colors even though i was playing against the opposite team, they even had the correct splatfest shirt on
damn that's very strange. I don't recall anything weird happening to me during that splatfest although I was on team burger so idk
I remember having 2 or 3 matches where the colors switched to the colors of the previous Splatfest. (Green and Purple for Priates VS. Ninjas instead of Green and Orange for Pizza VS. Burgers.) I was on Pizza so my color stayed green, but the opposing team would be Burgers and be purple. And I recall seeing a good number of people online experienced the same thing. This honestly could be a false memory though as this was 7 years ago. I also remember having a lot of teammate disconnects before or during matches, but I'm pretty sure that was how every Splatfest was in Splatoon 1.
I'm Australian. I remember being surprised when I noticed that we got the NA Splatfests. I didn't play Splatoon 1 but Australia usually gets lumped with Europe so I expected to get that but we got NA instead. Australia has gotten the European English localisations like getting Mario&Luigi Dream Team Bros. and Paper Jam Bros. NA doesn't have the Bros. in their M&L names. Also for the Splatoon 3 Splatfest World Premier, the 4 regions were The Americas, Europe, Japan and then Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong & South Korea as one region meaning we're getting different Splatfests for the third time. I randomly read on the Splatoon wiki that Australia is going to be lumped with The Americas for the actual Splatoon 3 but we'll see when the game comes out. Australia and the others being put together makes sense to me for at least time zone reasons.
Aus only joined HK for the test fest. In the full game, you’ll be joining NA again.

Oh yeah, about the “inklings don’t have tongues” thing, this was sorta retconned because Frye shows her tongue in the story mode, thought I’d mention that.

WOW, I can’t believe my experience with the Burger vs Pizza Splatfest actually got a part in this video. That’s crazy, thank you so much!!! I forgot to mention this in my original comment but there’s a possibility that it was actually a VS self battle with both teams being team Pizza (minus my team Burger teammate of course), but this happened so long ago I honestly can’t say for sure what type of battle it was. This has nothing to do with the glitch honestly but we played on Moray Towers lol. Once again, TYSM for the feature!
(Also I can’t wait for more Splatoon 3 Splatfests so there can be another iceberg for you to cover… even though it’ll certainly be a while away. Your thoroughness with these iceberg videos is incredible so you should definitely do more in the future!!!)
1051 for Japan does seem weird. The Splatoon 2 Splatfest World Premier could be considered 1050. But that doesn’t make much sense if mayo vs. ketchup is x050 for other regions
WAIT I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THE MARIO COIN WAS IN AUSTRALIA?? During the lead up to that fest I searched literally everywhere to find if Australia was included and saw many people saying that it was only Japan and America.. That's no fair, I so would've signed up and grinded.. :/
12:15, i've sorta figured what actually happens, taking an image of both animations, overlaying them, showed me that the "Turf war, ink the most turf to win!" Text is smaller in the global splatfests, and the 10x animation is also kind of smaller, but due to the turf war text being smaller I think thats why it clips in. Anyways, loved watching this video. Good job

Ok so this doesn’t really matter but as someone who’s a bit of a Splatoon lore nut I thought I’d point this out. There’s actually no official confirmation that octolings were brainwashed/hypnotized like you said. That’s just a popular fan theory that gets passed around as fact. There’s even some counter-evidence towards it, but like I said it doesn’t *really* matter so I’m not gonna write an essay lol just thought I’d point it out. Great video though 👍!

@@Xolnyxia yeah they’re definitely inundated with octarian propaganda and stuff which is why we didn’t see as many deserters until Splatoon 2, but that doesn’t necessarily equal brainwashing even though it’s technically a possibility.
@@zacqonos sanitization is a little tricky since we never get an in depth explanation, but basically it’s tartar blending up the people who pass his tests and distilling their dna into the sanitized ink. It can take over someone’s mind but it’s not specifically “brainwashing” in the typical sense. It’s unknown how much of individuality their is or sentience of the ink itself to my knowledge.
My apologies for the 'Marina is Hypnotized' error! I think back when I made that comment, I had just accepted that fan theory as fact and hadn't known there wasn't any real proof. I think the most likely explanation to the Octolings' "hypnosis" is a mix between growing up around lots of anti-inkling propaganda/growing up in a militaristic environment, and Octolings' general rule-following and orderly personalities, both of which have proof behind them in the form of sunken scrolls and hidden articles locked behind language barriers. Hope this helped to clear up any confusion!

Do we know what the emergency maintenance during the Splatfest was for? Clearly it was bad, so I’m asking anyone who knows anything about it.
Wish I knew. I know one time they had to do an emergency patch or something like that because some class of the dualies was extremely busted after an update. Probably had nothing to do with this one though.
The only information I could find on it was the statement from Nintendo was from their website at the time (someone had taken a screenshot) which just says "Due to emergency maintenance, Online services are unavailable."
Considering that it was apparently so serious that it couldn't wait until after the Splatfest, I'm guessing it was probably some kind of hardware issue. Some physical component of the server breaking that had to be fixed immediately. Definitely not something you see very often.
Also, apparently Spicy vs Sweet vs Sour in splatoon 3 also had emergency maintenance?

I'm very grateful of you that I was able to contribute to some of the things in this video. I think it's nice for people to know what goes on down under since we Aussies don't get alot of attention outside of folk like Latias.
Great video from you, though I will say that last bit of trivia at the end (the server maintenance) did leave a bit of a sour taste in my mouth, but whatever.

Interestingly enough, I remember the 48h Splatfest thing being mentioned in the direct. I’m surprised so many people appear to be surprised about it even after watching the direct.
a fun fact: The UK version of the September 2022 nintendo direct (September 13th, also when Gear vs Grub vs Fun was announced) was NOT livestreamed, simply because it aired during the mourning period, around the time Queen Elizabeth died.

"catch and release'" was probably a refrence to off the hook themselves. their catchphrase is "dont get cooked, stay off the hook" and it probably relates to being caught on the hook, but then getting released. (this might also relate to marina's backstory or whatever, being caught on the hook (octoling society) and then being relased after her exposure to the calamari inkantation.) i dont know heh
Considering the fact that Splatoon has had collabs with a ton of other non-Nintendo things and the fact we have three teams for Splatfests, I can see a Sonic vs Tails vs Knuckles Splatfest being plausible. Shiver would probably be on Team Sonic, Frye would probably be on Team Tails, leaving Big Man on Team Knuckles.

i actually experienced the matchmaking glitch during the Splatoon 3 testfire splatfest. i was on team rock and for one match i got put onto team scissors, at the time i was extremely confused, and my "team" ended up losing that round

It’s because ping times between Aus and NA are better than between Aus and EU. A lot of Aus players in Splatoon 1 had trouble staying in lobbies during Splatfest.

I think you’d have to wait until we’re sure there are not going to be any more Splatoon 3 Splatfests in like five years before making one for Splatoon 3. Or you could make multiple volumes for Splatoon 3 Splatfests as the years go by.
Yeah it's gonna be a long time before that happens. Considering Splatoon 2's splatfests lasted for a total of almost 4 years.

The Demo Splatfest (Rock vs Paper vs Scissors) is coming back as Shiver vs Frye vs Big Man (for Splatoon 3)
This is the first Splatfest to use Demo Splatfest colors for a rematch, since Splatfest 2 never did this for any Splatfest (and it's why Cake vs Ice Cream/Rock vs Pop never got a rematch in the full game)
This means, we can finally use these colors when Splatfest Private Battles make a return in Splatoon 3
I hope Splatfest Private Battles can let us choose Custom Colors to make Custom Splatfests, that would be pretty fun

Honestly, it's very weird that Australia got US splatfests, the EU splatfests stuff makes sense since Australia has always been a PAL region, even though it obviously isn't part of Europe.
Kind of funny that an Animal Crossing speedrunners (think you might of speedrunned Splatoon as well) most popular video is on Splatoon, guess it makes sense I suppose.
