I met him once, he had to be pulled out of an interview to come meet me, I was insanely nervous talking out of my ass but he really couldn't have been nicer and also was very encouraging when I told him he was my biggest inspiration as a drummer. Apparently Maynard isn't as nice to fans so we decided not to bother him lol

In all of the hundreds of concerts Tool has played in, this has to happen more often than not. Same with a guitar string snapping. Techs are the unsung heroes of bands. The band knows their worth, but many fans don’t realize how critical they are.
Bad Ronald is right. It was smelted down from bell brass cymbals & casted into a snare drum. I heard it was closer to 50lbs. He had an entire kit made. I bet the roadies & tech are happy as hell he’s not lugging that beast around on tour anymore. If a snare weighs 50lbs how much do the kick drums weigh?!
That's what he wanted, you can see him looking back like, "heeey buddy! A little help over here!?" Lol. Both handled like complete and total pros, we really shouldn't be surprised. Danny's the greatest living drummer I'd say without question.

It’s one thing to keep playing the drums while someone changes one out, but to play those off beat time signatures without missing a beat is something else!
That's like pushing your long sleeve shirt sleeves up to do dishes, then sticking your hands and arms in the soapy water, forgetting that you didn't take the dish cloth out of the drawer to do the dishes with and then all of a sudden someone in the house sees your hands and arms submerged in soapy water and tosses the dish cloth in, without you even having to take your hands and arms out of the soapy water! RAWK! 🤘
Most drummers would struggle big time with no snare for even a few bars. Danny Carey genuinely doesn't even need a snare to sound this great . He's so good at tearing it up around the WHOLE kit and using his other "tools" (get it) to weave these intricate rhythms into their already complex songs. If anyone can keep playing The Grudge with no snare, it's this man!
@@bowlofnuggets he doesn't he was playing rim shots on his roto drum making it sound like a snare...he gets other snare sounds from his electric pads but he has different settings for different songs n I guess he doesn't have a snare sound on the grudge it's all tribal toms

The thing that was most challenging for him was getting out of the way of the drum-tech. He had no worries about his playing. Guy is an outstanding drummer!
Snare drums have a wire that rattles to give it its distinct sound. you can snap a handle to make it tight so it doesnt do it anymore, and it sounds almost like a tom-tom. one of those things broke so the snare didnt POP like everyone likes.
What went wrong with the first one? Sounds pretty dull, did his snare wires come loose or something like that? But how good are both these absolute PRO musicians! The drum tech swapped out that snare MID-SONG and at one of the busiest parts of the track too! He did it whilst not getting in the way of Danny, got the snare out from between his legs and got that new one in there so smooth it couldnt have been executed better IMO! And then theres DC! He barely missed a single beat the whole time and he kept time almost perfectly (given the circumstances) throughout using the rest of his kit expertly. He's very fortunate to have such an array of rack tom, mandala pads, that toilet seat electronic pad he still uses to this day. I'm just glad they hired a competent drum tech who knew his responsibilities and could meet the demands of a drummer. That's part of his job, do what is necessary to keep the man playing, without being told to do so. ✌️☮️
