This is good news for the community and shows what The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is all about. Spreading the gospel by doing good. ❤

This is really good! We are working and giving away the materials that God provided for us in a caring and organized way. The recipients are appreciative and truly happy to share what they are given. A golden opportunity to share God’s love for all His children.

What a beautiful way to bring people together. I’m so thankful to all involved for repurposing the usable materials here. The financial windfall for the organizations is good. Relieving the burden on the earth to dispose of the perfectly good items is fantastic. Well done.

I was serving as a missionary in the Brayton Ward when the chapel caught fire in '07. Pres. Lewis and all of the Anchorage Zone helped clean up the rubble. It was inspiring to see how the non-LDS community expressed condolences, and offered resources. BYU released a mini-doc on TH-cam ("Melting the Ice"), detailing that tragedy-turned-victory. It's great that the Church found a way to return the favor! 🤟🏻🕊️

I'm amazed again at how something that may seem insignificant to one (by letting go of some used materials) can be such a tremendous blessing to a community in need. ❤❤❤

As an Alaskan I appreciate this act of community the Church is doing, as a member of the Church I am also grateful to see this. I agree it is an act of kindness that the Savior approves of.

I remember this building well. After my marriage we had a family lunch there. So glad it's living on in new ways and blessing others.

I know Kevin Parks!! He's a great guy. I've been to the Brayton building 🏫. It will be missed. Plus, I was sealed in The Anchorage Temple, which is in the parking lot. I have wonderful memories from AK.

I'm grateful that our little Ellijay Branch in Ellijay GA just became our own Ward last month! Now, onto becoming a Stake and have a Temple! When I moved here from Augusta, GA, we grew into our own Stake Center! Northern Georgia is growing and that makes me happy as a duck on a june bug! Thanks be given for all those faithful saints who are working so hard to assist others. What a blessing!!!

I attended church in that chapel multiple times when I lived in Anchorage. What a wonderful way to repurpose and lift other faiths and organizations. ❤ I also remember sitting in that chapel during the dedication of the new temple. What a wonderful memory! When President Hinckley walked in all dressed in white, and spoke to us, the Spirit of God filled the room. I pray the people who are benefiting from this effort will be blessed in more ways than they can count.

This is wonderful and about time the church recycled and reuse materials instead of throwing them away. In glad the leaders were promoted to give back to the community and I'm sure blessing of oneness will come to this place.

My hope is that this sets the example for other churches and communities. If one of our LDS communities are in need, that instead of not being kind to the saints, the other faiths and communities would recognize that our saints may need help too someday. Just setting the example. Part of me would feel saddened if it was my church building because i hold onto my past; but i can appreciate that the spirit would be there to bring peace regardless.

I am proud to see the community coming together like
    This.
I wish more businesses were able to do this but they don’t as they are “for profit” and throwing it away is in my opinion less of a liability as people will “sue” if “they”, get hurt by an item donated to them that “they” have installed or used wrong 😑, so it is business expense to throw them away and take the loss so that, “nothing” remains attached.
Yet, when there are those willing to share it is wonderful to see.

In the mid 80's, President Hinckley came to Alaska and we took him, Sister Hinckley, and Elder and Sister Tuttle on a fishing trip on our boats. I asked President Hinckley why the church didn't build smaller temples in areas where there were fewer members; that we didn't need the cafeteria, etc. It was no surprise to me when Anchorage was announced as one of the first areas to have a smaller temple built, and I jokingly tell people they have me to thank for the Anchorage Alaska Temple...(one never knows from where inspiration might come!) I also told the first temple president (5 months before he was called) that he would be a GREAT temple president. What will happen with the materials of the current temple? May I have one of the windows?
Can I get a brick off the Brayton Chapel?

I grew up attending in this chapel, spent many hours as a child staring at the stone wall completely zoned out during Sacrament lol. I was in high school when the fire happened, and was really grateful for the support we got from the community to get through that time. I'm glad to see that now that it's time for it to go, it's being given back to the community in turn ❤🥲
