    In this video I explain some techniques used to calculate values of designer gold jewelry for buying at auctions. You will need to use scrap gold calculators available online as well as some simple math. If a piece scraps at $2900 and the auction charges a 25% buyers premium, you can back the price out by doing 2900 x .75 = $2175. This will give you a basis to determine your final bids. This will help you understand the amount of risk associated with buying the piece should you go well over the base gold value. More tips and examples explained in the video.

    The frog is not a brooch. It is a fur clip. The double prongs on the back are the give away. The double of the fur clip are strong enough to pierce the material of a fur and then snap closed into place.

    Hi Logan. How did you do on the frog brooch? I hope that it has sold by now. I hope that the auction house treated you well with the ring return. I found a bunch of silver at a church rummage sale last week. I spent $12 on them. So shocking. The biggest bowl was marked sterling and it was $5. Looking forward to seeing what you find next.

      I ended up scrapping most of the big gold. I tried selling for a while and I think the gold price moved up around that time and I had to cash out. Sold a few of the rings via a 3rd party private deal. I've learned to just move the big pieces quick and take a couple 100 profit. It's not worth tying up too much money for too long. Congrats on your finds. I'm pretty numb to getting scores these days lol. I'm chasing the big one.

    How do you find reputable auctions?

      You can find them online. After that is mostly experience, buy one item from an auction at a good deal and see how it goes. If they deliver and have good service, just note them down for the future.

    Do you take all the risk for buying jewelry wrongly identified?

    • @ThriftHunter
      @ThriftHunter  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It always depends on the situation but not really. In most cases it is on the seller to accurately represent the items. Most of the time as long as I provide concrete proof like an XRF test result, I am able to resolve the issue with the seller. I also take many steps to minimize my risk, like giving myself enough margin to absorb most issues. Thanks
