    Somebody informed me that some of the gunwriters and such are referring to this new blued Python as the "2024 Python." I could not confirm that anywhere on the Colt site.
    Surely, every finish on the same firearm is not going to get a new model name???? How weird would THAT be. Sorry if I'm not in sync with the rest of the world, but to ME it will always be a "2020 Python" with a Blue finish. If they offer it with Cerekote finishes or in nickel finish, it will still be a "2020 Python" with a different finish. Now if they change the design of the action or something, that's a different story.

      Interestingly they restarted the serial number range. All the stainless guns start with PY and then count up. The blue one is PB and counting up again from 1.

    • @576103
      @576103 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The fact it has a different serial number range suggests further that Colt is treating it like a different model (although I admit to a lack of expertise and don’t know how they numbered the original stainless guns as compared to the original blued guns-did they have a separate serial number sequence also?)

    Nice that Colt (CZ owned) had decided to make the new Python not just in stainless steel, but now in blued carbon steel. Stainless makes for a firearm that requires less anti-corrosion maintenance, but there is something special about a well polished and deeply blued firearm.

    He hit the nail on the head. The original python was made on 50s tooling, had hours of hand fitting by trained and expensive humans. If you want such a gun today- ok fine. expect $5k and a long wait list. See the MR73 for reference. Todays machining is and production methods are to the point that we can get 95% of there for $1500. All new products have teething trouble. My python is from 2022- zero issues. I have the feeling the people who dog the new guns are old farts who want a 1975 python at less than $1k and "it aint like it was blah blah". As an older fart myself, there is nothing I hate more than people who complain that "it isn't what it used to be"...well not all things can be or are necessarily worse.

I was thrilled when I heard there would be a new production line of them in 2020 but man, the price was just a bit above what I could easily do and then they were gone so fast I didn't realized I had blinked. I love the blued version, it looks great.

    These guns shine in double action as they come stock. The 2020 pythons have a small ridge on the sear that was built in to make them drop safe. If you watch really closely when pulling in single action, the hammer actually moves a little bit backwards before being released.

    I hoped Colt would be able to bring back the blued Pythons. I'm thrilled at the result - they look fantastic compared to the originals, and their timing should hold up better over time. My only big complaint is that they added an additional vent on top of the barrel on the 4.25" model. It makes the gun look too crowded and more like an older Taurus than an actual Python. Not sure what Colt was thinking when they changed a highly anticipated legacy design randomly, especially since the 4.25" stainless models retain the standard 2-vent setup and look great.
    Deer Hollow makes excellent reproduction grips that are closer to the originals, thicker, and better looking than the laminate ones that come on the new guns too IMO. And hey, at least that silly QR code is better than the ugly S&W internal lock and the J/K frame reshape that came with it! And as always, thanks for the excellent wheelgun content.

      @@toddschutter6535 On the stainless models, yes. But the only barrel lengths presently announced for the new blued models are 6" and 4.25". The 6" has the proper 3-vent setup, but they added a vent to make three on the 4.25", which usually only had two. The stainless guns still have the proper setup, which makes it even more strange that Colt would change things for the blued ones.

    My first time with a Python was in 1976, when a fellow 2nd Lieutenant and former LEO let me shoot his. I had the lowly Ruger Super Blackhawk .357 Magnum with a 6-1/5” barrel. The Python was very smooth. We would shoot out in the desert at old ammo cans full of water. My take away from that brief time with his Python was the harshness of the checkered grips. Brutal, combined with the .357 jolt. But a prettier revolver was never made. I have so many semi-autos but will have to set aside some dineros some day for a blue six incher

    Never liked SS guns of any make but I realized how hard it would be to get the polish of the original Python to make em blue a bad blue job would kill the Python! Was glad to see that they did get a more than decent polish on em.. course they are $100 more than the SS version. My 1969 Python has a look that... I doubt could be commercially done these days. But the new one looks way better than other stuff out there..

    I would love to know what best removes the cylinder burn marks on a blued python without removing or harming the finish? I use a lead removal cloth on my stainless revolvers, but I won't use it on my new Python as I fear it may harm the finish on this beautiful snake gun. Love your opinion(s).

    I saw the writing on the wall a couple years ago. Sold my 1979 Blued Colt Python for a premium, then turned around and bought a 2020 Stainless Python. (I love shooting my guns). I don't know if I could get the same price for my old python as I could today (Probably less). I'd rather have a gun I can shoot and get parts for (My old python would have to go to a good gunsmith if anything was wrong as everything was hand fit).
