My main struggle is overexpanding. I get a little bit of money in the bank and go off and start planning and building too much stuff and it's not sustainable and the cost of building that stuff cripples my economy. Then that drags my approval down and I get my ass handed to me at the polls.

wood industry is very bad overall, it creates pollution, bad relations later on with environmentalists, the trade prices are bad,etc. farms are okay but it sends you toward communism. for a good trading economy you need to have high relations with everyone so they offer you good trades. i liked axis better than allies, but still you need to keep good relations with other side, they tend to compete with each other so sometimes you need to sell meat or pineapple just to dont screw up the relations. each foreign country has their own preference. axis/Russians like communism, steal, rum, cars later on. allies/usa likes oil, meat, cash crops, electronics, capitalism, eu likes furniture, fruits, high single houses, pubs , middle east likes chocolate, good tourism , high cost entertainment. china likes if you accept emigrants, they like to sell food, very cheap materials, back them up against foreign powers. you need to increase foreign relations with china until they give you a nice offer, then it doesnt matter cause the contract goes on even if you piss them on. trade contracts are tricky. its not a good idea to sell raw materials, try to sell processed materials. if you need for quest go on, do it, but then switch it back to something you need. sell processed materials like steal or rum, never sell fish or pineapples if you dont need the relationship points. swinging between china and usa is good, you can get a very low import price with china, then increase usa relations and sell them directly. best profits are when you simply buy and sell the same thing on different prices. the other thing is high salaries, seems counter intuitive but having high wages, and high entertainment costs are better in the long run than paying low salaries and giving minimum fun value. citizens pay maximally 1/3 of salary on housing, married couple 1/3 of combined salary (tropico 4 was simple, salary should be 3, 6, 9 , 12, etc) also high entertainment increases chances of meeting the other gender, so they get married faster, you spare on housing, its a lot of micromanagement but you need mansions based on college educated couples, houses based on high school/mixed couples, apartments based on single persons. housing and entertainment revenues should cover the edicts and other costs, industry should cover the building costs and some profit. tourism is a long term solution, where you use the extra spaces of entertainment slots. the other things are placements of housing, beautiful areas separated by education and factions. better housing increases number of children, better jobs increase the need for education, better homes and jobs. so quality over quantity. each era has new industry. you can make profits from farming but at the new era you need to switch over better industries and demolish the old ones if needed. and try to keep an emergency fund of at least 10000. and never ever take out loans, dont print money, only in special cases of making a profitable industry and pay it back before end of the year so relations wont get hurt. the cost of regaining high relations are higher than the profit gained by careless spending.all good offers come from high relations so try to befriend anyone who has no good trading offer and then you can go against them

If some of you don´t know a good and cheap starting way (for dumbasses) then there´s a way that I did: Colonial Era: 0. Buy the trade license to increase Revolutionary support (it doesn´t say it but it allows you to trade with pirates who work with revolutionaries) 1. Build one Sugar and one Tobacco plantation. 2. Try to fulfill every royal task and request only the money (or the prolonged mandate if it´s ending in 1 year) 3. Try to fulfill every revolutionary task and request educated immigrants (these would help you with getting managers) 3.25 Never build a library before the "Technological advantages" task comes in. 3.5 Build few more docs if you have enough money to unlock more trade routes and increase the profit. 3.75 Never build a catholic mission before the new dynasty member baby task or something comes in. In that case you should choose the "Arrange quick wedding" or how is it called and then build the catholic mission. 4. Don´t declare independence until you´ll research everything or if your mandate is ending. 5. Before declaring independence try to have 10,000 - 20,000 money so you could build new buildings. 6. Declare independence the * buying * way by paying 10,000 World Wars: 1. Try not to update every home. (that thing once bankrupted me) 2. Doesn´t matter if you ally the Allies or Axis. Allies want more food and plantation things. The Axis wants more Ores and food too. (I allied Allies but as the first trade task I made Axis pay 20% more for coal) 3. Build a few military buildings. I suggest 3 Barracks, 1-2 Military bases and upgrade your elite troops in the palace into commandos. (You need those buildings and upgrades to progress into another era and to stop rebellions) 4. Build the Power plant, High school and College. Power plant creates electricity from coal and gas. High school and College allows everyone to study and to fit into more working positions. 5. Use those earned 10,000 to buy Cigar factory or Rum distillery (I suggest Cigar factory because that doesn´t need electricity) 6. For the negotiations send one member of your dynasty. Never send Pablito or how is the guy called. (he failed and I got invaded again) These things should help you start a bit. I didn´t put Cold War or Modern Era tips here because I completely destroyed my economy by buying a lot of new military buildings and because of electricity shortage I bankrupted.

What island is that? I'm on ps4 and can't find it. I would also like to know in your opinion what is the best island for having an abundance or should I say a good means to make money (like good farmland and good deposits) but also a lot of room for building a beautiful city. Because if I do custom map and put rich or abundant resources then its put in areas for good farmland that puts holes in the farms and is right in the middle of my towns and settlements which looks and feels terrible
+Jonathan Laig the issue I've faced with that is two things, they make a lot of pollution which decreases housing quality in the area and as far trade wise they don't always have the best deal. Though to be honest I've never focused on them much for making money
they do worth a lot of money, because its not a raw material, also is part of the car making process but usually you run out of iron or coal s you need to import it

I been playing 6 and just got 5, I like it so far but man docks so so much more confusing, I dont understand the whole 1 ship or 2 per dock thing and how to change import/export much at all yet so confusing.
Usually every game i play ends due to traffic jams killing my economy. Its been like that for every tropico, and every new release they don't add better options.
I have a problem with the input of goods from plantation & farms, for example, I built a Cannery industry & i built two corn plantations besides it to ensure the ranch in between have good amount of corn to get good amount of output of meat to be use for the Cannery, but the ranch shows 0 corn input & can’t produce meat. I need help man, i even build multiple teamsters building
Hmm okay few things, 1. Are you talking about regular ranch or factory ranch? If regular ranch then you dont need corn for it. 2. Is the ranch build in a good spot for cattle? Make sure the grid is green. 3. Even though they are next to each other, Tropico 5 system of transportation sucks, so make sure you have enough teamsters. Also in the edicts make sure you have argiculture subsidies enabled that helps with it. I’ve gotten up to the millions but only a couple times. It was due to my own entertainment and commerce and shit not even exports. By the time I did all that I was exporting some things but them opera houses were goin crazy Edit: I’m now seeing he has 3,500 people holy shit. I had that much with like 500-600. I’m not sure if that’s less or more impressive
What's your likability amongst the population? Because his seems REALLY stable. After all you can have an area that makes insane amounts of money yet the quality of life for the majority of the population is horrible, see California.
Mine started bad but ita pretty easy to get the hag of. Especially coming to it it after attempting a harder more conplex game that was just too much. This one is fairly causual
hard to tell exactly what you are talking about without seeing a screenshot, BUT consturction is jsut basically when you build something it shows up in expenses for a little bit of time.
Plantations and farms don't become as effective as times goes on. Make sure you issue the agriculture subsidies eddict and also start looking for suitable areas to replace the ranches and farms

It depends, I showed about 3 islands of mine on my channel, first was regular, and disasters I always put to rare because they make no sense sometimes, the last Tropico 5 series I did on my channel everything was MAX including politics and economy.
I have a lot of corn farming, but when I build factory farms always just do not produce because shows 0 corn input honestly I do not understand the function of teamster so I put it in any location i need help!!!! sorry my english is bad because i use google translation.

im using regular corn farm and my corn production is at most compared to the others because i build 8 regular corn farm,But when I build more than 10 factory farms, some of which can not produce.

How’d you get your foreign relations so high? Most times I try to keep others happy the others get pissed

You can go planks and logs like forever it makes a lot of money too. and if your Island has Iron and coal at the same time make steel

Turn off the option to allow local consumption. Then the corn will go directly to factories or to export dock.

if you have the waterborne DLC place those pearl collecters. ( also have 2 sugar and cocao farms. ( if you can place green cacao farms )

It depends, I showed about 3 islands of mine on my channel, first was regular, and disasters I always put to rare because they make no sense sometimes, the last Tropico 5 series I did on my channel everything was MAX including politics and economy.

+Mullurice you can now increase it, it's in the options menu before you start the game, just make it's updated to the latest version and that your computer can handle it.
Highest cap is 10 000. BUT 2000 is the default for pcs that cant handle more.
aren't you playing on the XBOX? how do you increase the cap over 2000 on that platform?

Jerutastic it took me a while to get use to the control instead of a mouse but its a fun game once you figure how to get your economy going. I just cant figure out how to make my grocery store clinics and fishing wharfs to make a profit. Those 3 are always making me lose money
