- New rim brake wheel sets are getting harder to come by in 2024. As nearly all new road bikes adopt disc brakes the options available for rim brake riders are becoming ever more scarce. So, Sam Gupta has rounded up 5 of the best rim brake wheel sets that he would recommend you check out if you're in the market for a set of new wheels in 2024.

rim brakes for the win in 2024 ❤
I have a pair of Winspace Hypers on my rim brake Tarmac SL6, fantastic wheelset, and still available to buy!
Fulcrum Racing Zero's, they look really good for an aluminium wheel too.
I did well recently on a second hand set of Fast Forward carbon rim brake wheels for about £250 rather than £1000. But I have also bought a 2nd hand wheel only to discover that one of the spokes had pulled out of the (aluminium) rim, so bargains to be had, but beware and check everything that you can.
Also, if you are buying carbon rims for the first time then get good carbon specific brake pads. Swiss Stop yellow are an excellent start point.
Roads around Switzerland Austria and german are nearly perfect. There are also tons of nice days. So rim is fine
The Disk is just over complicating and adding weight.
Awesome vid love rim brakes.. I ride Campagnolo, zonda, shamals and bora ultra 😊❤ Pete
Very happy with the Hunt wheels I put on a custom build.
Now this is great content!
Some of my favorite wheels are Campagnolo Khamsin, which I had for about 20000km on my Planet X Pro Carbon. Didn't have to touch them a single time and they still span as freely and as straight as in the day of purchase. Then, unfortunately, a car pulled right in front of me from a stop sign and at about 45kph I crashed with them effectively into a wall - the fork was literally in three pieces, the frame was cracked in probably four spots, and the front wheel was unfortunately also bent heavily, but about three turns with a spoke wretch were enough to straighten the rear wheel enough to be still used on my no-cost commuter.
Thank you, Sam Gupta!
Trying to decide between Bora WTO 45 and DT Swiss ARC1100 48. I ride in flat-ish terrains with some short climbs. Any recommendation? I am leaning towards the DT Swiss because of perceived aero advantage (but no clue whether this is true) and because of the look, but I understand that Bora have better braking performance and are slightly lighter. Any advice?
I bought a set of DT Swiss Oxic 1400 wheels. The rims are coated with a ceramic material and I’ll tell these wheels have grip in the wet weather. These things stop you like dixx so c brakes.
i'm about to buy remerx rtx tubular rims (i was waiting for them since 2022 november) for my commuter and one of my road bikes from the early 00s.
the front wheel of the commuter will have a shimano deore m510 hub and either sapim or dt butted spokes. it won't be lightweight but very reliable. i don't want to ruin my gp4 rim and early production mavic hub anymore.
Not sure that's right. I had a pair of nearly new Wolber TX profil rims on Campag Record hubs. They had Swiss DT eliptical spokes. The year; 1989. PS.. bought my first copy of Cycling Weekly in 1987. Back on the bike after near 25 year lay off.
I will never change to disk brakes, my rim brakes shimano 105,, work great, easy to maintain and cheap, dontt need some bike maker telling me what i neees
Custom wheels I built myself only.
What model is that sworks bicycle?
Rim brake are best imo. Check my techincal downhill on a mountain pass. Mavic ksyrium s able to hold 95kg rider like me topping at 70kph.
Ask for a ruler on the brake track picture of each used wheel, so you can see if they are worn out and you shouldn't buy them.
That doesn't always work
you forgot and worth mentioning ZIPP wheels. ZIPP still makes rim brakes wheelsets like 303 and 404.
Deja-vu upload.
Still looking like a Pokémon with that plant.
Any thoughts on hed ardennes blk ?
I have the Hed wheels , I'm happy with them. Sturdy, no problems at all. Stay true and roll nice enough for me. 25' s blow up to 28's easily using both Vittoria rubino and conti 500's.
I brought the hunt alloy rim wheels, Two way fit which they just come in. I just wanted to use them in clincher mode not tubeless. Anyway I could not for the life of me get a clincher tyre onto the Hunt wheels. I tried and tried. I gave up and throw the wheels in the biffa bin. Nightmare wheels.
wasn't this uploaded a few days ago!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Love it
Spinergy Zaero ..&..Yeolio
3:09 Spell Xyrium, not K-syrium
Don’t bother with Mavic. They’re proprietary spokes and nipples make servicing their wheels near impossible. At least here in Australia. I have two Mavic wheel sets, both with corroding nipples and spokes yet bikes shops cannot get spare parts for them.
It’s a real shame as they ride beautifully
Not all mavics are the same. I have many mavic rims with normal spokes and nipples.
Tubulars are still the best option
Rim rim rim rim rimmmmmmmm. Spinergy Xaero
I just got hit by a car and smashed my zipp 404 firecrest so i may have to get some
"Can still buy." You can still buy tubular wheels, 27 x 1 3/4 wheels. Even Penny Farthing wheels. Stop it.
