I personally think true mortal kombat is until Armageddon. ThTh we games are pretty but there are many inconsistencies in the story, the chapter system is crap, shao kahn is just a strong dumb guy and Quan chi is tested like a giant genius and master mind that he never was in the 1st place. They finished mk9 with room for great ideas but they did nothing with it. AND THEY HAVE THE AUDACITY TO SAY SINDEL WAS ALWAYS EVIL??? FUCK'EM!!!

Sure, the newer games are beautiful and epic, but this game was probably the last of the true Mortal Kombat feel.

I don't know about it being a High Definition version of MK4 but I do know that with how bad MK4 was MK: Gold is definitely the better version
MK Gold is the Sega dreamcast port of MK 4, it adds a few characters like Kung Lao who weren't playable in MK4 and is the canonical version. Basically same thing as MK3 to UMK3
MK Gold is basically what MK4 should have been.

Those endings are so... So bad... Bad, not because bad acting and shitty 3D. But because endings are terrible written.
1. Baraka. He joins to Shinnok and Quan-Chi to defeat Earthrealm's defenders. In the end, he betrayed and killed Shinnok, only to realize that he's gonna be alone... And then get killed by Quan-Chi. It's so lame! Like, they didn't know what to do with him.
2. Sektor and Cyrax endings are pretty same, only in one case, Sektor come out from nowhere and then kill fking everyone. And in second case, Cyrax become human once again.... I think so, at least.
3. Jax, Jarek, and Sonya endings are same. They're familiar and... Jax and Jarek endings looks like, they cut out Jarek ending and add a little to Jax, not explaining where did he come from.
4. Johnny Cage ending is... odd. It's not bad, I got this joke, but... For someone, who leaved Heaven, so he can help his friends, Johnny looks like an asshole. "Yeah, I helped my friends to defeat mad fallen god, but... Yeah, where's my oscar!?". I think, they didn't know what to do with Cage either.
5. I think, Kai's ending has actually a lot of potential. Kai helped defeat Shinnok, but now he realize that being shaolin warrior is not what he thought would be. He decided to begin his new journey, find his right path. I like it! Just... Script makes him says stupid things.
6. Kitana and Mileena endings are same. It's one ending they split on two. But I want to talk about something different... Kitana is an asshole to her "sister". I mean, yeah, she's not real Edenian, like Kitana or Jade, but... Damn! Don't be so harsh to her! At least, Mileena trying to be polite and... I dunno... Am I the only one, who feels sorry for Mileena?
7. Kung Lao's ending is... Okay, I guess. But problem in script. Kung Lao could've challenge Goro to Mortal Kombat, Goro would agree and they begin their fight. Kung Lao defeats him and spare his life, saying that he avenged for his great antecessor. Goro then says that Great Kung Lao was a great warrior and it's honor to fight with his descendentem. But instead, Kung Lao is like... "Ha! I gave you this scar on your chest!" "Why?" "So I could avenge for my antecessor!" "Oh, okay. Nice job, mate!" "Peace?" "Peace." - that's it! It's so lame and funny!
8. Liu Kang's ending is pretty good. I think, it's good ending for their arc. I just think they should've make dialogue between Kitana and Liu more... Alive.
9. Despite the fact, I don't like Quan-Chi, I think his ending is actually pretty good one. He outsmart fallen god Shinnok and killed him, using HIS amulet. It's really nice one! But... If Shinnok was outsmarted by him, then he's' actually pretty stupid.
10. Raiden and Fujin endings, I find interesting and pretty good. I like how these two endings close Raiden's journey and begin Fujin's one. Of course, after Deadly Alliance, they all forgot about it. Which is shame, to me, because I think it has interesting potential.
11. Reiko's ending is pointless. Some weird dude walk through portal, sit on throne and then put Shao Kahn helmet on his face. That's all! What was the point of it?! When I saw this ending, I thought he's a survived Shao Kahn or some new threat in next game (that's why he put helmet on his face, it's shows us that he's a new villain), but nope. He's just some random dude. More funnier this ending in N64 version, where he just come through portal and that's all ending. Again, I feel like they didn't know what to do with this guy.
12. Reptile's ending is kinda sad and stupid. He helped villains defeat good guys and all he ask is return his race back. But instead he was killed. Why? It makes no sense!
13. Scorpion and Sub-Zero endings are same. Endings is okay. Nothing special in here, except the fact that Quan-Chi is an stupid asshole. He literally said "You though Sub-Zero was murder of your clan. But all of time, it was... ME!!! QUAN-CHI ALL ALONG!!!". Yeah, he just told Scorpion that he killed his clan! Genius!
14. Shinnok ending is okay, I guess. It's not bad, not good, it's just.... Exist. i guess, I just like how this goofy dialogue and Shinnok's voice actor.
15. Tanya's ending is actually I really enjoyed. When I first played Tanya, I thought she's a good guy, but then I was shocked to find out, that she's working with villains. And I really love it! Also, fk bug lady, because she stole Tanya's personality!

Nah, as far as plot goes most of them were great (including the ones like Raiden passing the torch to Fujin, Liu Kang dying, and Kai getting Raiden's staff that triggered fans so hard they retconned them all in Deadly Alliance),
If these had good graphics, and weren't acted horribly, then most of them would be some of the best, top 10 worthy even.
Though the Johnny Cage ending is 100% the funniest ending in the series, and the Kung Lao ending would've been cool, if the resolution of the Goro vs Kung Lao feud was bullshit.
