Everything you said was spot on. It had lots of potential, great atmosphere, beautiful cinematography, and solid creepiness. But I'm not sure I understood the point of the movie. The ending felt abrupt and anti-climatic, the slow pacing was hard to get through, and just feels like there was more of the movie that was supposed to be there but wasn't.
tend to agree with you that it could've went more places. But, also really enjoyed it. would like to see another film with same creature (or, something similar) heavily expounded upon.- or, even just followed for extended periods of time.
Loved your thoughts mate. You gave a really honest, fair and overall quality reveiw of this movie. I enjoyed the movie but I do agree with pretty much everything you said. I'll be checking more of your vids out.
Yeah man I watched this movie with my kid we really enjoyed it but wish there was more to it and the ending was super anti climatic felt a little flat wish they added more gore with this weird looking creature could have been a cult classic!
Watched this last night. I thought it was OK - maybe 3/5 for me - but there was no explanation given for some things. A little background or exposition on what/why the creature came to see them would have given the move more depth. It clearly had the ability to take the form of whatever it wanted (since it emulated the dog as well), but was it an alien? A Demon? We get nothing there. The other thing that made no sense, sorry but that house was AMAZING. I could get not wanting to keep it after the Dad died (but seriously it was so nice that I think after this debacle they would have found a way to stay there), but if they didn’t keep it they would for sure sell it and cash in on the money, not let it sit there for years and years only for the kid to come back one day for closure purposes. That just seemed highly, highly unlikely. Nonetheless, good acting and beautifully shot, I would personally have just done some things differently.
Thanks for this review. I had to filter and had to search everywhere for reviews. You are one of the very few. Thanks again. I'll be checking it out tonight
When the doctor asked to draw what he saw and they chance screens without showing it I turned that crap off On the other hand right after that I watched Anything for Jackson and it was AMAZING
It was good enough i liked it, keep in mind its a shudder exclusive lol. The creature was unique definitely could of been a better movie but worth the watch.
With a name like Daddy’s Head, I had no idea what to expect. I thought it might be silly or campy. I was pleasantly surprised to find out it was seriously creepy!
@@BananaPrint510 as I mentioned at the start, Shudder sent me an early screener. I’ve had a connection with them for the last few years, so they send me early screeners for their releases. I don’t cover all of them early, but I do cover them often.
Cinematography was excellent. Set design was outstanding. Overall point of the story is always an interesting subject matter as we all experience grief differently and react differently. The ending of the movie leaves a lot to be desired. Overall its a decent experience but for overall basic idea I think the Babadook does it a lot better.
for me was great but yes i think this could have been one of the top movies this year if it reached its full potential.... still i thought it was really good. 7 out of 10.
The movie was just too slow paced. I’m all for a gradual horror film that doesn’t go from 0 to 60 in the first 4 minutes of the movie…. But wow. Also, there were so many cool and eerie build ups only for them to go absolutely nowhere. When the boyfriend saw the dad out in the forest and all you hear is the sound of him running while saying “come on, we need to leave”. Such a weird pace after seeing a human face on that thing. But then, nothing. You just see that he’s in the hospital after bumping his head? Again, many good ideas but they went nowhere.
@@AnthonyAPerezyou nailed it with your review. If this movie wasn’t mainly put forward as a horror movie but a psychological-drama with a side of horror (like Jacob’s Ladder) then maybe they could be excused for being so paltry on the horror. Fleshed out that way you could have your loss-despair drama and then the horror bits could be that element used to make the grief even more manifest… again, like Jacob’s Ladder. But this movie wanted to lead with that element and it came up bankrupt.
No lore behind this movie AT ALL: where did the creature come from & why? why did the dad crash & how? why did it target to torment his gf? what happened to the black guy after the hospital did he survive? why didn’t they reach out to a priest or spiritual person that deals with demons? So many damn holes in this movie 😂 No lore at all. just a scary crawling demon with his pops face.
Just finished watching. Decent acting. Frustrating cliche’d kid was annoying. Nothing was explained. Cool house and setting. No real character building whatsoever. Felt for Laura but ultimately just a let down of a watch.
I agree with you 100%, Anthony. My question is, when they show him as an adult at the end and he walks in that bedroom, was that his stepmother? Was he sleeping with her?
When ppl are this critical of movies it makes me wanna see wat movies they can produce. Ur being overly critical basically expecting perfection. Let’s see your film man you obviously got the credentials
@@djjohnson4114 That’s a silly outlook. I never expect perfection. We all have taste. Everyone has an opinion of any art form the moment they experience. X Files is far better than this trash horror slow burn movie. The movie had potential but director ruined it completely. Seems like Night Shymalan directed it
I loved this movie because it’s an original movie. But in just trying to figure out the story behind why his father’s a head turn into this hideous evil monster? I’m pissed that wasn’t explained. This could’ve been a two hour movie🤦🏽♀️. Still liked it though!!
I’m glad you at least enjoyed it! Yeah, I think the film’s lack of explanation of a lot elements is part of why I didn’t connect with it. It certainly had potential!
This isn’t a monster movie like jeepers creepers or anything like that. I think for people who like these kinds of films would really like this too. It’s marketed wrong. I actually don’t think the monster was actually there. The monster represented the boys grief. The only person who actually really cared and wanted to make a connection with the boy was that lady. “I forget her conection to the family”She could see and feel his pain more than anyone else. She loved him but didn’t know how to help him. It freaked her out, the grief was heavy on her too. Hence the drinking. As well as her mind slowly slipping to the same place as the boy due to the grief. In the end they basically get over it together hence the “monster” going away….i guess I would recommend approaching this like the babadook. It’s an artsy metaphorical situation.

I was wondering the same. It felt a bit ambiguous.
She looked like she hadn't in any way aged, we where thinking was she a shape shifter possibly with a skeleton in the wooden thing in the woods. .
He called her Mom
The trailer was better than the movie
Basically the same movie as the babadook
