Looks very interesting and it’s great to see Hugh Grant in a dark role. I really like the work he’s been doing these past 5 years or so. Also this is not his first foray in a horror film as he was in The Lair of the White Worm. Though, I don’t know if you can officially classify it as a horror as it’s a Ken Russell film and he’s a whole weird genre onto himself. Thanks for your review Chris.
Saw this at tiff last night too and really enjoyed it too. Hugh is great as the antagonist and Sophie Thatcher/Chloe East have great chemistry with him. Really enjoyed the setting, subject matter, suspense and quality scares. But Hugh's ability to continuously switch between scaring you and making you laugh is what's truly impressive about this. He's like a puppeteer pulling our strings.
@@booyakabambata unless the hand of god shows up at the end like in Stephen King’s “The Stand” it can’t be that good of a ending. If the girls live and reject all religions at the end then I’d be impressed.
You mentioned Patrick McGoohan. For me my favourite role by him is as Edward I Longshanks in "Braveheart". For years I didn't recognise him and just thought he looks familiar. Until one day I looked it up and totally did the 🤦 of course!! 😂
Sing Sing is the BEST MOVIE of the year and deserves nominations in most categories. The movie was shot on 16 mm film, in 19 days, with a very small crew. The DP, Pat Scola should be nominated for an Oscar for cinematography because the visual look, the lighting, the film choice, all created the naturalistic atmosphere to tell the story. Accompanied with Bryce Dessner's score that sells the beautiful scenes and intimate facial expressions. And kudos to the director, Greg Kwedar, who allowed dialogue to be ad-libbed at times, which created the emotional essence throughout the film that tugs at your heart. The cast deserves best ensemble because 90% of the cast are the formerly incarcerated men that participated in the RTA theater program while in Sing Sing and that authenticity shines. And what can you say about Coleman Domingo.... he deserves the Oscar this year, his performance is perfectly understated, and he allows the other men to shine because this is their story. Well Done!! Also, Clarence Maclin and Paul Raci both deserve best supporting nominations. Their performances tie the strings that pull the film to its brilliance. Best movie overall in a very long time and well worth the emotional journey.
A quiet place has the most insanely idiotic decision I have ever seen in a movie ever in the first 10 minutes... So I don't have much hope for this movie
You mean the decision where a character makes a mistake? People make mistakes. I know it might be hard for you to believe, since you're so perfect, but the rest of us also make mistakes, sometimes leading to the death of loved ones.
Do Mormon girls do door to door missionary work? I thought only men do that in the Mormon faith. I thought the girls were evangelical by the trailer. Moral of the tale? Run far and fast away from religious beliefs without evidence of truth.
No scientific evidence--without a shadow of a doubt--has ever supported that all religions are false, or that any single religion is true. Therefore, where do you suggest we hide?
As someone who'd only really seen Hugh Grant in romantic movies, I was really impressed with his turn in The Gentlemen. I'm kinda loving this new era where he's not just playing a stuttering flake and actually showcasing more of his talent.
never thought id root for people so arrogant as to come to YOUR home and interrupt your day to tell you implicitly that whatever u believe is wrong. yeah get the fk off my doorstep, i might be rooting for Hugh tbh lol
Hello! / My name is Elder Price / And I would like to share with you / The most amazing book ... Well, well, well ... do come in, Elder Price, and let's talk about ...... JEEZUSS!
What a crazy person I hope more people watch this, lessons learned. A real life boogie man remember people warned us when we were all kids, beware of the boogie man. Noone there too help u girls. Foolish to enter the lion's den.
This is a comment that has nothing to do with the movie... It seems like the one thing Hollywood can't imagine is anyone who actually takes religious mores about sex seriously. The idea that devout Mormons aren't actually secretly giving blowjobs and watching porn seems impossible, and maybe making them hypocrites in this way makes them seem more approachable (and not doubt a not-insignificant portion of them are nominal and don't really practice what they preach). But it's a bit silly, a kind of secular-face, making it seem like no one really believes in this or practices it, except maybe some bizzare weirdos somewhere. I spend my time surrounded by a variety of religious and semi-religous and some not very religious girls and their moms, and none of them talk about sex like the girls in this movie, and would consider it a kind of theater of the absurd. Most non-religious girls I know wouldn't talk like this, and the religious ones would never do it. But I guess you write what you know (or what works for the kind of characters you're building).
He was quite evil in Paddington 2

Second jump into horror, he was in lair of the white worm
A far better film by Ken Russell
Love that movie 🐍
Lair of the White Worm is legendary❤
...and 'Notting Hill' was pretty horrific too.
Adore that movie!
Is there violent scene ? Is the ending good ?
Hugh dida really great job in the latest D&D movie. He played a real scumbag.
The movie sounds insane. "Wanna cup of tea before I trap you two in my death maze?" 🤣
Hahhaaha loooo😊
I’m looking forward to Hugh Grant playing a sinister character
Damn. Now I want to see Hugh star as Number 6 in a Prisoner movie/show
Looks good. Hugh has gotten no respect for his villian parts in " cloud atlas" didn't do very well. I loved it. Sleepy reporter in the gentlemen
Anthony Hopkins vibes
Genuine question: why are they waiting so long to release this in November since you and other film critics have been able to see early screenings?

@@KeytarKris That would be a big spoiler. It's an unexpected ending.

Thanks for the review.
Would you mind not having the background music?
It’s very distracting and a little annoying?
Thanks! 🙏
Since first seeing the trailer a week ago i can`t get the Hollies "air that i breathe" out of my head LOL
Lair of the White Worm was Hugh’s greatest role and he openly talks about his time being in the greatest movie ever made.
This looks really good! Can't wait to check it out thanks😊
I love it when actors take a risk like this!! 🍿

Watch Grant in HBO's 'The Undoing' 🤐
I adore this more diverse actor we're getting from Grant. He's truly impressive
So looking forward to this movie!

Patrick McGoohan was Irish.
Doesn’t look like a movie I'd pay money to see

You know what Mormons say about their women. Brigham young and Brigham often.
You know what they say about edited comments? Too pussy to own up to past mistakes.
Looks awesome
