    Man every time I watch Lyss I get excited about life, no matter what's happening in mine! I honestly think this is the first time I've ever had someone I would call a role model or icon or whatever ❤️ thank you so much Lyss for living so engaged and embodied and vulnerable 🌻

    Okay, this might sound random but I just HAVE to share this 😂 My boyfriend didn’t have a birthday or anything, but I read somewhere that most men only get their first flowers at their funeral. So I was like... um no, I’m changing that. I got him this LEGO flower bouquet made for men. I handed it to him and said, ‘I read this and thought of you,’ and omg, he actually teared up! 😭
    We spent the evening building it together like a little date night, and it was so much fun. Honestly, I didn’t expect him to react like that... I think he was really touched. Anyway, it’s super cute and now it's sitting on his desk haha. Just wanted to share because it made me so happy

      what a beautiful story. you're right , men don't get flowers normally so when suddenly one receives flowers is really unexpected. I have received flowers once in my life ,about ten years ago , and I still remember that day. Would love a lego bouquet lol

    Red brick is porous, water gets in, expands when freezing and crumbles the brick.
    My house had the same problem on my chimney (a 300yr old property in Harwich, Essex UK)
    Good luck, hope you get to match the bricks up, also treat the bricks with a waterproofing spray but make sure it's breathable. Something to look into 🙏

    • @Kinann
      @Kinann 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Plus they're removing the heat reflective insulation. That brick looks real porous and will need sealed.
      Now the new porch doesn't match the house!!

    • @borntraveller007
      @borntraveller007 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Kinann Renovations can't be rushed, you don't buy an Old house for an easy life. It's a real labour of love. The porch will look great, it's in capable hands ❤👍
      It got in that state by people not understanding their own buildings, red brick has great earthing/energy powers, it's why it was used, something that has been forgotten over the centuries. That's probably what attracted her to buy it, old houses like that give off an energy.... mine does and is what made me buy mine, although I do occasionally feel like Tom Hanks in The Money Pit 🙄😬🤣

    • @wazza33racer
      @wazza33racer วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      The old mortars were also a problem.......simple lime mortar crumbles badly with age. I pulled down an old chimney (1890 built) here in Australia, and the bricks could be pulled out by hand, or light tap with a hammer. Not structurally sound.

    • @borntraveller007
      @borntraveller007 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@wazza33racer I've no idea what my mortar is made from but it's solid, I'm fairly sure that's what's holding the chimney up. It's a honeycomb structure, albeit brick shaped.
      I slid smaller bricks in, and mortared round them, leaving the original mortar intact.
      Luckily it's in the attic so not seen and only 4x bricks had crumbled??

    I completely understand why you decided to bring the house back to its original brick state, but, the white siding gave it a cool farmhouse look that you won't get with the brick. That being said, I am looking forward to seeing what you do with the house. Your comment about how buying the house has given you a sense of purpose and connection that was missing for you when you were feeling down really resonated for me. I'm in the process now of trying to figure out what that will be for me. I always enjoy your very wise commentary at the end of most of your videos.

    When I saw the white siding, my first thought was that the bricks were deteriorating, as one would expect . In my mind adding the insulation and siding was a reasonable choice for several reasons. Masonry repair is expensive. The house was probably very poorly insulated, because ways to insulate have undergone astonishing advances since it was built. Aluminum siding would have made the house warmer in Winter and cooler in Summer . I like white houses .

    I am literally watching my dream life with all the birds and animals and flowers!!! But the house looks amazing with the brick and I am so relieved that the mason isn’t worried about it. That must be such a relief to you. On a personal note, you guys look much more comfortable now that you aren’t trying to be “friends” and you can be what you want. Not that it is anyone’s business but it is beautiful to watch it unfold without boundaries and it kinda helps others see what a good relationship looks like. Love brick homes and if all done correctly by the brick layer and so forth it will look so cool! 😎😎😎
    The bigger problem you will have and I am sure why whomever put the siding on with that insulation behind it was to seal up the house from hot and cold w/probably more emphasis on cold.
    So I am sure you will have other projects from inside the home trying to add more insulation to seal up the house more so. Suggest if affordable taking a good look @ upgrading/replacing as many of those windows as you can as well as perhaps some of the outside doors to start with.
    Still such a cool home all the around and finding the brick underneath - would do the same exact thing but lots of work coming for Ben & you Alyssa as well as expense but confident it will be all worth it on a grand scale!!!!!👍👍👍

    Siloxane is a product that you can purchase to seal the brick from moisture from seeping into the brick. You’ll love me for that but of info. Your local sherwin Williams can order in for you. I owned and operated a residential pressure washing and sealing company for 30 yrs. and I used that product on a house that had gotten a bad batch of brick that was allowing water to seep into the basement. Saved my customer $$$$ .. it is clear and order less when completely dry but I would wear protective loathing when applying and a respirator. A pump up sprayer will work and you apply it very heavy to the point you can see it running down the brick . I’d say that old brick is porous and extremely soft you will want to seal it up asap.

    My fault I couldn't watch this until now. Thank you both for the video of the house looks really good and I'm glad it's only a little bit of structure damage that the Mason can fix. The yaks at the end was funny 🤣🤣🤣

    Looks like the old Montgomery Wards siding that they would put up right over whatever you had. I could be wrong, but it sure looks like it. About the tunnel, don't know why it was made but I do know in other gold rush towns men would use the tunnels to leave the red light district and get back into moral society, lol. A lot of the gold rush towns in CAlifornia have tunnels under them searching for Gold. But they were also used for that reason.

    The house looks amazing with the exposed brick walls. Now you need windows that extend into the arches. You will need a really good mason. After that however, it will be good for another 130 years.

    Lyss, you are so cute, both personality and looks. I so enjoy these videos and so happy for you and Ben. You could entertain a room full of people without even trying! Your laugh is infectious. I always feel happy after watching your videos. I could only be so lucky in my life as a single guy to find your clone that is a little bit older. Thanks for sharing your journey.

    No offense to you and Ben's hard work, your videography or storytelling, but the bloops at the end with the cows was the BEST part of the whole video. More of that next week, please!!! :)
