    Hi Sally, thanks for the inspiring video! I too am over skinny jeans… I’m about to start a pair of jeans + cords using the Atelier Scammit Allure pattern. Re: sweatshirt pattern, I’ve made several Named Eloise turtleneck sweatshirts (with a lovely sweetheart seam across the chest). It sews up super quickly on the serger. Have a lovely week! 🧵

    Loved this vlog,really interesting.The patterns you've chosen look good. The wrap coat patterns are quite different.I prefer the second one as I think it's more suited to wearing the type of jumpers your going to make.The first one is fitted so I think is more suited to fine jumpers.

    Great selection Sally lots of sewing looking forward to seeing them made up.I bought two inexpensive blazers this year and have worn them to death even though the material was a type of linen which creases like mad I really like them so handy to throw on and still look stylish.Hope you do a couple of sew alongs 🤞🙂 x

    I feel very inspired to plan my fall and winter wardrobe now, after listening to your Vlog Sally Love all your plans and I like to go in the stores to see what the latest fashions are and then feel inspired to make them myself😃 The Heather blazer has been on my list for a while, but I have not plucked up the courage to make it yet as I haven’t made jackets for a long time! Love the Rowan cardigan you plan to knit. I still have a knitting project from last winter to finish 😊

    I’ve just making the Dawn jeans straight leg version. Started at a workshop which was great and gave me the confidence to do them. Have to say the instructions are fantastic. Great to get a good fit on jeans definitely won’t be the last pair I make I am really enjoying the process of the make . X

    Our styles are very different, but I appreciated your thought process about what your closet should contain and that works for you. I've only been sewing for 3 years and in that time I've sewn a lot of independent pieces and now I find it's very hard to put an outfit together. I, too, am trying to reassess what I actually need vs what I want. The problem I run into as I am getting older, is not choosing styles that will end up looking frumpy on me. I'm 5' 2ish" with a solid build, not the delicate petite build you have. I've struggled my whole life with finding outfits that look stylish and elegant and that don't make me look heavier than I actually am. All of the loose, oversized, boxy and chunky styles currently so popular in the sewing community, and which look amazing on you, are out of proportion for me. Lol, I think I've just gone out on a tangent here. Anyway, your video is making me rethink what my focus should be, and I thank you for that.

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Oh it's so hard isn't it, keep trying different styles it's all about trial and error I think. I know what you mean about feeling frumpy I feel the same at 5'3" in some styles it's hard to find what works. I'm glad the video gave you some inspiration xx

    I made the Style Arc Ormond, it was involved but it came together pretty nicely. I've also made the Bert and I really like it. I've made a bunch of Heather blazer - one of my fave patterns!

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah we obviously have similar taste 😊 What fabric did you use for the Ormand coat? I’m just wondering if it would work better in a twill or trench type of fabric rather than a wool blend? Thanks for watching x

    I love this way of thinking when you plan your makes! I always think of how well a fabric or a style will fit in to my existing wardrobe and love to watch others planning their wardrobe. Next up I hope to see you styling your lovely new makes with what you already own ☺️
    I really admire your guts to sew coats, I want to but I’m too scarves to mess up expensive fabric 😱 The styles you want to make are gorgeous!
    I’m just about to start sewing a cardigan from a lovely yellow jaquard knit. 💛

    I’ve made McCalls 8240 which is a collared pullover and it was a nice pattern. You could add buttons if you like that look. Also, there is a blazer pattern from Simplicity 9468. It’s an unlined blazer that might be a nice option too. Good luck with your fall plans. Can’t wait to see the results!

    Great video, love the Heather blazer, I've made 3 so far in different types of fabric. I made a fuscia pink denim one, a grey boucle one, and a black suiting one. Love them all and have a tan check suiting one ready to go. It's a satisfying sew, a few techniques to learn but very good instructions and a good tutorial too. X

    As usual, I love your plans😍 Just one caution: Simplicity patterns tend to run big…perhaps a toile is in order, although you did want the coat to be oversized so it may work out!😉 xxoo

    I've made the Dawn jeans a couple of times, and personally I wouldn't make them again in a rigid denim; I'd definitely use a denim with some stretch. Especially if you're looking for comfort in your clothes! Be careful with the sizing too, as there is very little ease in the hip.(at least according to the version of the pattern that I have). Definitely one to toile, or at least give yourself larger than usual seam allowances so you can adjust as required.

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah thank you, that's good to know. I guess it would be sensible to make a toile first x

    I love your ideas for coats. I’ve never made one before as I’ve always felt they were a project too far. But after watching a couple of Oslo coat sewalongs and seeing the Narva coat highlighted on Guthrie and garni, a loose fitting coat doesn’t seem so scary after all. Love your videos snd really look forward to new ones coming out.

    • @SecretLifeOfASeamstress
      @SecretLifeOfASeamstress  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much! I think if you pick a simple coat it really isn’t too bad the challenge is handling the thick fabric and lining of course xx

    • @ritaadler-everett5392
      @ritaadler-everett5392 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Just go for it! Before I knew any better, when I had just begun sewing, I decided to make the By Hand London Rowen coat. It was a steep learning curve for me at the time, but it came out so beautiful - well there are a few boo boos in the lining, but the rest is so lovely! Now coats, jackets, etc, don't intimidate me in the least. My next coat will be the Narva Coat featured in the G&G kit.

    Great ideas. I bought the Bert Style Arc Pattern last year - I even have the fabric but I haven’t the confidence to sew it. It’s the placket which has me stumped. Any tips/tutorials on how to make it would be very much appreciated by me. It’s a lovely pattern. I also like the way you are approaching your makes and take inspiration from your ideas. Many thanks, Helen❤

    I'm working on The coat by The avid seamstress right now. It's quite a pleasureable sew but note that the shoulder is quite dropped. For the sweater, what about Mccall's 8240? But maybe you're already aware of that one. I'm also thinking about making a blazer but I will be using the Elevated blazer by Ellie and Mac which is a pattern designed for knit fabric and therefore maybe a bit more comfortable to wear. Happy sewing 🧵😊

    Sally, thanks for sharing your Pinterest board. I have been sidelined for the next 3 to 6 months because I broke both bones in my wrist and fractured my arm and had to have surgery to put plates and screws and things in to repair the break. In that time I will be unable to knit, crochet,or sew. I am planning to read a great deal, and I’d like to learn how to use Pinterest. I always enjoy your videos and look forward to watching some. I may have missed while I am on hiatus. Take care. Claudia.

    Lots of plans Sally! Well done. I’ve heard the Duchess jeans are really good but they are just a more relaxed fit than wide leg. I’m the opposite as find skinny jeans are the best fit for me and I struggle to get a good fit in other styles. I also find that longer trousers are an effort around the house ,without higher boots. Your coat plans are great. I’ve been tempted to try the Sapporo coat but it could swamp me , plus I have enough coats! I love the Riess camel coat as I had a camel coat for years. I like them really long. Have you seen the Makers Atelier coat pattern?I saw it made up at the K&S show a few years ago. Good luck with all your plans👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻💕

    Super video Sally and really like your planned makes. I think the Simplicity coat pattern is more like the coat you want to make and it’s lovely. The navy striped sweatshirt is great too - did you not knit a similar jumper (Wool & the Gang kit? I think a navy blazer would be fab and would look great with your new jeans 👍🏻. Good luck finding a camel jumper/fabric as I’ve been hunting for similar for over a year, there are lots out there, but finding a true camel colour is very difficult. Let me know if you find it 😍x
