    I got a pair a while back for 3 inch midranges for my 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Fit was excellent and when spray painted with matching matte black for my JGC, it blended quite nicely. Overall, i was super impressed and saved a ton of money and didn't have to try and cobble together something myself that would have probably looked terrible.

    Great video. I think a lot of DIYers will appreciate this short cut, I only learned about this website recently but sadly they did not offer a product for my vehicle. Fabricating pillars takes a lot of time but of course there are benefits to building them from scratch. You can recess the speakers a little more, you can finish them how you like for an OEM appearance, and you can ensure the angle is spot on. It would be nice if you followed up this installation video with a listening review, maybe show the angle they chose by mounting a laser or wooden dowel to the speaker mounting surface, and in the future build your own panels to compare and contrast.
    I also don't think your installation is complete. I think there is benefit to opening up the section of the OEM panel behind these pods to give the midrange more air space. I think the whole panel and pod needs sound deadener treatment and maybe stuffing with polyfill. Lastly, even if angles or the protrusion is undesirable, this gets your speakers installed and working. You can always cut them up and make use of the general shape while creating something custom.

    Love all your videos Justin. I’m getting ready to do a complete install on my cherry 2002 Suburban so I’ll being using your 10% off code. I’m installing some CT Sounds Meso 2 way 6.5” components for my front stage. Wish I would have purchased their 3 ways but was thinking about putting the 6.5” CT’s in the door and then also next to it install a 5-1/2” I have that are NOS Poweramper components to get extra mid bass punch. But maybe should just use some 3.5” and tweeters like you install on the pillars. I’m all about the best sound quality. Have several NOS sound quality made in USA Poweramper amps. Also have one of their tube amps to that is NOS. Have a pair of NOS older 12” JL Audio subs I bought back in 1995. I can’t think of which models but think they are 12W0-4 . I need to figure out what new dual din head unit would be best for sound quality and front and rear cameras. Any suggestions from anyone would be great. I’m hearing some good stuff about the newer Kenwood Excelon head units. But like Alpine but think the new ones I’ve heard are not so great and for what they want for them.

    Do you need to put your speakers “on axis” if you have a DSP? I’m trying to keep my truck looking as factory as possible.

    • @DIYAudioGuy
      @DIYAudioGuy  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      It depends on what you're trying to do. When you are off access you will get a drop off in the higher frequencies, a DSP can do a lot to help that, but it can only do so much. If you're shooting for the ultimate sound quality set up then you want to make sure that you are on axis before you start using the dsp.
      But if all you want is a daily driver that sounds awesome then the DSP can fix a lot of the problems from an off-axis setup.

      This is definitely a concern for modern vehicles, inspect your vehicle carefully before attempting to install these pods or modify your panels. I just built pannels for a '23 Ford Transit. It has a bolted on hand-hold above the area you would put the pod (most trucks have these these days). The airbag will blow out between the window and the hand-hold so modifications below that will not affect it. But again, be careful removing your panels, inspect everything, and figure out how it might work in a crash before you modify a piece of equipment that could affect safety.

    What happened to Car Audio. Everything Fishman taught has been lost
    There's no way I'd roll with pods. I'd fiberglass my own set using my pillars so it's no a cookie cutter setup
