By the way, I have a small garage and had to do the work outside. I did not take off the wheels: just jack up the front of the car and turn the wheels outside. that way you can also reach all the bolts and remove the inner panel.
I recently bought an '07 335i sedan (also black, FWIW), and the "Left Parking Light Malfunction" error came up on the iDrive today. This was a perfect video to explain how to replace the angel eye light. After seeing it, I believe I'll do the LED upgrade as you have done here. Thank you for this DIY video, and justifying to my wife why I needed a new metric and torx tool set. :)
I installed these on my 2009 328xi sedan with halogen headlamps and it worked for a few weeks, then the driver side angel eye died, tried another set that was sent by Bavauto, but still no luck, switched back to the OEM bulbs, but still no luck after researching and even brought the car to the dealership in Peabody, MA they state it that the LEDs killed the FRM (footwell module) that controls the lighting system and other components on the Bimmers. I contacted Bavauto since these are suppose to be error free, but their is no warranty to cover the FRM, they suggested I called Bimmian which is supplies them with the Weisslicht bulbs, but they also don't provide any warranty for this. I'm also experiencing the same with the WeissLicht fog lights bulbs as well. Now I have to spend around $1000 to buy a new FRM, install it and program it by the dealership. Be careful with this product before you install it. Thanks!
EXCELLENT video! I watched a few other videos before finding yours. Those others were good attempts, but typically quite amateur with wind noise and poor video techniques. I found your video to be at a good pace, good narrative and explanations, with very clear images depicting components. I really appreciated the Halogen versus LED light comparison shot at the end of the video! That sealed the deal for me! Keep up the great work!
Many a joke has been told about the light bulb, but you have just answered the question of "How many mechanics does it take to change a BMW light?" Thank you. Another well done video by BavAuto.
One note about these replacements - when starting the car with the new LEDs, you may notice that the driver-side halos will blink on and off a few times as part of the car's normal self-test routine. The standard equipment doesn't do this, probably because the original lights are not as sensitive as the LEDs are to the micro-pulses that test the circuits. I only noticed it because I was in a dark garage, BTW. The halos blink on and off several times for about 10 seconds or so. I don't know if there are any ill effects to the bulbs because of this, but this is the risk you take with aftermarket parts. Otherwise, the white lights are a big improvement over the yellow OE, IMHO.
The E70 chassis X5 (07-current) LED angel eye install is comparatively easy. The New LED bulbs are a direct replacement for the original bulbs. Open the hood. Locate the round access covers (about 3" to 4" in diameter) on the backsides of the headlight housings, Turn the covers counter-clockwise to remove. Locate the bulb inside the housing and twist counter-clockwise to release and pull out. Disconnect the harness plug. Connect the new LED harness and bulb and install the bulbs.
Hello that was an excellent video. Can you tell me if that is the same process I follow for the 2005 BMW 760i. If not do you have another DIY video or can you tell me how to access the bulb change?
On the E65 7-series, the headlight assembly must be removed to access the angel eye bulbs. In order to remove the headlight, the bumper must be removed (not terribly difficult). Please feel free to email us at info@bavauto.com and ask for install instructions.
That is very clear and great job, I love it. I have a BMW 2009 750Li and tried to fine such Angle Eyes bulbs that fit in my car but could not find any, can you please give some help to get those Angel Eyes thanks.
Hi, Great video! I have a 2010 328xi sedan with halogen headlights. I'd like to upgrade as well and was wondering whether the installation process is the same as the video above. Also, I ordered led lights from another site a while back and may have to return them because the electrical contacts are vertical and the ones on the oem lights are horizontal so they won't plug. If I use those lights, I will have to cut the wire and krimp on a wire connector. Will that work or cause a problem?
The E92 coupe has access from under the hood, for the Angel Eye bulbs. We have a DIY on this, on our Tech Blog. The DIY was done with a different LED bulb kit, so disregard the extra wiring and how the bulbs look different. Just pay attention to the access steps. Go to: blog.bavauto.com and search "E92 LED Angel Eye".
The E82/88 chassis, such as your 135i, requires removal of the bumper, then the headlight assembly in order to install the LED angel eye bulbs. The bumper removal is not duifficult and only takes 15 to 30 minutes.
great video. very detailed. I have a 2006 X5 E53 4.4i. I would like to have my Angel Eyes to be bright white too. Do you have a video already up showing the installation for that vehicle? Would I have to replace the rings themselves or is it a light bulb swap like this one? My X5 is post face lift for reference
We do offer two LED angel eye upgrade bulb kits for the late E53 X5. The bulbs replace the original Halogen bulbs. Replacement is easy, from the rear of the headlight housing, from under the hood. PIAA LED upgrade: www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?part=19503 WeissLicht LED upgrade: www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?part=LHUXX1W2Y53
Actually, replacing the angel eye bulbs on the E39 5-series is VERY easy. The bulbs are installed into the rear of the headlight housing, between the high and low light assemblies. Some models may require that the engine air filter box be removed, if it is behind the angel aye bulb socket.
Excelent video! I have a 2009 BMW X3 2.0d, I replaced the original Daytime Driving Lights(Halogen 12V, 10W) with LED Bulbs, but the LED bulbs is not working. To change the bulbs is very easy, because it is easy to access. I removed the bulb fitting and tested the LED Bulb in the fitting, but a exsternal 12V power source and the LED Bulbs was woking perfectly. Why does the LED Light Bulbs not work from the X3 power source? Thank you for your good advise.
Are the angle eyes bulbs the same regardless if you have the hid or halogen headlight setup? Just don't want to purchase the wrong bulbs from you guys. Thanks
OMG your a life saver!!!! I wonder if the Depo aftermarket lights works the same way? I far as I know the quality on the Depo sucks, I only had them for 4 days and it allready started to condensate inside the housing
I installed on my 2011 e90, these things look beautiful. Only issue is, my angel eyes used to run with my DRLs, now the angel eyes only power on with parking/welcome and low beam/high beam.
Great Video Bavauto. Where can I find the "kit" that you are taking about? Will this also work on a 2006 330i? Thanks !! Does the "kit" come with LED bulbs? Thanks.
The LEd conversions are in our online store at BavAuto.com. The kit includes the LED bulbs and any parts required for the conversions. The E90 3-series sedan kits (such as your 2006 330i) can be found in this link - www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?part=LHUXX3W2Y90
how many light bulb do we need ? i have bmw 328xi 07 , one headlight have 2 circle light inside . so do i need total 4 lightbulbs for both side(right and left) ? thank you
With our LED conversion bulb kits, you will not have to cut or change your original connectors. The install is different on the 2009-12 sedan models. You do not need to install from under the car, as shown in this video
Can you tell me how to get the extra wires/assembly including the error code diffuser to fit in the bulb housing cover? Any recommendations for my e90? All went together well but it won't snap on with all the connections stuffed in there
If the unit you are installing, has a separate resistor unit, you'll just have to do your best to try to get it all jammed in there. No solid suggestions, sorry.
sara krueger Just stumbled across this video and your comment after searching for the same info. Maybe this will help someone else out, since I couldn't find anything. Best solution I came up with for my 2008 335i sedan with xenons: Open up the angel eye housing and the main headlight housing. After removing the angel eye bulb and bracket, you'll notice 2 holes directly above the fiber optic connections for the angel eye rings. (Be careful not to damage these!!) The left hole is where the brown and green power cables route into the angel eye housing. The right holes goes straight above into the main headlight assembly, which is the hole I used to route my resistor. I carefully routed the green and brown power connectors into the right hole, connected my resistor assembly inside the main housing and then used heat shrink tubing (or you can use black electrical tape) to prevent any potential shorts. I secured the resistor in place using double-sided tape in a pocket in the upper middle portion of the headlight assembly. I then routed the power cable from the resistor into the angel eye housing and connected it to the new LED bulb. Just take your time. The hardest part is routing the cables through the small hole, since the wheel well is awkward to work inside of. Do NOT try to jam everything into the angel eye housing. It will not fit and you'll end up breaking something, plus you need some space for heat dissipation. Hope this helps someone!
HI I purchased the LUX e90 V7 halo bulbs for my 08 335xi e90 & they don't fit. Any solution would be appreciated. My headlights say dynamic xenon d1s f56mm. My best guess is my headlights are not stock.
I love the video, it helped me a lot. Do you know if that brand also provide fog lights in white color? I bought some from another brand on ebay a few weeks ago and they work just fine, but there is this fog light service light popping up on my dashboard. Any sugestions?
I have a 2007 Bmw 750. I tried to put in the led angel eyes but seems like I have to take off the whole bumper. Is there a way around this huge problem?
I love the videos Otto...Please keep them up! I have a 2009 135i, can I assume this video applies to that vehicle as well, the headlights look the same, unless there is a different access point I will follow these instructions... Thanks again!
Could you please tell me what is the number or name of this bulb? Also I think one of my ballast stopped working because it is not the bulb I just want to know where is the ballast on top or under the headlight ? I have a 335i 08
Is it really necessary to remove the wheel, or was that more for video purposes? I've looked at your site but it seems you don't have my model listed e90 320d European.
Not required, but certainly makes removing the panel easier. We do not list any Euro models on our site. Just "pretend" that you have a US model, such as a 328i. Additionally, please email info@bavauto.com to place an international order ... or call us at 603-427-2002.
Hello, I have a 2011 328i Xdrive. 1) Will this work on my car without error messages? 2) Do i need any pre-installations? 3) I am not sure if I am supposed to purchase a xenon only or halogen only Thank you
Hey there, what do you mean when you say they don't match your lowbeam? Im from canada to, and i am looking to change my lights to xenon or led. i want mine to match too lol. are you talking about when you change the light switch from middle to auto or far right. Let me know. Thanks
I have a 2006 325xi E90, is the angel eyes bulb the same as the DRL? I saw another video that shows the DRL bulb in the same location...are they the same bulb or different? if different, is the replacement of the DRL the same?
It is in the headlight assembly where the xenons are. I couldn't replace mine because I couldn't get to it. I need a guide to change mine as well 2010 328i premium.
Hello, I am enthusiactic follover of your videos, I find them very professional and reliable! Please could you make a video to explain how to change to LED Angle eyes on E65 model? I saw some guys to dismantle the from bumper, what seems to me as drastic operation. Is that the only way? From the wheel side as on this video it doesnt work, I tryed, there is a metal sheet welded just behind the plastic cover....???
Yes, technically, you must remove the bumper in order to pull the headlight assemblies out .... to access the bulbs. We have seen people just pull the headlights out a bit, just enough to access the bulbs.
The E65/66 7-series is totally different. there is a cover on the rear of the headlight housing and the bulb is accessed through the cover. the bulb does "twist" in to the housing. The headlight must be pulled forward to access the cover. The "proper" procedure is to remove the bumper. However, many have done the bulb replacement by unbolting the headlight assembly and just pulling it forward enough to access the cover ... without removing the bumper.
***** - Ronnie, Since we do not have a video on this chassis, we would suggest that you do a search for "E65 Angel Eye DIY" to view some DIY videos done by car owners. There are a few that show various slightly different procedures, but you can get a good idea of what you'll need to do.
The later model E90 sedans are accessed from above. We do not have a video for the late E90 models (3-series sedan 09-12). If you'd like to email us at info@bavauto , we can send you the written instructions, from the manufacturer.
hi , I have a question. I installed angel lights on my car but the problem I have now is that my low beam light don't match with the angel eyes, they are halogen bulb. in Canada you have to have it on so I cant turn off the low beam light. I do have xenon lights for the night, but the low beam s don't match the angel eyes. what can I do for this problem?
Fantasiv Video Otto, like others here, I've watched a few of these, but yours is by far way ahead of all the others. Very professional and perfectly detailed and methodical. Going to the bench with the bits was also very good, as was saying exactly what vehicle it is you're working on. Some don't realise that the late E90's, the LCI facelift models past 2009, are different and have different mounts. Do you have, or had, and comment/experience, on the post of someone on here with the LED bulbs damaging the lighting module - I'm now worried about fitting these, as that module is mega bucks.
I have a 2009 Bmw 328i sedan with stock headlights (no angel eyes). However, I would like to upgrade my headlights to LED angel eyes. How would I go about doing so? What would be your recommendation? Any help is appreciated!
After watching this video I thought to myself this looks easy enough so I should be able to do it. I got the wheel off my car, and when I look at the inner panel it looks nothing like the one in the video. On my car there are two panels there and not one, and they are screwed together horizontally by the brake duct with 4-5 ordinary 8mm screws, and one plastic circle with a tiny hole in it. I have absolutely no idea how to get that out since nothing fits inside that tiny hole. I tried pushing a flat screwdriver under the circle and pull it out but that didn't work either. I also have no screws underneath the bumper like you said in the video. I thought maybe the bottom panel isn't supposed to come out, but if I managed to remove that plastic circle that keeps the two panels together, I might be able to pull the top panel out. Do you have any idea? I have the exact same car as the one in the video except mine is the M-Sport edition
What year and model is your car? Sedan or coupe? Are you talking about the passenger side front wheel well? If you have the M-Sport edition then you have the oil cooler radiator there (only on one side, not the driver side). I am also betting your car is a 2009 or later right? What I found in doing mine was that it was not necessary to fully remove the splash guard. Instead I was able to peel it back enough to get access to the halo light access.
sbscottw E90 2007 320d is my car. I managed to get that plastic plug out in the end, but I had to destroy it cos there was no way to get it out and I was definately not putting it back in. After I got it out, the rest was pretty easy. Although I got extremely confused by the orientation of the bulb. I started on the left side (same as this video) and when I took the halogen bulb out, it was upside down compared to this video. Also, the LED bulbs I bought did not have this "raised area", so I just had to guess when I put them in. The result looks fantastic though so I am not sure why it matters.
I have a 2006 325Xi Wagon with active headlights I thinks it's called one of the LEDs went out. I need a new set which do I need? Prior owner installed current ones not sure of brand. The light bulb out light is driving me nuts
Of course, we can't know if the prior owner installed stock bulbs or something else. The stock bulbs can be purchased individually. The LED bulbs come in pairs, to do both lights. You can check what is available by going to our online store at www.bavauto.com . Just ID your car and then search "angel eye". You can also call our Advisors at 800-535-2002.
My angel eyes gives away static noise to my stereo. When I have them on the stereo gives me static noise, when I have them turned off it sound perfect.. I changed mine from yellow to white. On the box it say it doesn't Interfere with am/fm
i have an 07 bmw 328xi (e90) and im just wondering how can u turn off ur daylight and leave the halo on? bec everytime i have my daylight on and halo at the same time...
Hi I have 2011 f11 halogen spec I want to upgrade the angel eyes bulbs With brighter LEDs But I can't find the location of the bulb Also have hid xenon kit where is the best place to fit the blast Thanks
Thank you for the very informative and well made video. It helped me to replace on myw own E90 318d the old angel eye bulbs by leds. I've been driving around with the new ones since a week and am well pleased.
Would this be exactly the same as my 2010 E90 saloon (EfficientDynamics) or is it just very similar? If it is different, in what way will it be? Cheers
By the way, I have a small garage and had to do the work outside. I did not take off the wheels: just jack up the front of the car and turn the wheels outside. that way you can also reach all the bolts and remove the inner panel.
That will work!
Jan D'Hondt Thanks for the advice, I was already thinking about the hard time taking the tire out.

The facelift E90 is accessible from above, via an access panel in the top of the headlight housing,.

thank you so much! will this upgrade to the angel eyes look like the new 3 series stock led angel eyes lighting output? or as bright? thanks again!
Thanks for the reply...do you have a DIY video for the 2009-2012 sedan models? Thanks again!
The E92 coupe has access from under the hood, for the Angel Eye bulbs. We have a DIY on this, on our Tech Blog. The DIY was done with a different LED bulb kit, so disregard the extra wiring and how the bulbs look different. Just pay attention to the access steps. We do offer two LED angel eye upgrade bulb kits for the late E53 X5. The bulbs replace the original Halogen bulbs. Replacement is easy, from the rear of the headlight housing, from under the hood.

This Friday I'll be doing this with this video playing. Very nice job making this diy video
This may be due to the modulated power supply for the system. The LEDs that you have may not be properly designed to run on the modulated signal.
Led s are polar sensitive. Reverse the wire and try.
Top video!! Really appreciate you taking the time to put this together.
Are the angle eyes bulbs the same regardless if you have the hid or halogen headlight setup? Just don't want to purchase the wrong bulbs from you guys. Thanks

Some chassis/models do use different bulbs for the Halogen vs HID headlights. In these cases, our listings (bavauto.com) will note this.
Any videos on installing in 5 series?
I installed on my 2011 e90, these things look beautiful. Only issue is, my angel eyes used to run with my DRLs, now the angel eyes only power on with parking/welcome and low beam/high beam.
hi, please why is the orientation of the angel eyes important? Must be the bigger side of the new angel eyes up?
The bulb only fits one way.
Best video on here showing how to do this, thanks.
Really good video; you make it seem so easy. Would the install be the same on an 2005 545?
Great Video Bavauto. Where can I find the "kit" that you are taking about? Will this also work on a 2006 330i? Thanks !! Does the "kit" come with LED bulbs? Thanks.

Is this the same proces for e90 320d 2005.? Great video!
On the E60/E61 5-series, the headlights must be removed to access the A/E bulbs.
so the 2008 model, would I have to do it this way as you show??
I have 2010 X5 and its Angel Eye and DLR bulb are same. I tried Angel Eye but no more DLR light. Is there any LED bulb which serves both ?
Very detailed video. Thank you. Do you have a tutorial for E60 halo bulb replacement?
Please email info@bavauto- we do have an install video for the E60, from the supplier.
how many light bulb do we need ? i have bmw 328xi 07 , one headlight have 2 circle light inside . so do i need total 4 lightbulbs for both side(right and left) ? thank you
With our LED conversion bulb kits, you will not have to cut or change your original connectors. The install is different on the 2009-12 sedan models. You do not need to install from under the car, as shown in this video
I have a 2011 328i pre lci model. Can you show a headlight led conversion. That bypasses the ballast
Can you tell me how to get the extra wires/assembly including the error code diffuser to fit in the bulb housing cover? Any recommendations for my e90? All went together well but it won't snap on with all the connections stuffed in there

sara krueger Just stumbled across this video and your comment after searching for the same info.
Hope this helps someone!
i like the way the detail are done. step by step better than any others out there . do you have any more on 2007 335i bmw videos
Excellent video with very clear instructions, thank you very much.
I will replace them shortly and hope everything goes well as per the video..
We have not noticed this as a common problem. Have you been in touch with our customer service advisors?
HI I purchased the LUX e90 V7 halo bulbs for my 08 335xi e90 & they don't fit. Any solution would be appreciated. My headlights say dynamic xenon d1s f56mm. My best guess is my headlights are not stock.
what's the process for the 2009 facelift with standard halogen bulbs with angel eye?
I love the video, it helped me a lot. Do you know if that brand also provide fog lights in white color? I bought some from another brand on ebay a few weeks ago and they work just fine, but there is this fog light service light popping up on my dashboard. Any sugestions?
I have a 2007 Bmw 750. I tried to put in the led angel eyes but seems like I have to take off the whole bumper. Is there a way around this huge problem?
I have the 07 335I as well. How did you get the angel eyes only to come on?
I love the videos Otto...Please keep them up! I have a 2009 135i, can I assume this video applies to that vehicle as well, the headlights look the same, unless there is a different access point I will follow these instructions...
Thanks again!
Could you please tell me what is the number or name of this bulb? Also I think one of my ballast stopped working because it is not the bulb I just want to know where is the ballast on top or under the headlight ? I have a 335i 08
i love this light bulb . what is your part number i can't find ? thank you
Is your 2008 a sedan or coupe? Does it have Halogen or Xenon headlights?
Is it really necessary to remove the wheel, or was that more for video purposes? I've looked at your site but it seems you don't have my model listed e90 320d European.
Not required, but certainly makes removing the panel easier. We do not list any Euro models on our site. Just "pretend" that you have a US model, such as a 328i. Additionally, please email info@bavauto.com to place an international order ... or call us at 603-427-2002.
Hello,
I have a 2011 328i Xdrive.
1) Will this work on my car without error messages?
2) Do i need any pre-installations?
3) I am not sure if I am supposed to purchase a xenon only or halogen only
Thank you
(late reply)
Thank you.
Took a second look and yes it was indeed very easy to replace it with the led bulbs.
Keep up the good videos!
Thanks for the video - very clear, professional and precise.
WAWO I THINK YOU ARE THE BEST ONE IN ADVISING PEOPLE THANK YOU SO MUCH
I HAVE BMW E90 2006 PACK M AND REALLY I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS
is there only one source of light for both rings or do you need two leds per side?
One bulb per side.
Yes, the angel eyes are used for the DRL (daytime running lights) function.
I have a 2011 328XI sedan... where is the running light located on that year vehicle?? It's not in the same location! Any help would be appreciated.
On the e66/e65(7 series) are there two screws that hold the bulb in place (as seen in this video) or is it twist in and twist out ?
The E65/66 7-series is totally different. there is a cover on the rear of the headlight housing and the bulb is accessed through the cover. the bulb does "twist" in to the housing. The headlight must be pulled forward to access the cover. The "proper" procedure is to remove the bumper. However, many have done the bulb replacement by unbolting the headlight assembly and just pulling it forward enough to access the cover ... without removing the bumper.
BavarianAuto thanks for the speedy response. Is the cover actually on the rear of the assembly or on the bottom of the assembly?

- Ronnie, Since we do not have a video on this chassis, we would suggest that you do a search for "E65 Angel Eye DIY" to view some DIY videos done by car owners. There are a few that show various slightly different procedures, but you can get a good idea of what you'll need to do.
That bulb mounting bracket is not available separately .... it is only part of the complete headlight assembly.
Hi Bavarian Autosport! Can you guys make a video for 2006 BMW 120i Sport?
Do you know the part# for the black mounting bracket @ 6:40. I am missing one. Please help!!! I tried realoem and can't find that part. :(
How can I change the driver side low beam? Mine went out .. it tries to flicker on sometimes but doesn’t turn on
The later model E90 sedans are accessed from above.
We do not have a video for the late E90 models (3-series sedan 09-12). If you'd like to email us at info@bavauto , we can send you the written instructions, from the manufacturer.
I have a 2010 4d bmw 328i and I wanted to change the angel eyes from yellow to white. What would u recommend me buying for my car?
See this link:
www.bavauto.com/fland.asp?part=LHUXX3W2Y90LCI
do you have to use the halos light bulbs or can you use the HID light bulbs?
We are not aware of any HID conversions for the angel eye bulbs.
hi , I have a question.
The bumper does need to come off in order to remove the headlight assembly ..... to install the LED angel eye upgrade bulbs.
Do you have a similar angel eye (parking light) bulb upgrade from 2008 528xi? If so, what is the part number?
You sir are a legend. Do you post to the UK?
I have a 2009 Bmw 328i sedan with stock headlights (no angel eyes). However, I would like to upgrade my headlights to LED angel eyes. How would I go about doing so? What would be your recommendation? Any help is appreciated!
Hi Otto, is there a full upgrade available for the E53 2001 xenon model headlights, the xenons have faded away on my car.
Thanks
Gerry
Cant wait for f30 vid. Is it same?
F30 will be totally different. We have not done this install yet.
Is this exactly like the 08 328xi
Is it the same for BMW 320D late 2006? Produced 2005.
Is this a similar installation for an E63 M6? Any insight is appreciated.
The E63 installs from above. Similar to what is shown in this DIY:
blog.bavauto.com/15634/bmw-e63-e64-6-series-led-angel-eye-bulb-install-how-to/
You make it look so easy!! I wanna try it myself !
Do you remember what is the original angel eyes lamp? H7?
Mmm. Wondering whats the wattage on those LEDs ?
Is this the same for the 2007 238i Sedan?
A BMW dealer has the capability to make this programming change. However, many will not do this for liability issues.
Hi I have 2011 f11 halogen spec
I want to upgrade the angel eyes bulbs
With brighter LEDs But I can't find the location of the bulb
Also have hid xenon kit where is the best place to fit the blast
Thanks
Do these work with the stock halogen projectors on the 07 328i? Or do they only work with the xenon projectors?
As long as it is a sedan, it will be the same. The coupes are accessed from above through a small access hatch in the headlight housing.
no Marsellus Wallace it wont work on the stock halogens. you need xenon headlights.
could someone please provide the part numbers for these type of LED bulbs? I like the plug in 2 pins type, thanks.
Hello, i need a diy for a e87, tried one bulb that hada reactor but it failed after some time..
awesome video! you make it seem like a walk in the park
Cheers
