      Thanks! I really appreciate the vids. I thought I'd have to run fragile oil-lines into the cabin, which was why I was sort of hesitant on buying some gauges. I'm going to get the same ones as you, VDO Vision 0-150PSI oil pressure and 0-300* Oil Temp. It should give me a good idea on what my engine is doing during Auto-X and back-road runs!

    thanks. looking to do this exactly. I'll probably add grommets where wires touch metal but nice job.

      I hope it goes great for you. It was definitely intimidating when I first started but it all came together and still works. Knock on wood. Lol You take care, Tony

    Is there a reason you didn't just hook the original idiot light wire up to the VDO sending unit, W/K terminal instead of running a new wire? I understand you wanted to use both the VDO oil pressure gauge and the dummy light but the dummy light was already ran. Why not just run the one new wire to oil pressure gauge and just hook up the old dummy wire to the W/K terminal and using it? Trying to figure out why you didn't use it beings it was already there. If there is a reason , or if you just felt like running a new wire. Getting ready to do mine and I don't wanna run an extra wire if I can just use the one that's already hooked up to the dummy light in the dash. Thanks for your vids!!

      Hello great question! The only reason I replaced mine is because it was spliced and all taped up and wanted a solid connection. I think who ever had it before had the wire melt and even a good portion was all bubbled. You are 100% right you can use the existing one.

    Why didn't you use the original idiot light cable?
    Great video btw.
    Cheers.

      Using this set up with the T still allows the idiot light to work as well. This gives you more info on whats going on before the light comes on.

    Can you share what is the normal average temperature.

    Thanks for the video, very helpful! I admit, I was totally confused as to how to install the temp sending unit...I threaded it into the t-valve and had no idea that you just connect a wire clip to the end of it...lol So thanks for showing the video so I could figure that part out. =)

      howyoucandoittoo Actually, doing it right now. Came back to your video for some refresher on which lines go to G and WK on back of oil pressure sending unit. I suspect its "Gauge" for G and the the dummy light goes to WK?

    • @ShawnZiemba
      @ShawnZiemba 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      howyoucandoittoo Disregard my question. =) You said which wire goes to WK right at the end. I do have another question for you though. Are you concerned with the added leverage and weight being put on that part of the case where you screw in the t-fitting? This whole setup is a lot longer and heavier and I am just wondering if all the bouncing around will cause that whole three piece unit to start flopping up and down and creating an issue. I think I am going to fab up some sort of arm to allow the setup to rest on so it removes the free weight.

      That is a great idea. I just used what JBugs recommended. But I see what you are saying. It definitely wouldn't hurt. Just remember not to torque down on what ever you screw in. You don't want to strip the threads. Take care

    I do recommend wrapping the wire that makes contact with the car in those entry/exit holes. They will get cut up and short out. Just some friendly advice.

    Y Did you not use the original wire for the idiot light and just change the end. I'm asking as I don't know if this is possible thanks

    i have VDO speedometer on a dune buggy and what has been happening is the pointer of the speedometer becomes very unsteady and wonders all over the place ,, the hall effect sender is impenetrable cant get inside to fix anything ? and FISHER BUGGIES sells it as a empi , made from vdo .. vdo tells me they never hear of that ? welll thats not true i am sure . anyway the hall effect senders craps out at about 16k miles or somewhere in there , not good beware , i am wondering if FISHER OR VDO will respect their guarantee of 2 years? so far i am having dfficulties convincing them ,,, i am sure its the second one that does that . just passing it along ,,,thanks nice vid .

    Could you have used the original idiot light wire or is there a reason you didn't

    • @HowYouCanDoItToo

      Martin Philips Hello when I ordered the gauges the company recommended using the idiot light as another indicator letting you know something is going on. But I believe you could unhook it and use that wire.

      You did answer my question, even tho I don't think we were on the same page. You mentioned you had the original idiot light cable and you tucked it away. I as wondering why y oh didn't leave it hooked up to the light instead of running a new wire to the light. I understand using a new wire for the gauge. I should have worded my question better. Thank you for your answer!

    I am trying to locate the brass ''T'' fitting you mentioned in your video to connect oil pressure and oil temp. sending units to the engine block. Could you give me the dealer name, website etc. so as I can purchase one? Thanks, Steve.

    Question: on the sending unit for oil pressure gauge you said the top wire connects to idiot light. Can you just splice into the wire on the stock oil pressure unit on the block? It has a wire that comes off that that connects to the light up front?

    • @HowYouCanDoItToo
      @HowYouCanDoItToo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is that all you are hooking up just the oil pressure gauge? This set up is for both Temp and oil pressure. I be leave if you are setting up just oil pressure you are correct. I will have to check that out better for you though.

      Ya, Oil for now but may be elect temp later. Still, if you hook the wire you taped up to the top of the vdo oil presure gauge it should work I would think? Any way i forgot to mention it was a VERY help full vid plus your one on the breaks was GREAT too. Thanks for all the help!

    Hello Ez ...do you know the original thread for the VW temp sensor. Is it Metric or BSPT?

    i have vdo gauges on my berrien buggy , the oil gauge is not accurate for starters. the speedometer pointer needle is not steady its acting like a rpm more than a speedometer get it ? its all new and installed properly i am positive . the tech line of vdo , do not know what to tell me on this ? just saying guys .

    What sensors are you using for the pressure and temperature?

    • @HowYouCanDoItToo
      @HowYouCanDoItToo  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry for the late response. It's been 6 years ago, but when I ordered the VDO gauges I be-leave they came with the gauge set from VDO. I do know when I called Fisher Buggies out of Tampa Florida I told them what I was doing and they put together everything I needed to do the install minus the wiring. I also believe the actual sensors are VDO sensors as well but not sure to be honest. I love the VDO Temp and pressure gauges I know if something is going wrong before something major happens. Hope this is the answer you were looking for. I am not a mechanic and this went pretty smooth.

    Why keep calling it “idiot light”? Is the oil pressure warning light, “tattletale” light 😂😂😂
