I was so young when 9/11 happened that I can't really assimilate the towers as an american symbol, I can only associate them with the tragedy (and also I'm not american). When I think of an american symbol it's always the Liberty Statue that pops into my mind. In my lifetime I could only see what NYC skyline looked like with the towers, through old pictures. My final article for the university will be about 9/11 but I confess that it blows my mind to think of a world before it happened, it's hard to me to just conceive this different reality

As a citizen of the UK I've always found it eerie that the towers looked like an eleven and the emergency number in America is 911, and so many emergency workers were killed by this brutal act.

I had that promo poster I cut of a new metal magazine of that slayer album in my room hanging on my wall above my door at least a month or so before 9-11 it was all black and had in blood-typed letters, Slayer God Hates us all... Release date September, 11 2001. I'm telling you, I actually noticed the errieness to my cousin beforehand he also had the same poster. I told him in a joking manner. The cover picture of a major magazine issue back in 1973 showed the original designer / builder or owner of the World Trade Center buildings. To me the original artwork on "The Coup" album is the most eye opening. What drew my attention to it were the locations of the explosions depicted. The one on the right seems to look like the fireball is a bit higher, which closely represents the hit on the first tower. The fact that it's also on the tower with the antenna is even more eerie. Being from the same home town as Dream Theater, I was well aware of the album cover and I knew it would be mentioned in this video, but it's the one after it; Squad Five-O, a band that I had never heard of, that blew my mind! That album cover is somewhere beyond eerie.

The song never seemed to be suitable for Supertramp's prog-leaning concept records - but following the band's massive tours for Even In THe Quietest Moments and Crime Of The Century in the US, it seemed appropriate to revisit the song for the next album. It, of course, became the title track.
A song that takes me back to that time is When You're Falling by Peter Gabriel with Afro Celt Sound System which was released I believe in the summer of 2001, and as if the title wasn't enough, the video for it is even more eerie. I think it was the first album I got after 9/11 as well, I had ordered it days before. I also remember them performing it on David Letterman's show and when they came back after the break following the performance, they showed the NYC skyline with the WTC and a plane flying past the scene. There's also the Ryan Adams song and music video New York New York which was shot in NYC about a week before 9/11 and you see him playing the song with the skyline in the background. The video obviously became a tribute and was shown on VH1 either later that month or the following month. If that wasn't enough, the album the song is from (Gold) has a shot of Ryan in front of an upside down American flag on the cover.
Beastie Boys’ Ill Communication contains a poster of Gaia - an art piece by Alex Grey. In it, you can see the WTC with a plane flying above it. The piece was done in 1989.

I expected to see Billy Joel's 1976 song "Miami 2017" as #1. It's a song about a dystopian world where NYC was demolished. It contains the lyrics "I've seen the lights go out on Broadway. I thought for sure the Explosions in the Sky record would be on here. It has a song called “The Plane Will Crash Tomorrow” (and a plane on the cover) and was rumored to have come out on September 10th. The label claims it actually came out September 4th but it’s easy to see the confusion as it’s not unusual for an album by a fairly obscure indie rock band to not arrive in record stores until a week later. And FWIW, it’s hard to see things like The Coop’s album cover being a true coincidence. A few years before, the World Trade Organization (WTO) had a conference in Seattle that resulted in massive protests. Although the WTO and WTC weren’t overtly connected (as far as I know), they certainly represented a brand of capitalism that is-to say the least-very problematic. In a way, it was targeted on 9/11 for the same reason a lot of artists despised it.
I also expected it here. The album was released on 9/4/2001 (the 10th is not true); titled Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever. The cover features a dark plane (biplane, though) shining a spotlight down on an angel which appears to be flying and praying over what appears to be a line of people armed with rifles. The image is reminiscent of WW2. The liner notes included another plane image and the sentence "This plane will crash tomorrow." It's not a song. Track 1 is titled Greet Death; the last track is titled "With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept" The songs are pretty typical of this early era in post-rock: mostly instrumental, utilizes a few vocal samples from other media, and built around periods of gentle brooding rising to energetic climaxes. It's easy to retro-fit the album into the the crisis of the day.
When looking for predictions, in retrospect of any event, it's always possible to find connections, the majority of which will be very exaggerated at best.
Tool song Jimmy on the Aenema album. It’s track 9 on the album, says “eleven” multiple times in the lyrics, and says things like “eleven and she was gone, eleven is when we said goodbye”. I was convinced this song predicted it. Probably not, but listen to it, it’s a crazy coincidence. 😮

As humans, we like to make connections that may not be there to try to make sense of surprising or horrific things. Powerman 5000's album "Anyone For Doomsday" was suppose to come out in August, but was pulled claiming the material wasn't good enough for release. The very dark Soundgarden song "4th Of July" off the album Superunknown (1994). The chorus goes: Cause I heard it in the wind And I saw it in the sky And I thought it was the end And I thought it was the 4th of July

The Coup album cover is a little less crazy when you think about how lower Manhattan, in particular Wall Street and the WTC, is the financial capitals of the western hemisphere. Still pretty wild though.
A very eerie coincidence that I've always found fascinating is within the videoclip of Mylène Farmer's "L'Instant X" ("The X Moment"), a French song released in 1995… The song itself talks about the end of the World, and the music video was shot in NY: it opens with a wide shot of NYC's skyline (including the WTC). The MV depicts a weird white foam overtaking NYC… it's such a weird mix of elements it gives me chills
There was definitely something eery in the air that day. I live in Belgium Europe and I remember waking up that morning with a very nauseating and bad feeling like there was doom in the air. We have a 6 hours time difference with New York so it was still 3 am in the morning there. Completely against what I normally do I put on the radio news at 4 in the afternoon (10 am NY time) and I heard the terrible news. I had to sit down and immediately felt that this was the cause of my extremely bad feeling that morning. I really had a premonition that day.
I was at work, but at home (Eastern Europe) - not quite so common back then. I did switch the TV on just a few minutes into the coverage, which I had NOT heard about otherwise, and that was NOT a real habit for me, and there was no particular reason. So when I switched on and began with what would be some hours of watching, I immediately put 2 and 2 together and made 5! The Skynyrd Neil Young thing was more of an inside joke as the two were both huge fans of one another. Ronnie Van Zant can often be seen wearing a Neil Young t-shirt and Neil wrote the song Powderfinger with the intention of Skynyrd recording it but then the plane crash happened.
Genesis released their two record album 'The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway' in 1974. One song from it called 'Fly On A Winsheid' has a eerie line 'And the wall of death is lowered in Times Square'.
Regarding the whole "I am the World Trade Center" thing, it's kinda of an interesting story: The duo chose their name because they were living in NYC at the time the band formed (1999), and, well, the World Trade Center was one of the most iconic things in NYC at the time. Also, some crazy and unfortunate coincidence is that their only music video "Metro" had some angles where beams of light came out of buildings, which, well, kinda looked as if the buildings were exploding, so, yeah, there's that. After the attacks, they received a lot of backlash, as people thought they were profiting off from the tragedy, so, they briefly changed their name to "I am The World...". They released two more albums (One in 2002 iirc and one last one in 2004). Kind of a really interesting and unfortunate story, in my opinion.
P.O.D.’s Satellite was released 9/11/01. My school had decided to ban teachers from talking about or showing footage of the attacks. Sure enough it had spread through word of mouth. So, my first visuals were a wall of big screens at Walmart while purchasing that album as a 16 year old

Tori Amos wrote the song "I can't see New York" three months prior to the 9/11 attacks. It was released on the 03' album Scarlets Walk. Interpret it as you wish, but the lyrics are both haunting and heartbreaking!
I just read the lyrics and 2 things stool put to me 1. The repeating of someone shouting "on the other side" I've watched many broadcasts of the attacks and most didn't realize the second was a plane because it was on the other side of the building (they did see the plane coming in on rerun after about 2 minutes" 2. "Do we conduct a search" was a common thought of first responders after because of how dangerous Ground Zero was.
I'll try to be brief, but this is one of the weirdest things that has ever happened to me, and still haunts me now and then. I was working in an office in a small town in New York State. There were women and men in the same office but in 2 different areas. There was a young woman working there who was pretty and nice. I was nearly 30 years her senior. We would say "hi" in the hallway but didn't generally have any contact with each other. One day, out of the blue this young woman came to my desk and asked me if I would go to lunch with her. I was confused but I said "sure". My mind was racing all morning trying to figure out what this was all about. We agreed on a place to have lunch where we could talk. During lunch she told me about a new job she had taken and how exited she was about it. Her new job was in one of the W.T.C. buildings. I congratulated her and she told me about the job, but we never talked about why she had chosen me to confide in about this, as we were basically strangers to each other. We finished lunch and drove back to our office where we told each other how enjoyable our lunch together was, then went back to our work places. I didn't see her again before she left on her new journey. The next time I heard her name was when the tally of names of the dead was announced. I still have no idea why our encounter happened. Why did she choose me to confide in? I can't figure it out and have never told anyone about it before now, thinking no one would believe me.

Owned a music store during this time period. The morning of Tuesday 9/11 2001 I put out the new releases including the Dream Theater release. (Tuesday was new release day at the time.) We opened at 10 AM and got a phone call to turn on the T.V. that a plane had hit the world trade center. As we watched in disbelief I told my partner about that Dream Theater release I had put out just an hour earlier. We pulled them off the shelf immediately. Still get chills thinking about that to this day. Unbelievable.

It’s worth noting that a lot of the depictions of the Twin Towers being destroyed was also just a common trope of recognizable architectural icons like the Golden Gate Bridge, Great Wall of China, or Eiffel Tower being destroyed in movies. The Twins were destroyed in numerous movies, comics and cartoons throughout the late 20th century.
Of course looking back at it now would make those depictions of the Twin Towers exceptionally eerie.

I was so young when 9/11 happened that I can't really assimilate the towers as an american symbol, I can only associate them with the tragedy (and also I'm not american). When I think of an american symbol it's always the Liberty Statue that pops into my mind. In my lifetime I could only see what NYC skyline looked like with the towers, through old pictures. My final article for the university will be about 9/11 but I confess that it blows my mind to think of a world before it happened, it's hard to me to just conceive this different reality

As a citizen of the UK I've always found it eerie that the towers looked like an eleven and the emergency number in America is 911, and so many emergency workers were killed by this brutal act.

I also remember them performing it on David Letterman's show and when they came back after the break following the performance, they showed the NYC skyline with the WTC and a plane flying past the scene.
There's also the Ryan Adams song and music video New York New York which was shot in NYC about a week before 9/11 and you see him playing the song with the skyline in the background. The video obviously became a tribute and was shown on VH1 either later that month or the following month. If that wasn't enough, the album the song is from (Gold) has a shot of Ryan in front of an upside down American flag on the cover.

I expected to see Billy Joel's 1976 song "Miami 2017" as #1. It's a song about a dystopian world where NYC was demolished. It contains the lyrics "I've seen the lights go out on Broadway. I saw the Empire State laid low... I've seen the ruins at my feet...I watched the mighty skyline fall. The boats were waiting at the battery..." (As a NYer who was an adult and downtown on 9/11 those who ran south to the battery actually got on boats and were taken to NJ.) The song ends with this lyric, "There are not many who remember. I thought for sure the Explosions in the Sky record would be on here. It has a song called “The Plane Will Crash Tomorrow” (and a plane on the cover) and was rumored to have come out on September 10th. The label claims it actually came out September 4th but it’s easy to see the confusion as it’s not unusual for an album by a fairly obscure indie rock band to not arrive in record stores until a week later. And FWIW, it’s hard to see things like The Coop’s album cover being a true coincidence. A few years before, the World Trade Organization (WTO) had a conference in Seattle that resulted in massive protests. Although the WTO and WTC weren’t overtly connected (as far as I know), they certainly represented a brand of capitalism that is-to say the least-very problematic. In a way, it was targeted on 9/11 for the same reason a lot of artists despised it.
I also expected it here. The album was released on 9/4/2001 (the 10th is not true); titled Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell the Truth Shall Live Forever. The cover features a dark plane (biplane, though) shining a spotlight down on an angel which appears to be flying and praying over what appears to be a line of people armed with rifles. The image is reminiscent of WW2. The liner notes included another plane image and the sentence "This plane will crash tomorrow." It's not a song.
Track 1 is titled Greet Death; the last track is titled "With Tired Eyes, Tired Minds, Tired Souls, We Slept"
The songs are pretty typical of this early era in post-rock: mostly instrumental, utilizes a few vocal samples from other media, and built around periods of gentle brooding rising to energetic climaxes. It's easy to retro-fit the album into the the crisis of the day.

A very eerie coincidence that I've always found fascinating is within the videoclip of Mylène Farmer's "L'Instant X" ("The X Moment"), a French song released in 1995… The song itself talks about the end of the World, and the music video was shot in NY: it opens with a wide shot of NYC's skyline (including the WTC). The MV depicts a weird white foam overtaking NYC… it's such a weird mix of elements it gives me chills

There was definitely something eery in the air that day. I live in Belgium Europe and I remember waking up that morning with a very nauseating and bad feeling like there was doom in the air. We have a 6 hours time difference with New York so it was still 3 am in the morning there. Completely against what I normally do I put on the radio news at 4 in the afternoon (10 am NY time) and I heard the terrible news. I had to sit down and immediately felt that this was the cause of my extremely bad feeling that morning. I really had a premonition that day.
I was at work, but at home (Eastern Europe) - not quite so common back then. I did switch the TV on just a few minutes into the coverage, which I had NOT heard about otherwise, and that was NOT a real habit for me, and there was no particular reason. However, I had been editing a text on the growing assertiveness / aggression of anti-globalist G7 protests, and how they would soon prove uncontrollable. So when I switched on and began with what would be some hours of watching, I immediately put 2 and 2 together and made 5! I phoned a colleague a few minutes later, and immediately had the idea of Os**a planted in my head by that person. Ashamed (in a way) to say that name was unknown to me at that moment...

Regarding the whole "I am the World Trade Center" thing, it's kinda of an interesting story:
The duo chose their name because they were living in NYC at the time the band formed (1999), and, well, the World Trade Center was one of the most iconic things in NYC at the time.
Also, some crazy and unfortunate coincidence is that their only music video "Metro" had some angles where beams of light came out of buildings, which, well, kinda looked as if the buildings were exploding, so, yeah, there's that.
After the attacks, they received a lot of backlash, as people thought they were profiting off from the tragedy, so, they briefly changed their name to "I am The World...". They released two more albums (One in 2002 iirc and one last one in 2004). Kind of a really interesting and unfortunate story, in my opinion.

P.O.D.’s Satellite was released 9/11/01. My school had decided to ban teachers from talking about or showing footage of the attacks. Sure enough it had spread through word of mouth. So, my first visuals were a wall of big screens at Walmart while purchasing that album as a 16 year old

Can remember the name of the song, but John Denver (yep, going way back) had a song that talks about the towers falling.
Tori Amos wrote the song "I can't see New York" three months prior to the 9/11 attacks. It was released on the 03' album Scarlets Walk. Interpret it as you wish, but the lyrics are both haunting and heartbreaking!
I just read the lyrics and 2 things stool put to me
1. The repeating of someone shouting "on the other side" I've watched many broadcasts of the attacks and most didn't realize the second was a plane because it was on the other side of the building (they did see the plane coming in on rerun after about 2 minutes"
2. "Do we conduct a search" was a common thought of first responders after because of how dangerous Ground Zero was.
