    I was the former Director of Education and Public Relations for "Save Ontario Shipwrecks" (SOS) established to study, protect and preserve the marine heritage of the Province of Ontario, Canada. SOS worked hand-in-hand with the Ontario Ministry of Citizenship and Culture, Submerged Cultural Resources division on several hundred Ontario shipwrecks and other submerged sites such as the Drowned Villages, hydro dams and early canal locks of Ingleside, Ontario submerged by the development of the St.Lawrence Seaway.
    Some members (including myself) of SOS worked also worked closely with Parks Canada Underwater Archaeological Unit under Robert Grenier, its chief, designed and taught non disturbance underwater archaeological courses and took similiar advanced underwater training with the Nautical Archaeological Society (NAS) and the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) for the Bermuda Underwater Club and several other underwater and marine heritage societies and maritime museums.
    SOS members guest lectured on shipwreck heritage in many underwater conventions and special scientific underwater events nationally and internationally.

    For the "USA bashers" dissing the video for being USA centric, "only saving relics of "America's past"", etc, the video was produced by NOAA and concerns wreck preservation on the US side of the border. If Environment Canada has made a similar video I'm certain we would all love to see it...

    3:30 Yeah, you guys didnt win. Nor did we really. It was a stupid stalemate that ended in, effectivlely, a draw. Then again, the fact that we successfully repelled an invasion could technically mean we (Canadians) won, but I aint getting into anything that could rustle people. To put it this way, that was over 2 centuries ago. I love our brothers to the south.

      Yes how silly to argue this. The war proved two things - the US could not conquer Canada and the British could not reconquer the US. This we have had a peaceful border for over 200 hundred years longer than any other two bordering countries in history because we were wise we enough to learn that lesson.

    Where's the proof glaciers carved out the lakes? Glaciers form in mountain valleys even if this area was covered in ice hundreds of feet thick thousands of years ago. Where is impetus for the motion to crarve out the great lakes? Gravity moves glaciers but are huge lakes created? Where is the mass of earth and rock moved away to form the great lakes?

    Hahaha! At 13:46 the captain orders the vessel to turn to port but the graphic shows the vessel making a starboard turn. Who edits Nova? A lard assed lan lubbing knuckle headed historian. .

    • @Dave-id6sj
      @Dave-id6sj 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Traditionally orders and references to the helm were referred to the tiller and not to the rudder and that is the way it still is on most small sailboats. "Helm hard to starboard" means the tiller is to starboard which means the rudder is to port and the ship will be turning to port. Even after ships had steering wheels or other mechanical means of handling the tiller the orders and other references always referred to the tiller. To turn the tiller to starboard the wheel is turned to port so there is no contradiction. So in answer to your question, the people at Nova are not lard assed knuckle headed historians, they are people who know what the procedure and terminology was back then. The only knuckle head, or should I say fuck knuckle is you. Fucking moron, haven't you ever heard of Googling to check something before you comment and confirm what people already suspect, that you are an idiot?

      Not to brag but I'm a retired Master upon Oceans. Old pic real name. Your mundane juvenile response is indicative of a petulent snotnosed child or did you suffer a lack of oxygen during birth.. Eff you's are not even a witty retort on a schoolyard. They are only an reflection of antagonistic low intelligence and show a distinct lack of control and an awareness of common cordial civility. They are usually displayed by the most craven of cowardly keyboard warriors. Thus far you've only proven an ability to run a mouth from a gutter and that bestows no special expertise in nautical matters or even in the dubious debate you've offered me. Perhaps your skill maneuvering floating toys in an enameled containment has inflated your ego and sense of proportion concerning actions of mariners on the Great Lakes. Take note.
      Tub Admirals should refain from dispensing nautical advice until they can find their ass with either hand in a heavy fog with or without a radar and from operating any kind of mechanical propulsion systems on open waters anywhere.Which is what this presentation is all about. My sincere apologies for rubbing your runny nose in that fact. However you'll be perfectly safe hurling your pathetic insults from a swingset, under your mother's supervision of course, provided you wear a diaper to contain the kind of duplicious stinking mess you've left here in comments.
      To conclude this voyage...if my jest of mistakes made by others unbalanced you that much then you should definitely consider guidance, not from Bowditch, but from professionals in the field of psychiatry and get control of your immature emotional state. The course you have plotted will only lead to being strapped to a bed receiving an infusion of meds. Now get lost SISSY!

    I don't get it. The point of archeology is to find out information previously unknown by means of digging artifacts out of the ground or sea/lake beds.
    All of these ships are less than 200 years old, many of the ship plans are available. What is there to learn here? Like the Titanic fever people have, there is nothing to learn here. We know all we need to about the very recent past, ships of this age are still in existence in museums, detailed plans are available.
