From a retired 1st responder, from America (N.J.) your videos are so informative of a job that I knew very little of, so great respect for you and your mates. I know they're automated now but, I can only imagine how many lives you guys saved with your heroic work. Well done, Peter !
Thank you Carlos, but big respect to you and guys and gals like you, our job was nothing compared to what you all have done, thanks for being there when people need you the most. Take care Mate and stay safe. Cheers
@@tonykennedy6161 Hi Tony, yes he was doing extra duty over Christmas but he was Pk from his own station which was St Catherines. Gerry was the Needles PK, cheers.
Presents him self really well, he knew his days were numbered yet didn’t let it grind him down. Be really nice to bump into him on the island one day, like a second home I’m there so much. Having watched all your vids. The one thing that has stood out and like Ralph said more and more people at sea, and less and less observing it
Thanks Minty, Yes Ralph did a great interview and yes again if you are wanting to be rescued at sea by the coastguards etc around our coasts then it may have to be during office hours Lol, stay safe
Another top film, what great foresight to interview other keepers, their memories will be around forever now ..... incidentally, I wonder why he wasn’t keen on a posting at The Lizard ?
Thankyou very much for this video. My father was a Royal Navy Officer during WWII. And he said the first thing you saw on your return from a tough trip, was " The Light". But he never said, "Whether it was lit or not" ? Kind regards, and greetings from Africa.
Thank you David for that and yes I bet your Father seeing a Lighthouse from "Home" after a tough Wartime trip must have been special. Thanks again, take care and stay safe.
Ah, I remember Ralph from your superb 2 part Needles video last year. Assume he was just helping out over that Christmas period i.e. would already have been at St Catherines.
Another Fascinating video Peter! Really Interesting about the “Baptism” I would have been petrified! It fascinates me the way of living in a lighthouse and job roles. Really enjoyed watching it! Very good interview. Thank you so much 👏👍
Thank You Lisa for your kind comments, always appreciated. Ralph is one of the "Good Guy's" and a Friend. He certainly had some great experiences and was a joy to interview. Stay safe, cheers.
Thank you for that. I think that it was basically next in line got the job but I did here that during the last years of the Keeper that it may have been done on merit on at least one occasion, ( this I got 3rd hand, so may or may not be true) but it definitely used to be dead mans shoes! cheers, stay safe.
@@PeterHalil Good to see Ralph again. Promotion on merit was introduced in 1989, candidates had to go in front of a promotion board in London and it was only done on that one occasion, the last PK appointments. PK's after that date would have been temporary appointments. I think Ralph was made up to PK then. You are correct it was dead man's shoes prior to 1989.
@@PHAROS23 Hi Pete, Nice to hear from you again, hope all is well with you and Family. I served with Ralphy and he was great to work with and a great friend. I've had to slow up the release of videos to once a fortnight now as I'm fast running out of them. Still a few Months worth or so left though, hopefully once out of this craziness I will finally get to the Lights that I missed. Take care, cheers.
Hi Gary, We pretty much wore what we liked unless we were dealing with the public or our bosses from Trinity House, but we were supplied with work clothes which most of us wore anyway when we were doing dirty jobs. Cheers and stay safe

Such a lovely chap, everyone liked Ralph.
Really enjoyable to hear these Life stories. Thanks again Peter.
Thanks Tommy, glad you like them, more to come, cheers and stay safe.
Its great you did all this filming as it is almost all lost for ever now.
Thank you for that, much appreciated. I'm very glad that I did it too as it's kept me busy during our many Covid "Lockdowns"! Cheers, stay safe.
Hi Peter, is this the guy you done the Christmas video with ? He was the pk think yee were on the needles?
@@tonykennedy6161 Hi Tony, yes he was doing extra duty over Christmas but he was Pk from his own station which was St Catherines. Gerry was the Needles PK, cheers.

Excellent Video, thank you Peter.

Thank you Geoff I'm glad you like them, stay safe.

Hi Brad, No idea other than maybe it was a long way to travel from the Isle of Wight, stay safe.
Another interesting vlog Peter thanks 😁👍👏👏👏

Lovely guy. Great description of Eddystone - crockery rattling in the cupboards 😬😬😬
Cheers Matt, I liked the fact that he more or less slept with his feet in the cupboard LOL. Take care

Thanks Paul, Yes Ralph and I were the only 2 that weren't on our proper station on that Christmas video. Stay safe.

Another great video Peter. One thing I’ve wondered, what were the requirements to be made up to PK from AK?

Peter, did you have to wear a uniform while on the lighthouse or could you wear your own clothes? Thanks
