You have no idea how long I've been searching for some thorough servicing instructional videos for my LDV convoy which has that same engine. Everyone thinks it's either a banana or a duratorq, but it's a mk5 transit in disguise! Thank you so much!
Great videos for us Mk5 newbies. Just done cam belt. Couple of points for other viewers.. don’t forget to slacken off the 4 fuel pump sprocket bolts to allow perfect belt tooth alignment and I decided to fit a new belt autotensioner. Just a single bolt fixing and easy to see if you have all the slack out of the belt.
paul woolacott cheers mste... I'll do more as I'm going to change cambelt next. Bit more welding on rear x member. If you want anything in particular filmed on the old mk5 let me know and I'll see what I can do ...👍
great videos, looking at tackling the valves myself..just a little confused over your method and the Haines method.. they suggest adjusting when certain valves are fully open, not when they are rocking..eg..valves 1 nd 6 open, adjust 4 and 7..can you clarify, cheers
Hi great video help me a lot as I have a old 1995 transit 2.5di just thought I ask if you know if they have a pcv valve as I got white smoke on start up so would like to check it out hope you can help kind regards rigsby.
Hello, i have a problem with the same van, i cant locate the glow plugs. are they in the main air inlet big metal tubes that go over the injectors? Thanks for the video
@@paphotography5183 ok, i thought it had something that would heat up the mixture so it would start up more easy. I asked cause im having some problem starting up mine (turbo diesel 2.5, 1998), not everytime, and its summer so the weather isn't cold. Its like before it would start up just right after turning the key, and now sometimes its like for 2/3seconds it has some difficulty to keep going to get really turning normally. the other day it wouldnt even start up , and then when tried to bleed the fuel circuit, it started up. Theres no fuel leaks, anywhere i can see, theres no problem cruising, its really just starting up. The battery seems ok, and its not necessarilythe first start up of the day, but usually after i roll some time and i make a stop for an hour or two, then it has a problem starting up, so i really dont know what is going on. If you have any idea what might be.. thanks
@@tiagomartins36 Sounds like you may have an air leak. Firstly check all the leak off pipes as they can cause an air leak. The fuel filter housing is also worth a check. Try replacing the fuel filter. Defiantly sounds like air in fuel. I've made copper leak off pipes on mine as the mice kept eating the pipe work. Used brake pipe as leak off pipe. Good luck..
wow is the van rely worth it,well it would be for me my van is my pride and joy even with its bit of rust, the last mot said that all the places where they suffer had been done, but im gonna hold my breath this time lol
paul woolacott Hi Paul, will it worth it to the MRS..she bought it has the horse box bit on the back is worth a few thousand. I get paid in cups of tea and sandwiches lol.. Plus my welding has improved greatly. .☺☺
Hi, thanks for the video, just what i was looking for dont know if you will answer me but i have just bought a old 1995 swb transit with the 2.5 di engine and it has only done 42k miles from new own buy a church from new can you let me know if cambelt should be change yet if so how much would it cost averge thanks rigsby i am now going to watch your vids again kind regards rigsby.
Hi mate. Glad the videos are some help to you. Those good old di engines will go on forever. In regards to your question I would change the belt. Age will effect the condition of the belt. Generally when the belt breaks on them old girls it tends to bend the pushrods. Cost to replace the belt as a service should be around £200 ish. ( prices vary through out the country). However if the belt breaks then it will be more.
Great simple engineering on mk5 now some idiot at ford has decided a wet timing belt is the way to go with the results of massive amount of engine failures 😢
Can u tell me the correct oul to use ive been given 5/30 full symphetic .europarts ..but ive been told its wrong n 10/40 semi symphetic .is this correct please can u help also gearbox oil which one
Hi mate regards to the oil I used high mileage 10 40 semi as this was best for the type of engine. To be honest these old banana engines run great on gastrol magnetic .. these engines were around in the late 80s and ninetys and back then they ran on mineral oil.
@@paphotography5183 thanku .i was given 5/30 fully symphetic .tripple x .which now ive got 10/40 semi symthetic etc .becausd i dont have reg as the engine is in an old bedford campervan .etc .thanku .dont suppose u know which gear oil also .
i think mine has engine management no throttle cable fly by wire and engine management light mines not the banana engine, dont no what it is other than 2.5 turbo diesel but runs rely nice
paul woolacott hi Paul, I rekon at least 2k labour before parts. When you think a garage charge about 60 quid for a patch on a sill or chassis. I have spent just under 1k on parts and materials, that includes welding wire and gas. I've also got new headlamps and bumper to go on, so hopefully in a few weeks you will see it finished. Time is a problem as I'm in full time employment and also the Devon weather can be a tad on the wet side..

Michael Langley .... Hi, the mileage is about 160,000. Runs very sweet now....Just a bit more welding to do... with that really cool welder..😎
