That was a beautiful video, especially being a seasoned duck hunter and knowing the feeling that your duck call is a part of you. Making your own call makes it that much more a part of you
Thanks for sharing that! When you look at the amount of work that goes into one call, it makes you appreciate just how cheap they are by comparison! Quite fancy trying my hand at making one eventually!
Sadly Wayne passed away a few months ago on November 17th 2022, if you have questions you can reach out to me and I'll connect you with my brother Chris Betts. Thanks for watching my dad's video ❤️🦆
I don't use a rough cut gouge because I learned to turn calls on my own. I made a tool that worked good for me. And it seems to be doing the job for many many years now. Thanks for asking.
absolutely nothing wrong with using a scraper type tool to rough, turn or shape with. I use it on acrylics so a hard wood like bodark or cocobolo would be the same.
Hello: I love this video and its music. The caller of ducks is very nice. I try to make a ringtone of crows, and if I get to do but not how it sounds. I think the secret is in the nozzle. Could you help me with this? Many Thanks from Spain!
I hate to answer in his place but down south we use osage orange (bodark) to make fence posts with. He probably got his wood from a post (I think he noted he got some wood that way). Over the years bodark will darken from age, weather and degradation from sunlight, as well as soaking in minerals from the ground. This is why it is darker on the outside and tends to stay that yellow/light orange color on the inside
Do you machine your jig for the inserts or can they be bought from some where I want to turn my own but have no clue how other than free hand the insert wich is not very good idea
michael treasure jr I don't know about tapered mandrels but I use a expanding mandrel and it works better you can get inside the call a lot better to put a finish on the inside and to round out the mouthpiece I get my mandrel on eBay but you can get them on Web foot calls or echo calls
Any wood pal. Almost any material, they aren't like tone calls where you need a certain wood to produce sound, these work from air so the material they are made from matters very little.
Good morning, I want to call a duck ducks Khudhairi Albulpol His long badminton ducks summer and winter deletion . I want to shop sells I liked the video of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Cut the music out and turn up the volume on the vocals. The music really drowns out the speaking that is already really quiet. I couldn't understand what you were saying.
+brandon puckett A custom wood call sale between $75.00 to a few hundred depending on what you want. @ Standard hedge call will sale for around $80.00.. Thanks!

Osage Orange! Awesome! One of my first calls. They turn real dark though. Thanks for sharing!

any particular reason you don't use a rough cut gouge when rounding it out? also, what all were you using to sand with?
Hello Mr Betts I have a question. Do you stain the insert before add the cork and Reed? Do you tune it then stain? I never understood.
Thanks for the detailed video! Did you buy, or make the fixture for cutting/sanding the insert?
Все показано очень доступно . Красиво сделано и звучит классно.
