Rick Dunn, owner of Echo Calls in Arkansas started that at least 25 years ago, That's on about the first one of his old videos I saw.

Nice video. Enjoyed watching the whole process. Good choice with the music, also. Keep them coming!

If you read this did you put rubber rings in the 2 grooves that you made?

How did you sharpen the wrench to cut so smooth? Thanks

I used a grinding wheel to sharpen the short side of the open end of the wrench.

At the beginning of the video what was holding the block on the spinning side and is that a wen wood lathe

The wood is mounted on the lathe with an expanding mandrel inserted in a collet chuck. And, yes, this is a WEN mini lathe.

How do you cut the insert to actually make it functional with reeds? A duck call isn't just a straight insert like that.

You’re right, Travis. There’s more to making the insert than what I typically show in the videos. I need to make a video showing the rest of the process. But, basically it involves putting the insert into a jig that I use to cut the curve of the toneboard. Then I remove the insert from the jig and fine tune the shape of the toneboard with sandpaper. The reed and cork are then cut to size and then the call is fine tuned to the desired sound. There’s a lot that goes into cutting and tuning an insert. And, not everyone does it the same way. Most folks consider the process top secret since it can literally take years to perfect.

@@bayoulegacy thanks for the knowledge. Just got into making blanks, and turning barrels. Next step is learning the insert of it all. Which is really 80% of the call.
