@@JordiumZ Almost feels like the series is just Fates, 3H and Engage these days, along with something called Awakening that saved the series but it apparently just disappeared afterwards...
@Taktaagic I feel the same, it's kind of a tradition for me at this point to play Conquest every once in a couple months just because its gameplay is soooo good, and chapter 10 is definitely one of my favorite chapters and this video explains why very well
Chapter 10 is such a perfect difficulty fair but challenging af, this map forces you to think the entire map, what normally doesnt happen with mist maps especially defend maps
What I love about chapter 10, is it encompasses the sink or swim learning conquest provides If you hadn’t figured out the mechanics or understand- You will now Tonics, meals, paying attention to enemy stats and needed thresholds, mindfulness of unit placement, attack stance vs guard stance, all vital to successfully completing Chapter 10 You cannot bullshit your way through conquest (ignoring Phoenix mode) you will learn the mechanics Playing conquest completely changed how I played fire emblem. I was a casual, didn’t care for checking enemy stats and just attacked. But you can’t do that in Conquest. I had to learn, to get better, or I’m stuck And I did learn! Playing conquest led me to revisit fire emblem games I’ve played before in harder difficulties- It opened my eyes to just how much depth fire emblem has! It isn’t just anime chess pieces, but a complex web of decisions and strategies. Love you Conquest
Revisted conquest hard on deployment this past month or so and it's honestly still just so amazing. Fates is a technical masterpiece (we will never get a UI that good ever again) and conquest complements it with peak map design and even manages to have endearing writing via supports, in spite of the narrative itself.
@@okbutwhatif9905 The UI was amazing, extremely practical, and it made great use of the system it was on. I have a hard time formulating any complaints about it
Conquest as a whole was the first Fire Emblem game in a long while to test my patience and my sanity, and it was great. I felt like a real strategist when I FINALLY beat the game
The thing I love about playing this map is Even with different rosters (romhacks yay) you can still use the principles of the map A strong cavalier with Corrin backpack can solo most of the bottom right, usually your backup can handle either the top right or top left You can fly over someone on turn 1 to the left to drop someone Bows + lance dual strikes destroy the ninjas And on lunatic some more enemies are added! It’s a really good map
I think playing CH10 on a Conquest randomizer has made me enjoy and master this one map even more. If you have a flier and a pretty fast unit with decent strength or magic, you can fly them over past the wall to the top left and take down two Oni Savages on the first turn. Then, if you were ballsy enough to separate the flier and the fast smashing unit, you can then FLY BACK to the bottom left to help take down two ninjas and two spear masters. And when you don't have those two units? The map still leaves room for you to work and figure out your best strategy. Because Camilla and her retainers come the third turn, which is before the wall has taken down in Hard, you can probably fly her over and take care of the left side which, might I add, will be refreshed with reinforcements in a turn or two. Basically, wow is this map fun to play. Even when modded, this map still gives you opportunities to experiment.
just finished this chapter on lunatic for the 2nd time now, it truly never gets old! I'm looking forward to this map again on my future run using only captured generics, it should be fun XD
I first started this chapter at about quarter to 1 in the morning one night, and by the time I beat it it was 3.19am, but I had no regrets. I also kept the copy I made of my save file so I could go back and play it whenever I wanted. Such a thrilling chapter.
I did this chapter on Lunatic not long ago and it was really fun despite many retries. I had lost Niles earlier and never trained Mozu so I had no archer which complicated things, but I did reclass Jakob into strategist (I know, bad choice, but it helped a lot with healing and 2 range). In the end I beat it, defeated both Oboro and Hinata but lost Beruka sadly.
Some of my favorite maps in fates were the children realms, the infinity stairs, and the (luzuzu?) mansion where both armies meet eachother in the neutral land mansion
It’s a great map, I did a whole run of 0% Growths on Lunatic where the goal is to use the lamest strats possible to trivialize the game. Chapter 10 still ended up being the most interesting map by far (it’s on my channel). The requirements to beat this map are actually very low but it requires a lot of knowledge and prep to make up for low resources spent
This chapter can be kind of easily beaten in extreme if you pair up Corrin with Silas (due to their +X damage done and -X damage received personal skills) and Rush to kill takumi after defeating Hinata. Edit: this doesn't mean this chapter is badly structured. I still think it is one of the best fe maps. And also my congratulations to the creator of the video for giving such a good in depth explanation of the viable strategies in this map.
I understand why peoples say chapter 10 is harder than 23, at the point you reach chapter 23 we might have a super physical tank (For me it was Effie) and others nukes to finish any possible threath. Why on chapter 10 you have a list of unit that mostly cannot change and in most case (as i was) no really maxed unit for the map. Other than that the map sure is brilliant, punishing if trying to defend only and rushing forward only let the reinforsment get the easy win. Amazing video too,
Every Takumi map has you in for a ride. Chapter 10 is... this video. Chapter 13 is a slaughter-fest where there are multiple minibosses with their own squads to protect them, while outlaws creep their way to destroy the villages. Chapter 23 is a very difficult wall climb where you’re being attacked from everywhere. Endgame is the final sprint to the end of a hallway to end this guy once and for all, filled with enemies designed to sap your resources. The game would not be the same without everyone’s favorite archer to blame.
I still remember when I beat the map on my blind Lunatic run at like 1 am without casualties. Felt really good and the map was fun, like pretty much all of Conquest (save for duds like Eternal Stairway and ridiculous Endgame).
This chapter also did a lot to make me really like Takumi as an antagonist. This video alone got me thinking about "You betrayed your family... and Hoshido!"
I refuse to buy the special edition for $500 (near me) or buy the incomplete games separately...so for now I sail the high seas until Nintendo makes these games available for purchase on modern hardware. Btw, chapter 10 really is a masterpiece.
There are some online shops that are selling the Fates games at 30-40 dollars. Not the worst, but if taking the risk on that doesn’t sound too good, there’s always some good ol emulation.
Probably one of the best defense maps i've ever played in a strategy game. I keep a save file reserved specifically so i can replay this one chapter. Great design, perfect execution of mechanics, incredible player inventives from the villages, and of course, one of my favorite map themes in Dark Wastes. Perfection.
Other great maps are Radiant Dawn 2-E, Thracia chapter 14, Thracia chapter 4 to 7, Sacred Stones chapter 10 Ephraim, etc... most fun maps are defend/survive/escape maps
In my last playthrough in which my purpouse was to use all awakening characters in conquest I lost Selena in the last freaking turn, like she died, then the victory screen was shown. I had to redo the chapter but it was fun.
Yes this chapter stood out to me! So much fun and not just a wave of mobs like in birthright or cheesy skill spams like later in conquest. You had to use everyone even arthur :( but that sense to do better after you finish is so relatable!
This is the kind of map that someone mentions and you go "Oh THAT one." Haven't played fates since maybe a year after launch, but I saw ONE screenshot and my memory flooded back. I hated this map as a kid. I appreciate it now, but man was this a nightmare when the extent of my unit evaluation skill was "gen 3 morgan go brr"
I managed to clear this map without abusing Camilla or using Haitaka, but I misplaced a low hp Camilla on turn 10 because of my stick drifting and had to use rescue to save her. Safe to say this chapter left a mark
Ah, yes. Chapter 10 of Fire Emblem Fates Conquest. One of the most divisive and controversial chapters in all of Fire Emblem. You either love this chapter for being a real challenge and creative map design, or you despise this chapter for being an extreme case of difficulty spike where one wrong move will result in a snowball effect, causing you to reset the game over, and over, and over again! There's no in between.
Chapter 10 in Conquest is my 2nd favorite map in the entire series, and I've played every game except for the originals when a remake exists (i.e. I haven't played Mystery of the Emblem when New Mystery exists, or haven't played Gaiden when Echoes exists) My 1st favorite map overall is Chapter 14 of Thracia 776, the first Defend map in the series, and I think Chapter 10 Conquest borrowed a lot from that Thracia map. You get heavily rewarded for being aggressive (there's a village that you want to bring a specific Wyvern unit to for a reward, but you're being besieged by ballistae that are effective against fliers). Thracia is a hard game, though. And it has some really dumb maps, so fair warning to anyone who wants to try it. Its maps are either really good or really terrible.
I played Fire Emblem Fates for the first time blind last week. WHY DID NOBODY PREPARE ME FOR THIS IT WAS TORTURE. WHY WAS IT THE MOST FUN TORTURE OF MY LIFE (I love Fates)
Recently played through Fates for the first time. No map in Birthright could prepare me for the annihilation that was my first attempt of Conquest Chapter 10 in hard. Not even Awakening could prepare me for that lol
That's because birthright and awakening have The same type of maps, where there îs a wide open map with a bunch of enemies placed randomly and the objective îs to route everyone. Conquest has variety with different gimmicks, map objectives like defend, seize or escape, turn limits, and even The route maps are well designed and forces you to use different strategies and to keep up the pace.
I fucking adore fire emblem conquest. Terrible story, one note characters (can still be enjoyable) but good god that gameplay and map design is PERFECTION.
As a casual who was playing this game for the first time, I freaking hated this map. I didn't understand that the game DIDN'T want me to Turtle, it's a defensive map that I was playing for the first time. Because of that, it resulted in one of my only Game Overs in the game, and I was super frustrated. I didn't understand the level of freedom I had, I thought I was limited in what I could and couldn't do. It left a super sour taste in my mouth because of how everything seemed to go wrong, and I wasn't able to see what it had to offer. I'm glad that you were able to find joy in this chapter, but Younger Me will still hold a vendetta against it until I finally replay the game (which may not happen for quite a while).
I acknowledge that fates, very specifically conquest, has the best gameplay, and I loved conquest chapter 10, I can never go back into it though because the story and characters always drive me away. Never even fully beat conquest or revelations
I saw the thumbnail and immediately knew the exact map. I knew the exact scene but even if I didn't, seeing Fates would tell me it was this map anyway. It's so tightly-balanced that Lunatic's changes to the map compared to Hard are very small; most enemies don't even get stat increases. Actively spreading out your army instead of turtling is also just easier in chapter 10 because you have way more options; turtling leaves you less able to choose which enemies your units engage with in combat and this will generally just make you die. I think you're underrating the bulk you can work with for this map; Beruka suffers from no tonics here but can still tank a couple hits, Odin with tonics and nosferatu can destroy the entire left-hand side, Silas gets frankly absurd damage and bulk thanks to his personal, and various characters like Elise, Nyx, Effie, or Selena can do early reclasses or promotions to get giant performance boosts. Your bulk never gets high enough to trivialize the map, but you can actually do a fair bit of enemy phase combat. Also, I will not accept this Arthur slander. He is a bad unit, but a good guy. Takumi's border wall also isn't the hardest map in the game, it is hard, but after each area you can generally take a breather and recombine. No cheese Ryoma or endgame are standouts as well, though those have much more dramatic difficulty increases from Lunatic as well.
@@KtheSongbird The main characters aren’t great (especially Azura), and the good side characters that are there get pushed to the side (as usual for FE). Support conversations are your best bet and they don’t have a shining success rate either.
imma be real, chapter 10 was what initialy made me quit the game... i didn't know anything about fe and was playing on classic with many lost units. the map was legit impossible and extremely fustrating with the waves of enemies this map made me had to restart the game and left a permanent scar in my head so now i never let a single unit die in any game on any condition
i recently replayed conquest and i gotta say kinda disagree with the end statement the story was not that bad its been years since i read it last so doing it again i can at least say its far better then engage at least since i at least enjoy a lot of the fates characters to some extent fates story is really over hated
Great point unfortunately you just praised Fire Emblem Fates but lucky you it's Conquest so we can still acknowledge you as Fire Emblem fan. But to be Fair this map was really memorable when I first played it back then since I tried turtleing and it really faild miserable.
Wonderful video but I will not stand for this pitbull slander. Pitbulls are very gentle dogs and are just as safe to leave around children as any other breed of dog.

This map was super easy (i played on phoenix and didn't pay attention to the game like at all because i loaned it from a friend and it's fates)
this place is too difficult to defend due being open offensive is the only way out without likely casualties
chapter 23 hard?
I just flew xander and corrin up alongside camilla and a leveled up Beruka and that wall was history.
imma be real, chapter 10 was what initialy made me quit the game...
i didn't know anything about fe and was playing on classic with many lost units. the map was legit impossible and extremely fustrating with the waves of enemies
this map made me had to restart the game and left a permanent scar in my head so now i never let a single unit die in any game on any condition
Skill issue
yep
Hard ? You mean lunatic right?
Tryharders when they find out that someone can have fun on lower difficulties.
conquest fans explaining why all the maps are good
(chapters 19-21 not included)
BASED FATES CONTENT
i recently replayed conquest and i gotta say kinda disagree with the end statement the story was not that bad its been years since i read it last so doing it again i can at least say its far better then engage at least since i at least enjoy a lot of the fates characters to some extent fates story is really over hated
lunatic instead of hard tho
Great point unfortunately you just praised Fire Emblem Fates but lucky you it's Conquest so we can still acknowledge you as Fire Emblem fan.
But to be Fair this map was really memorable when I first played it back then since I tried turtleing and it really faild miserable.
I hate this Fire Emblem, actually
Imagine liking Fire Emblem when the superior EasyTech MOBILE GAME exists.
Nah I'm good. Play Radiant Dawn and Elincia's Gambit instead.
The one where you can win by putting haar în a chokepoint? Nah thanks, I Will stick with chapter 10 conquest, it at least has variety
2-E isn’t even the best defend map in Radiant Dawn.
What a wonderfully designed map for a terribly written game
Wonderful video but I will not stand for this pitbull slander. Pitbulls are very gentle dogs and are just as safe to leave around children as any other breed of dog.
Cope
on lunatic it's literally peak fire emblem
Recently played through Fates for the first time. No map in Birthright could prepare me for the annihilation that was my first attempt of Conquest Chapter 10 in hard. Not even Awakening could prepare me for that lol
