4 years later comment, but I have to say that to me Bioshock is easily the most overrated game of all time. And exactly because its so highly rated by both gamers and critics alike, yet to me it was never more than 7/10 or maybe 8/10 game at most. Just decent/good game, but nothing more than that to me. Personally I was never that impressed with its story, setting or gameplay. And yes I did play it shortly after it had came out in late 2007 or early 2008. I mean I often get puzzled looks/comments when I say that I value Half-Life games for example really high but not Bioshock since both can be seen as more "atmopsheric" shooters that dont have necessarily nonstop action like Call of Duty or Halo, but thats just how it is. I dont utterly dislike the game, I just never understood what people saw in it that made it so "amazing", to me its "moral choices" whether you wanted to kill or save little sisters meant absolutely nothing since I couldnt care less about them and its "story twist" was also something I didnt find anything special or shocking. The worst part was completely lackluster endings. After all it all ends in generic boss fight and then you have 2 possible different cutscenes depending on how you dealth with little sisters and neither of which was memorable or felt rewarding/special and which I forgot about in few days. So thats how the experience was for me with Bioshock. I can give the game credit for its visually unique (atleast at the time) setting, but otherwise its just good/decent game for me, nothing more and since most of critics/gaming community ranks it as one of the greatest games of all time, its on top my most overrated games list

That wet, dark desolate world where "junkies" roam around looking for their next fix. Plasmids were awesome as well. The freedom you had in how you fight was a highlight. You could pick up barrels using telekinesis and hurl them at an enemy standing in oil to ignite the area. So many cool interactions. Now Bioshock Infinite, I didn't like that much. All your issue with the original Bioshock I have with Infinite

Its clear that many who did score it that high, for them the story and characters and dialogue was also something that impressed them. So ye Bioshock will always be to me one of those mystries "why everyone liked this so much, but I just couldnt". As for Bioshock 2 and Infinite, I still havent played them to this day. I will eventually or atleast thats the plan, it will be interesting to see whether I'll find either of them more enjoyable than the first game.

Expanded on everything that made part so good. 2 didn't score as well because it's in Rapture so it didn't have that "new" feel to it but you can shoot guns and plasmids at the same time which is so much better. Ya never know, you may like Bioshock Infinite the most. Has the best story but as I've said, I've beaten game 3-4 times and coul8tell ya what the story is..

I mean its impossible to tell before hand what games really hit you hard that they become your favorites, what games surprise you and what you feel dont deserve all that praise. I can tell quite accurately from trailers/gameplay vids (if its not faked like Cyberpunk gameplay vids were before release) whether the game is something that could be appealing or just something that should be avoided (like Anthem, Evolve and No Man's Sky at its launch atleast), but sometimes the really praised titles dont just feel that amazing to me like Bioshock and then some less praised titles by critics like Lost Odyssey for example really hit me hard, as it did for many players, it seems like "cult classic" these days for the small fanbase it has. The problem I have these days and actually for almost 15 years now that there are just so many damn games and just not enough time, which is why Ive completely dropped from the train when it comes to new releases and the amount of backlog I have, so thats one reason why I havent still played either Bioshock 2 or Infinite, but ofc since I didnt think the first one was anything special also meant I was in no hurry to play the two other games

Could be best PS3 games as well.

I know, it's stupid how the 2013 version of a sports game that literally never changes (besides graphics and players you can use) scored higher than one of the greatest, most definitive, and critically acclaimed RPGs ever made.

+Rares Macovei i would never say Vanquish is one of the best games in xbox of all time. I bought it recently and played it (a loy). Even though i had a great time while it lasted, it does have some defects. Level design is quite repetitive, not all guns are as viable as others (at least in my opinion). Its story mode, the main atraction of the game, is short and the plot plain. It is quite a Hidden Gem, but it is not one of the best in the console. i didnt mention the online mode cause i did not play it

you're better off with nintendo because im the same too. The ps3/xbox 360 era and even the ps4/xboxone era have this issue in having very few games outside the fps genre because its so popular in the west. That being said ima stick with nintendo until i see some changes.

GTA V was the first game I tried on my boyfriends Xbox 360 and I loved it from the that moment on. It'll always be my favourite game!!! One thing I wish though was that there were more feminine looking games - there are female gamers out here who don't necessarily want an all-male (or sometimes a tomboy type of female) cast in camo shooting things and driving tanks. The Japanese have some amazing games, much more imaginative and they seem to keep in mind that there are females playing too!!! I don't have that many games yet, but I love Left 4 Dead, and I like driving games like Midnight Club LA, Forza Horizon and Need For Speed.

Most of the critic reviews for games like Battlefield and Borderlands 2 were paid off for more positive comments/focus. Even though the list isn't meant to be subjective, it certainly doesn't come off as objective. Many of these games don't even deserve to be on the list at all. Also, including user reviews for games like CoD? How is that an indicator of a fair score? In the process, so many great games have been left out.

Including major company scores such as IGN and Gamespot, assuming that they were included, would be the first mistake. I would start by not including these outlets for any impact on the score. As you said, there's no evidence to support whether they are untrustworthy, but when you analyze all of their scores, you'll discover that the flaws in the games are rarely touched on for major companies such as Activision, EA, Rockstar, and Ubisoft. For smaller developers and their games that deserve more praise, the flaws are clearly made more significant. I think even Bethesda may be involved in shady media ethics because Skyrim certainly had more flaws than most reviews cared to mention (e.g., horrible plotting and the same reused environments). That being said, I haven't played Fallout: New Vegas due to University, but I can't wait to! Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga, Assassins Creed II, Dragon Age Origins, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent are my favourites that never made it on here.

whatoplay I'm surprised Divinity II scored so low. It definitely deserves a higher score in my opinion, as does Operation Flaspoint. The difficulty probably explains the second one - people are used to unrealistic shooters. Assassin's Creed II and Double Agent weren't too far from the mark. Damn! How come Dragon Age: Origins wasn't on the list? Should be in the top ten with a score like that. If it's because the PlayScore wasn't done at the time of this video, then why was the video released in the first place?

I agreed with a lot of the list and am ok with everything except the lower rank of Saints row 4 ! Because if you compare it to what it was, which was GTA that focused on a mainlined serious criminal enterprise as opposed to the saint's territorial goofy fun story approach, what it became, and then in 4 all the open-world superhero powers and saving the world as opposed to being a detriment to society !!! I just feel that Saint's Row 4 and Saint's row Gat outta hell are way underrated if you tak into account how much it grew and how much more diverse and fun it is. It's like they made they're own genre that i wouldn't mind writing for if i knew how to get an interview !!! Other than that ... Great list !!!

+Rares Macovei i would never say Vanquish is one of the best games in xbox of all time. I bought it recently and played it (a loy). Even though i had a great time while it lasted, it does have some defects. Level design is quite repetitive, not all guns are as viable as others (at least in my opinion). Its story mode, the main atraction of the game, is short and the plot plain.
It is quite a Hidden Gem, but it is not one of the best in the console.

GTA V was the first game I tried on my boyfriends Xbox 360 and I loved it from the that moment on. It'll always be my favourite game!!! One thing I wish though was that there were more feminine looking games - there are female gamers out here who don't necessarily want an all-male (or sometimes a tomboy type of female) cast in camo shooting things and driving tanks. The Japanese have some amazing games, much more imaginative and they seem to keep in mind that there are females playing too!!!
I don't have that many games yet, but I love Left 4 Dead, and I like driving games like Midnight Club LA, Forza Horizon and Need For Speed.

Most of the critic reviews for games like Battlefield and Borderlands 2 were paid off for more positive comments/focus. Even though the list isn't meant to be subjective, it certainly doesn't come off as objective.
Many of these games don't even deserve to be on the list at all. Also, including user reviews for games like CoD? How is that an indicator of a fair score? In the process, so many great games have been left out.

Now..one gamer to another. I was surprised, too, that some of my favorite games didn't make it on the list -- Fallout: New Vegas, L4D and Super Meat Boy.

I know the attempt was meant to be as fair as possible, but my point is that both gamer and critic reviews are untrustworthy. Including major company scores such as IGN and Gamespot, assuming that they were included, would be the first mistake. I would start by not including these outlets for any impact on the score.
As you said, there's no evidence to support whether they are untrustworthy, but when you analyze all of their scores, you'll discover that the flaws in the games are rarely touched on for major companies such as Activision, EA, Rockstar, and Ubisoft. For smaller developers and their games that deserve more praise, the flaws are clearly made more significant. I think even Bethesda may be involved in shady media ethics because Skyrim certainly had more flaws than most reviews cared to mention (e.g., horrible plotting and the same reused environments).
That being said, I haven't played Fallout: New Vegas due to University, but I can't wait to! Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga, Assassins Creed II, Dragon Age Origins, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, and Splinter Cell: Double Agent are my favourites that never made it on here.

I'm surprised Divinity II scored so low. It definitely deserves a higher score in my opinion, as does Operation Flaspoint. The difficulty probably explains the second one - people are used to unrealistic shooters.

I agreed with a lot of the list and am ok with everything except the lower rank of Saints row 4 ! Because if you compare it to what it was, which was GTA that focused on a mainlined serious criminal enterprise as opposed to the saint's territorial goofy fun story approach, what it became, and then in 4 all the open-world superhero powers and saving the world as opposed to being a detriment to society !!! I just feel that Saint's Row 4 and Saint's row Gat outta hell are way underrated if you tak into account how much it grew and how much more diverse and fun it is. It's like they made they're own genre that i wouldn't mind writing for if i knew how to get an interview !!! Other than that ... Great list !!!
