Just something I noticed personally, it’s surprising just how earnest Luisa is in her intentions to protect Mirabel. During the part where she sings, “Give it to your sister and never wonder, if the same pressure would have pulled you under.” When she’s holding the small mirabel, there isn’t any anxiety or even any tension in her face that could suggest fear or anger towards the situation or mirabel. She just has this easy smile that says, “I got you sis.” And that’s all she really wants, she doesn’t want to be a hero she’s just a sister who wants to keep her family safe and feels she should be able to because she’s the strong one.
Encanto is a perfect example of Disney making a kids move for adults. The message is powerful enough for so many of us to just bawl through it and deal with our own traumas, while teaching our kids tools to work through and stop the things that caused our trauma.
I think an underrated line in this song is "line up the dominoes, a light wind blows" cuz it shows a full-on tornado knocking over the "dominoes," which to me aint just a "light wind." I think this is implying how Luisa deals with this large amount of pressure (the tornado) all the time, so what might seem "heavy" or hard for someone else is expected to be "light" or easy for her, and she's used to it. (this also implies literally in the sense of her powers)
Exactly!!! But also, symbolically, look at the "dominoes" and notice they are *magical doors* which is the cause of anxiety throughout the entire family.
@@dr.braxygilkeycruises1460 And the door is the only thing that she never handles the weight of. There are numerous points where she struggles under the weight of various things, but she always has a moment where she pushes through and lifts the thing for her family, even if it costs her. But from the moment her door appears to the moment the tornado blows it away, she's continuously struggling and barely able to keep her footing. Because the pressure of her gift is the greatest challenge of all
I love how you reflected on your daughter and saw similarities in your own family dynamics because that is what this movie is all about~ everyone’s powers actually personifies the roles that everyone is meant to individually play in order to help keep the family functional, but if left unchecked, unacknowledged, and unbalanced these gifts can become resentments and curses. Not everyone gets it and I love to see it when someone does 💫
Yes indeed!!! And, along those lines, this is why I believe Mirabel didn't get a gift, per se. If you look at the pictures on the wall of Abuela Alma standing next to each child as they receive their door, with Isabel (the first grandchild to get a gift), Abuela looks like a regular Proud Grandma with her nieta (granddaughter). Pero, after that, she looks more stern with each one. Dolores, Luisa, Camilo. By the time Mirabel was old enough, the Miracle Candle knew the very foundation of WHY it blessed the Family Madrigal with the gifts had crumbled. So when Mirabel touched the door knob, it disappeared because That Wasn't Her Door! SHE was to be the new foundation of the Family; the reason it returned to being a real family and not just people borderline idol worshipping their gifts.
The fact that you sat, and thought about you eldest daughter..that was really special to me. This song definitely made me appreciate all that my older sister deals with, and does for myself and the family. It’s important to have that perspective, and I respect you for thinking of her when you heard this song.
Every singe lyric in this song is perfection, but near the ending “GIVE IT TO YOUR SISTER AND NEVER WONDER IF THE SAME PRESSURE WOULD’VE PULLED YOU UNDER.” Damnnn
I love how deep she sings and she keeps getting higher. She's sharing, releasing the burden, and becoming lighter. There's ALWAYS follow through. Once you let go, you have to have guidance to take the next step in growth
I watch these reactions for two reasons: 1) As it being an excuse for me to watch these clips again; 2) It is surprisingly comforting to see someone else appreciating something I, myself, appreciate.
Another part of this is when you're a large, physically powerful person, people expect you to always act that way. They expect you to take charge and take responsibility for everything, when honestly, sometimes you just want someone else to take over, be in charge. It's an even bigger issue in relationships. People assume since you're built large, you're a dom, even if you're the biggest sub there is.
Mirabel is probably one of the VERY few people Luisa (the strong girl) would confess this to - she very clearly adores Mirabel, with little things, even in this song. For example, after destroying the iceberg, she pauses to help Mirabel adjust her glasses, and almost every act in this song is to protect or save her.

This song broke me. I love Luisa so much, the message in the song is so strong. I don't have a brother or sister but I've always felt the pressure of having to be strong in the eyes of my family. One of the most poignant lines is "I'm pretty sure I'm worthless if I can't be of service." It hits home in a really hard way that expectations can be toxic if what you think you have to do or take care of is tied up in your self worth.
Your interpretation is veeery close considering you haven’t watched this movie yet. But the pressure Luisa is feeling is both metaphorical and literal. She’s literally the strong one, and all the heavy lifting is done by her and the whole town relies on her. When you watch the movie you’ll notice that Luisa moves and works nonstop. That’s part of where the pressure comes from. Something like “yeah she’s strong anyway give it ALL to her. She can take it” Also I read a comment somewhere the symbolism about her carrying six donkeys. A donkey is a “beast of burden” since Man relied on donkeys and similar beasts to carry or pull heavy things around since time immemorial. And here we have Luisa carrying these donkeys. It’s almost as if she’s treated like a tool in this town

As the eldest child, I related SOOOOO HARD to the idea of being the child to bear the burdens of my family. It was always my job to protect my siblings from the fights my parents had, bear my parents complaining about their marital problems to me individually (seriously don't do that to your kid), hide money problems from my siblings, even protect my parents from my siblings being hateful to my parents sometimes. And my family wonders why I'm low contact. Come to think of it, that's probably a big contribution to my crippling anxiety...
I watched my older sister go through it. Poor women was expected to be the perfect role model to me and my little sister before she even knew who she wanted to be. My parent's would always push that "remember your sisters learn from you" and other burdens a child shouldn't have to deal with. She was a child too, she was trying to figure out the person she wanted to be. I vowed that when I have children I will never expect that from my eldest. They'll be able to grow up without me uttering a line telling them their siblings look up to them and learn from what they do as if that's their responsibility. That's the one major thing I'd change from my parents parenting and I might just watch this movie if I ever forget.
This whole song is my life story and I'm so thankful for Lin-Manuel Miranda for stealing my diary and writing it. It is so powerful. Loved this video so much and I appreciate your insights that you shared. As for other songs, my suggestion is to *watch the movie and then talk about it.* But if you do other songs, *do NOT listen to Dos Oreguitas* because it's a beautiful song but it is more powerful and you'll *FEEL it the way it was intended if you watch the whole movie,* go on the journey, and THEN experience that song.
Thank you for your attentive reaction. I don't blame those who just get caught in the music and animation the first time, but this song and the movie itself do indeed tackle family relationships and mental health topics in a mold-breaking way. If you're interested in watching the whole movie, the only song I would suggest before that is Family Madrigal as the rest are generally considered spoilers. However feel free to enjoy the content however you want
It's the curse of being strong (even when it's not extreme like obviously it is here) and therefore being expected to Always be. Add being an older sibling in a family on top that naturally places responsibilities on you. Then add again having a family in a higher standing and that's highly depended on by the village they live in and you have unbearable pressure on someone that's actually only 19!
The same producer for this song and others on this soundtrack also worked with Dr. DRE, when I saw Mike Elizondo's name it was no surprise how 🔥 these songs are!
I've watched a lot of these Encanto react videos and I have to thank you for being so introspective and thoughtful about this because you're right. This is a really "heavy" song (haha, pun) that has a lot of actual mental health implications. The expectations we accidentally lay on family members affects them more than we may think - because of a lot of times it hides under the surface. Would love to get your reaction on the other Encanto songs for sure. "We don't talk about Bruno" hits on the misconceptions we form around the family outcast and "What else can I do" touches on more expectations families place on different siblings - Isabela's being "I must be PERFECT all the time...but I want to be my own person..." I really enjoyed this video, thanks!
This is my favorite song in the whole movie , plus bicep goals! 😁 and might I add , they Nailed the look of desperation when she’s holding the big rocks and looks at her younger sister ! It makes my heart hurt cause I understand that level of helplessness and the desperation of trying to find some way to control and uncontrollable situation 😔
i cried so much at this song thinking about my oldest sister. the oldest of four siblings. I'm the third child and my mom went girl boy girl boy with her kids and always puts the most pressure on her daughters, and now that my two older siblings have moved out, it's just me and my younger brother and now im being put in the same position my sister was in and i respect her a lot more. my sister and i only got closer when she moved out and we've come to a mutual understanding for each other
Wow! i have just watched Jojo's reaction to this just an hour ago and it made him think of his big sister as well. You guys are really family oriented and the fact that this song brought about the same understanding with you and Jojo toward your daughter/his sister is so Awesome!! My daughter, who's an only child, is much like Luisa when it comes to her son. He's an only child and has had it rough with medical issues early on in his life, but because of his momma's dilagence, he is doing much better. Excellent reaction!
Mirabelle didn’t get her “ door” as a child. She got it as a woman. And it wasn’t just the door, but the whole house. She is the new “abuela”. The keeper of the miracle. Also, that coffee kid cracks me up😂😂
A theory that I have seen is Luisa's song features the Donkeys which reflect how she feels about herself, she feels that she is worthless if she cant be of service and carry burdens much like farm animals carry much of the burdens of farming thus making them of service. It is so interesting to me how disney always leaves little aspects or easter eggs for people to interpret in their own way
This song hits me so hard, I’m the big sister in my family and our family was anything but stable. When I first watched this a few months ago with my daughter I was not expecting to break down when this came on. Now I can’t hear it without crying.😅😂
It’s actually about how her grandmother puts all the weight of the family on Luisa’s shoulders and she doesn’t get a chance to relax until the end of the movie
Actually, Luisa is the middle sister, not the older. You should react to la familia Madrigal if you wanna get to know more of every member of the family.
@@ambarcolmenares6338 Interesting since the powers are meant to correspond to the person's position in the family and the eldest child is usually the one that shoulders all the burdens of the family, often being forced to grow up faster than they should because they help around the house, help raise their siblings, are pressured to be the best, get the good grades, go to college, and make something of themselves, etc.

This movie sucker punched me in a way I wasn't expecting, cause I hadn't seen this song before seeing it (the movie) - and by the end of the song I was just in *tears* because holy hell I know what it's like as the oldest of 7. On the topic of Anxiety though, you should check out Overthinker by INZO. ♥
I'm pretty sure that i'm not the only person who strongly relates to Luisa. Like sometimes the wait of this 'pop' is even harder than the pressure itself. Everyone knows that we can't hold that pressure infinitely. And the very waiting, fear that this 'pop' will happen at the most random moment just makes things even harder. Disney did surprisingly good job on Encanto, by making sharacters not 'oh i'm princess and i'm going to save the world/kingdom/family', but actually relatable.
Watch it! I teared up the first time I saw the movie but I thought it was because I had just had a rough day at work ( double because of ppl out sick with covid) and I had a few glasses of wine. But I’ve watched it a hundred times since and still love the message.
You can actually see the change of attitude in her, as soon as she sees her little sister panicking near her. She tries to hide her emotions and vulnerable side and it reflects on the animation. Beasts that were huge and threatening are reduced to mere toy sized creatures instead, and lighting shifts. As does her expression.
The magician doors 🚪 where everyone was suppose to get individual powers basically told *Mirabel* "You don't need all these extraordinary gifts that's been bestowed to everyone else!!" You are the *Miracle Child* you have been imbued with characteristics no one else has or is seriously lacking 😭: Leadership,Kindness,Compassion and Fairness. And Mirabel is using that on a daily basis and doesn't even know it. And that's also part of insecure, not know her own gifts that everyone else is lacking..
i wish my mom would listen to this song and actually listen to the meaning and what she’s saying because i’m the oldest and i don’t ever feel heard when i’m out under so much pressure
Anxiety is that feeling you get when you do not study for a test you think you can pass but may have failed anyways.. It is dread. It is the pit in your stomach thinking you failed someone or something without realizing it. The fear of inevitability based off personal history.
Here's the emotional deal with Encanto Luisa:Stressed Isabella:Feels as if she needs to be perfect Doloris:Keeps secret that Bruno never left Maribel:Sad she has no power Pepa:Anxious and constantly has mood swings as if she never left her teens, but she's over 40 yo

Sorry… Just … a lot on but… I’m good… You okay?” And if I’m like “I asked about you…” No answer because we don’t talk about our stuff hey. Ridiculous. Family is being together. No one needs to do it alone. That’s the whole point

So this movie is absolutely incredible and if u do watch more of the songs there is a significant list from start to finish I recommend watching them in the order that the movie portrays because it tells the story of the movie and makes more sense as they progress
You mentioned that Encanto is a kids movie. Modern animations are made just as much for adults as they are for kids. Pixar, and Disney animated films usually have some deep meaning within the stories. They are fun to watch, easy to get feelings for the characters, are emotional, and have lessons for both kids, and adults. Yeah, you really should watch the entire movie. If you haven't seen it, Coco, by Pixar, is a masterpiece. Luca, by Pixar is also excellent. Onward is a little noticed, but great movie, by Pixar.

This whole song is my life story and I'm so thankful for Lin-Manuel Miranda for stealing my diary and writing it. It is so powerful. Loved this video so much and I appreciate your insights that you shared.
As for other songs, my suggestion is to *watch the movie and then talk about it.* But if you do other songs, *do NOT listen to Dos Oreguitas* because it's a beautiful song but it is more powerful and you'll *FEEL it the way it was intended if you watch the whole movie,* go on the journey, and THEN experience that song.
she's right about the order to experience Dos Oreguitas in.YES!
I cried on and off the entire movie. Almost anytime my daughter wants to watch it, I let her.
@@livelovemuzic17 I’ve never been blessed with children of my own, but I can only imagine. Hold them tight♥️
My favorite in the whole movie, and I liked all the songs. So that's saying something!
Definitely react to "We don't talk about Bruno" " What else can I do " etc. ALL SONGS are amazing really
I'm the third child and my mom went girl boy girl boy with her kids and always puts the most pressure on her daughters, and now that my two older siblings have moved out, it's just me and my younger brother and now im being put in the same position my sister was in and i respect her a lot more. my sister and i only got closer when she moved out and we've come to a mutual understanding for each other
“😭😂What’s her name? Mer, Mer, Mercantoo?”
Min Manuel créate a master piece wonderfull 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
when u wanna curse without cursing u say miercoles
Wow! i have just watched Jojo's reaction to this just an hour ago and it made him think of his big sister as well.
"Oldest daughter syndrome" indeed. I love this one; it goes powerful, it goes sweet and soft.
Mirabelle didn’t get her “ door” as a child. She got it as a woman. And it wasn’t just the door, but the whole house.
She is the new “abuela”.
The keeper of the miracle.
Also, that coffee kid cracks me up😂😂
"Mercantu". Har har har har can't stop.
A theory that I have seen is Luisa's song features the Donkeys which reflect how she feels about herself, she feels that she is worthless if she cant be of service and carry burdens much like farm animals carry much of the burdens of farming thus making them of service. It is so interesting to me how disney always leaves little aspects or easter eggs for people to interpret in their own way
I am a big sister and yes this song touches home. Brothers or sisters, you feel the pressure if you love them or not
This song hits me so hard, I’m the big sister in my family and our family was anything but stable. When I first watched this a few months ago with my daughter I was not expecting to break down when this came on. Now I can’t hear it without crying.😅😂
I feel like this is an anthem for so many women.
It’s actually about how her grandmother puts all the weight of the family on Luisa’s shoulders and she doesn’t get a chance to relax until the end of the movie
Her special power is to make people go into musical numbers.
When you spoke about your eldest daughter, yeah, that hit. Spot on
Really loved your thoughts on the meaning. This is such a powerful song that we can all relate to!
Finally watched this movie last night. Would definitely watch over and over. Such a good movie with good messages
Actually, Luisa is the middle sister, not the older. You should react to la familia Madrigal if you wanna get to know more of every member of the family.
I don't think so. She's the oldest of Julietta's children...Luisa, Isabella, Mirabel.
@@JessRansdellSmith I'm pretty sure that the creator say that Luisa is 19, while Isabella is 21 or 22 during the movie. So Luisa is the middle sister
@@JessRansdellSmith i know right?? Maybe the fact that Isabella was obviously abuela's favorite make her feel like she have to help everywhere to be worthy.
@@JessRansdellSmith also, i don't know if what i read was canon or not, but someone had say that a the powers also go with the tastes por personality of the family.
That song will be on your head, in watched the movie with my daughters and this one and “ We don’t talk about Bruno” were in my head for days
Encanto is inspired by the clothes, the food, the fauna and landscapes in Colombia South America and the magical culture of Colombia. I really liked your reaction
i’m a new viewer, but i hope you’re in a position where you can talk to your oldest daughter about the issues you mentioned! it’s really cool and important that you recognized those issues 💜 can’t wait to watch new videos
She’s probably the most relatable character in the whole movie before Mirabel
I like to think that he went and gave his eldest daughter a hug after this video.
Mercanto cracked me up ahhahaha
I am watching your we don’t talk about Bruno video then this pops up what luck!
This movies deep, like all their issues can actually happen in reality
6:45 I love what this song has done ❤️
It's great to see you react to a second one of these from the movie. I didn't know anything about it but so far it's interesting.
It’s AMAZING watch it you won’t regret it!
Watch it! I teared up the first time I saw the movie but I thought it was because I had just had a rough day at work ( double because of ppl out sick with covid) and I had a few glasses of wine.
But I’ve watched it a hundred times since and still love the message.
Really appreciate your considered comments and reflections brother...you got yourself another off the basis of that alone😀👍
1:40 mirabel's reaction is literally my reaction when he was saying those random things 🤣
You can actually see the change of attitude in her, as soon as she sees her little sister panicking near her. She tries to hide her emotions and vulnerable side and it reflects on the animation. Beasts that were huge and threatening are reduced to mere toy sized creatures instead, and lighting shifts. As does her expression.
you need to hear the one about waiting for a miracle
She has Super strength she’s able to do that
Mercantu. From now on that will be her name.
Thank you, I was looking for this.
@@LoremIpsum905 hahahaha I was like... really? Nobody?
The magician doors 🚪 where everyone was suppose to get individual powers basically told *Mirabel* "You don't need all these extraordinary gifts that's been bestowed to everyone else!!" You are the *Miracle Child* you have been imbued with characteristics no one else has or is seriously lacking 😭: Leadership,Kindness,Compassion and Fairness. And Mirabel is using that on a daily basis and doesn't even know it. And that's also part of insecure, not know her own gifts that everyone else is lacking..
Just have to say I'm a huge fan of Norfolk State's marching band, I was so happy to see you're an alum!
i wish my mom would listen to this song and actually listen to the meaning and what she’s saying because i’m the oldest and i don’t ever feel heard when i’m out under so much pressure
I find it funny how they had to put her dancing and the donkeys to distract the younger kids watching it to not think about the lyrics too much
1:38 my thoughts exactly! Spent the whole movie trying not to crush on Luisa
Anxiety is that feeling you get when you do not study for a test you think you can pass but may have failed anyways.. It is dread.
It is the pit in your stomach thinking you failed someone or something without realizing it.
The fear of inevitability based off personal history.
Check out “We don’t talk about Bruno” and “What else can I do” both are songs from Encanto
Thanks again! Gotta watch this now. Inspirational!
it's a family movie, it's for everyone
Yes you do need to see it, but be prepared to cry, cause it's real.
We don’t talk about Bruno No No ❤️ great song!!
Bonjour!
Liver plate!
Oui! Ouiiiiii!!!
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣💀
Life is going to happen without us... Wise words!
Here's the emotional deal with Encanto
Luisa:Stressed
Isabella:Feels as if she needs to be perfect
Doloris:Keeps secret that Bruno never left
Maribel:Sad she has no power
Pepa:Anxious and constantly has mood swings as if she never left her teens, but she's over 40 yo
Watching it with your daughters !!!!!
It makes me happy how much you enjoyed this ☺
I relate to this song so much as a Mom.
…who was also the oldest child. Lol
Do you not notice the dramatic donkeys?? As deep as this song is.... the donkeys!!!
This guy gets it.
Long time sub here man. Came to you for the GOAT Em, still here for Disney. I love how you relate these things to your and all of our own personal lives. Great reaction brother. How about a little more Bo Burnham for the real ones!?!
I know too many people like this but they like to think they emotionally that strong. I’m here like “dude… you all good?”
“I’M FINE! Sorry… Just … a lot on but… I’m good… You okay?”
And if I’m like “I asked about you…”
No answer because we don’t talk about our stuff hey.
Ridiculous. Family is being together. No one needs to do it alone. That’s the whole point
this song speaks to me so much noit in a way you would think. im the youngest of 3 kids. my older sister and we are 2 boys im the youngest. im the screw up the one who ddid drugs etc and didnt graduate. this song made me think about my older sis and what she mustve felt when we were young and i was a little asshole.
The movie is on Disney Plus if you have it. I had to watch it when you reacted to the first song. I really enjoyed it.
Bonjour. Silver plate. Oui oui! 😂
Edit: that’s how I heard it but I know you meant “s’il vous plaît “
So this movie is absolutely incredible and if u do watch more of the songs there is a significant list from start to finish I recommend watching them in the order that the movie portrays because it tells the story of the movie and makes more sense as they progress
Yea I’ll be waiting for the movie reaction thanks in advance 💙
Man really said "it's heavy" _no pun intended_
Luisa's song is the deepest of the movie.
Very insightful , you have a new fan
You should react to 'the Family Madrigal' if you want to know all of the family members' powers
MERCANTU ❤ ❤
shes in the movie
