Yes, Jerry Reed was in the movie Smokey and the Bandit. He was the trucker. Here's a live version of Jerry singing it. Hope you enjoy! th-cam.com/video/8QAEmCuBnck/w-d-xo.html
Jerry Reed is an amazing an under-recognized talent with the guitar. Yes, he was the coach in "The Waterboy" but probably best known as the truck driver in the '77 movie, "Smokey and the Bandit" featuring a '77 Trans Am and Burt Reynolds/Sally Fields. Need to watch the movie and the song will make a lot more sense.
You are SO right--the song is too short, but some fun songs are like that--they make you want more. You are also right about the up-tempo-it is infectious--but you surprised me giving a thumbs-up to ol' Jerry's vocals--the late guitar cat would have appreciated that, I'm sure. 😄
He wrote the song Guitar Man for Elvis and played acoustic guitar on it. He was costar of Burt Reynolds in the movie classic comedy Smokey And The Bandit.
If you've never seen it, you should watch Smokey and the Bandit. This song was for that movie. Try Jerry Reed-Amos Moses, Lord Mr Ford or (and) She Got the Goldmine (I got the Shaft)!
Yeah it is short. Though there is actually Two songs (Eastbound & Down / westbound & Down). (which I only recently learned myself) Granted, they are pretty similar. (not quite "identical") But I think if they had released the entire thing as ONE song, it would've been fine. (in length) But I still love it anyways.
If you thought the song was too short, there is actually a sequel song that was written for the sequel of Smokey and The Bandit. Song's called Texasbound and Flying. Very similar song.
This is a classic that's not played enough. Reid wrote this on the fly for the movie in one night. Talented man. RIP
You put this song on in the car, and you're gonna start speeding, if you're not already. It's perfect car chase music.

Reed did a lot of good songs. Most of them upbeat and a little tongue in cheek. "Amos Moses" was a good one. "Lord Mr. Ford" was really funny.
