Would you recommend this or the Bugs 2W (wifi FPV-version) for a complete beginner?
I've ordered a couple of smaller, cheap drones to learn flying (and for indoors use) but I'm pretty sure I want a larger GPS drone with camera. I was very much into the Bugs 2W but last night I heard of this, and it seems like this is pretty much exactly like the Bugs 2 PLUS better FPV and a higher quality camera?
Is this Hubsan powerful enough to carry an action cam (strapped on), I've seen the Bugs 2 lift that.

I can ABSOLUTELY recommend this quad, even in 2020. I've had her for years, shes unbelievably reliable. If you want a stunt quad this may not be the one but if you want an easy flyer that looks good and records well and is SO beginner friendly you can hand your transmitter to basically anyone this thing is perfect.
Sbsolutely right! People try hard to pick out things to rag on these about, but the truth is that you get a lot of drone for the money.
I liked my new h501ss with h906a standard transmitter so much, I went on eBay and bought a used well cared for mint h501s with h901a advanced transmitter. I wanted to see which one I liked better between the two controllers and their capabilities. No differences besides the advanced has gimbal controlls. The used h501s has the old gold motors, vs the newest with the black steel motors. They both are amazing and rock solid reliable, no noticable differences in power or anything else. Now the advanced controller is nicer with gimbal controlls however not currently being used yet.. The h901a transmitter doesn't do anything that the standard won't do, (aside from gimbal controlls and smaller screen/little better resolution maybe) standard 906a.
Anyway long story short I decided I'd keep both and I set up the older one(501s) with the camera pointing downward about 15 degrees more than the standard position so I can get the best of whatever views I want between the two for fpv.(anyone learning fpv outdoors would likely want the gps rth function for piece of mind and way way less stressful to learn on) unless you have a spotter watching your every move while flying). Additionally it's pretty easy to attach a Walkera G2d plastic gimbal with action camera and get some professional looking pictures and videos from these birds even fpv flying while you do it, just know you are only going to get 10 minutes tops flying with the gimbal, action camera and additional small 2s battery for the gimbal (unless powered by the quads battery balance lead to save weight but loose flight time).
Imo if you do this modification get a 2200mAh 25-50c Turnigy 2s lipo to fight high battery temperature issues and the low c rating /draining fast, while carrying the previously mentioned accessories. The sky is the limit with theses if you have a bit ingenuity and time, really capable quads. Sure you can just go buy anything, but making things fun is what this quads let's anyone have a opportunity to experience.
My friend even in 2023 bangood put this drone for sale for 110€ ( pro controller included and 2 batterys ) and its the drone in number 1 spot in sales in bangood !!! I love it !!! Coming from cheap aliexpress drones with digital and wifi !!!! Well i like my sjrc f5 that as 3-4km distance but having a drone with powerful motors ( 1806) and good in the wind and with an amazing controller with a amazing stick sensitivity ( you can fly right next to a wall and do little adjustments and you can control without crashing ) my best drone controller for sure !!!And using any fpv googles directly without having to use the antennas or cameras included in the googles is fantastic !!!All eachine googles off 800 series ,work great !

Awsome little drone! Picked up a 501ss in black for £40 as spares or repairs( not working at all), re installed all the firmware after a couple days of tinkering/research and now works perfectly!! Couldn't be happier!!

This is my favorite video because...When I was first getting into drones it was one of the first videos I watched when researching drones. This video is probably what made me want to purchase this drone, and I now own 2 of them. One for me and 1 for my oldest son. It was also the video that made me subscribe to your channel. You guys make a great couple and are always happy, laughing and joking around when you make these videos. You ALWAYS put a smile on my face and make me laugh. Keep up the great videos!

After reviewing drones for several weeks (and driving my wife nuts talking about them) I finally ordered one of these today. I bought an s9 mini drone and have been flying it around the house for a couple of weeks now and feel more confident about my limited skills at age 65. I did get an extra battery for the drone and was considering a rechargeable for the control, but I thought I would wait and see how long the 8 AA's last. Thanks for all of your reviews and helping me decide!
After flying it for a couple of weeks, I found out the drone has circle here and circle me mode by holding down on the up or down buttons depending on which one you want. There was nothing in the manual about it. Funny that Hubsan didn't mention it. Both modes work well.

I just purchased the X4 H501S PRO (Black) from your link to Bangood. I bought it on Sunday evening and it arrived FROM HONG KONG on the following Thursday!!! Only 4 days from Hong Kong!?!?! WOW! I've flown it twice now and boy does it ever handle different than my Dromida Vista! You can tell its heavier, but has waaaayyy more punch. I cant wait to get comfortable with it. I got this exact one for 20$ on marketplace the people crashed it because the trims were messed up and they didn't know what they were doing I centered it and flys absolutely perfect.😅

This is my favourite video because I bought this drone after the fantastic review you gave about it. You guys always give a fantastic review to all that you do and I love watching your channel.
Thanks to your review (and many others) I just got this quad. By now, you probably know that, with one simple mod, you can extend the range, one guy got 2400m, which is 2000m farther than you went. That mod is adding a parabolic booster to the antenna. Love that you tested your Cyclops with it - awesome. A mod I plan is to extract the guts from a walkie talkie and attach that to the bottom, sort of a remote 'bullhorn', powered by the on-board battery. Another is to remove the guts of a good CR123 LED flashlight, put in a cardboard or thin plastic tube (lighter), mount to the bottom for use as a night searchlight. A small Mercury switch turns it on and off with a quick tilt left or right. Lastly, a bit of mirror mounted at 45 deg just in front of the camera on the left 1/3 of the frame so I can see directly below the quad for remote landing.
I really like your mod ideas, especially the mirror for help with FPV landings :) Sounds like this is going to be quite the winter project! Have fun and fly safe :)
Okay, drone arrives and I'm thrilled. It flies great, FPV works, but... it won't record video or photos - AARGH. I have tried 32GB and 8GB Micro SD but nothing. I have the advanced Tx, pressing ENTER (video) gives a message onscreen "Put throttle down" huh? and pressing EXIT (photo) does nothing. I see nothing in the user manual about what capacity card or specs, like must it be Class 10? Or class anything? I will get to the mods, but I have to fix my video issues first. Oh, got another mod: The mercury switch I want permanent, so I can turn any added gadget on and off, like the LED. So I want a tele converter lens to swing in front of the built-in wide one to give a close-up view. I've seen them for cell phones and action cams. Possibly with a small electromagnet rather than a servo.
I love this video because I wanted one and after your true and honest review I went out and brought one and I have not looked back since keep up the good work.
this was the best review I have seen on this yet and I can see myself getting one of these because I wanted to upgrade to something faster and this is plenty fast with GPS and everything else all the bells and whistles for under 3 hundred bucks hell to the yeah and those goggles you got 60 bucks wow man I need a pair of those thanks for the cool video you guys when I get some extra money I believe this is the one I am going to get pretty excited about that as always big thumbs-up y'alls

I just started watching you reviews of various quad drones recently and really enjoy them to make my decision as to which I'd like to buy. This H501S really interests me! You left out that it takes 8 batteries and "eats" through them quickly, yikes! I only learned this through my investigation from another TH-cam review. Also one other site also went on to say that the Link you provided to purchase it was not a very reliable source when it comes to help so I'm now worried about buying it. I flew many helicopters years ago so am now looking into quad GPS drones so your TH-cam reviews help me to make this decision. Thanks.

I have been looking for a drone all day, and I think I might just get this one. It has great range, so I can fly it around my neighborhood, and the video quality is great and it also has a FPV!!!
Most of the quadcopters you review I don't like but these Hubsans are no joke, they are pretty good. if you want to get into FPV for the first time these would be a great place to start. Plus that transmitter is way better than what you get with most lower end quads.
I was looking at one of those last year but I decided to go with a more substantial machine mainly because I have a dedicated sports camera.
now I am wishing I had gone with a Hubsan as my first one was a H107c which I had so much fun learning with.
I own this but with the nonprofessional controller. It is a really great drone and I highly recommend it too.

Nate : You can probably buy the original transmitter for the 501S from BangGood or on line. It has a larger screen. It has all the functions only they trigger differently. You can turn off the altitude hold using the on screen menu. The bird will fly faster and quite sporty. Great review! ;-)

On mine I found out how to turn the Led lights On/flashing/and off, by holding down both joysticks and pushing throttle trim botton for 2secs. Its awesome for night flights!!! I also found out how to do circle me mode, by pushing and holding the Down arrow key for 1sec.

just an update,, I got the HUBSAN STANDARD and the XK-X300-F. i have to say there was a 30.00 difference between the two I like both but the HUBSAN spolied me. much better flyer. in fact I was filming my REDCAT XB 1/5 SCALE I forgot that the HUBSAN was in the air. this quad is AWSOME! the XK IS FUN TOO! thanks for having both on your site. Now I can have fun and fly properly and not be unhappy not being able to fly. I'm going to get my girlfriend into this.

I just I would give you and update on the hubsan x4 I bought, I have made three flights no crash! Awesome! I final figured out the video I thought I was filming Nope! What I learned was just press the video button quick don't hold the button. Not sure but when I hold the button it displayed (circle fly) then if you press and hold the picture button it turns off the (circle fly). Do you maybe know what this is? also mine came with the standard controller not the advanced. thanks for putting out great videos for us who want to get into quads. I have a (jjrc) I can't fly it. But the Hubsan x4 I can. I love the fact I can let go of the controls to get my bearings back. Keep up the great videos!

I have been looking at the upair one with gimbal but as you said in the video look to add over $100 more for this feature. This quad looks like it has all the features I want at a lower price. Absolutely! I think you will really enjoy having made this decision. My Dad flies this drone almost daily and loves it! Consider picking up a couple extra batteries once you decide whether or not it is a keeper :)
this is a really nice quad my father in law Roy Nelson got me one for last Christmas I took it on my last deployment and it was great flying it around over there but I'm a little jealous lol I wish I had this one with me you guys keep doing what you do and i love the videos much love and hooah

Hi RCSaylors, WOW what an absolutely excellent tutorial video with detailed explanations of all the features. I ordered this model with the standard/basic RC last week from BangGood for $100. I'm especially thankful that you demonstrated the RTH mode by flipping the switch and the Fail-Safe RTH mode due to the drone's loss of flight control signal by powering down the RC. I'm sure that the Low Battery Fail-Safe mode also works just as stated in the user manual. Many thanks also for demonstrating the Follow Me mode. I was looking for a video which demonstrated those 3 modes. So you both get an A+. God bless you for taking care of that wonderful dog Popeye. BTW does he get big muscles when you fee him a spinach salad? I know that the Pro RC provides a greater flight range but I will be keeping the drone within viewing distance. I didn't need a model with a gimbal since I'm a "real newbie" and a very senior citizen to these high-tech birds. FYI I will using this drone during my orienteering meets out in the AZ desert. Lastly, OMG what a truly high-tech drone for just $100.!!!!!

BTW, I meant to tell you this. Having scoured the forums about the DJI camera feed problems, in my case it was my Ipad mini 2. Using my Ipad Air 2 I haven't experienced any live video feed problems in a while . The problem has to do with the video cache on the Mini 2. There is a fix for clearing it and resetting it, but it was a long process and I haven't done it yet.
Oh thanks for that! I'll have to see if that is my problem as well. I'm using a Samsung Galaxy Note 4. Maybe it's the same issue.
Or even try a different device without DJI GO installed and do a fresh install, just to see if that is the problem. As I recall they flushed the cache then deleted the DJI GO app, reset the device and reinstalled DJI Go. Obviously backup any data and /or device. That's why I just decided to try a different device (Ipad Air 2). A lot of work to fix DJI's problem. ;-)

A question for you guys, I have never flown with altitude hold. How hard is it to get used to? I seen a video on how to disable the self centering of the throttle stick. It looks simple enough. I'd love to here your thoughts. Thanks and keep up the good work!
The concept was odd to me on the very first flight, for about 20 seconds.. then it's all smiles for every flight after that :) It's amazing to take your hands off the throttle and see it hovering on its' own. I think you'll step right into just fine and really be pleased!

Buying used in the hobby can sometimes be the best route to go, saving a ton of money and still getting to enjoy the hobby :) Happy Flying!

Hi Guys, Just returned from a CERT activation doing damage assessment with our local County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) due to massive flooding and an earthen dam failure. Used the 501s to get pictures around the dam that were not able to get to safely without using the quad. The 501s worked great in a decent strong wind 10 mph sustained, gusts reaching 15+. Pics worked great, but have one question for you & your viewers, how does one set the timestamp on the pictures? My pics are all of the "hubsan_snap_19700101_080354.jpg" format without any timestamp in Windows 10. Appreciate all your helpful videos ! Go get em Popeye !!

I loved hearing the guys laughing at Nate running around with it following you. I am impressed with the price and how good it did. I got my Goggles and havent even taken them out of the box. I did find out mine are refurbished according to the sheet of paper I got with them. They were $27 but I forgot where I got them from. They came with a warrenty so not bad. I am still waiting for my camara and other stuff. I figure it may take a while since I ordered from Banggood and Gearbest. I ordered the wrong peopeller for my newest plane the A5. As its not the Name brand one,I find it is a bigger prop then what comes on this one. I am thinking of buying the name brand one as it is a beautiful plane and this one is a cheap version. Oh well. I need to fly it first to see how much I like it. They are Re-releasing the original A5 now,so if you always wanted one,Horrison Hobby is now carrying it. It isnt the micro version eather. Neather is the one I got,it is an inbetween size.
Hey scott! Glad you got your goggles but sorry you haven't gotten your cam yet! This was just so much fun to fly and film. I Love where the hobby is heading and how fast it's going there.
i'm getting another one. this drone is one of the very best. and it can go a lot more than 300 meters.
im going to buy one cuz this is the cheapest that have gps and looks pretty stable and from what i see it fly smoothly.
its around 150$ in my country and something like phantom is around 500$
