Hi Danne! I loved Tolkien when I was in my tweens and high school. I maintained a love for his work even while becoming a lesbian and feminist.
I did not get a chance to see the movies in the theatre, but was able to score the films from a trade I did. And instantly fell in love. I think Peter Jackson and his team did an amazing job recreating the rich and vast world of Middle Earth.
There are two films of The Hobbit. The 1970’s version, which is very childlike and created so that kids could enjoy the stories.
The Hobbit that Jackson’s team created was pretty good as well. The hobbit is important because it gives us some background as to what is happening in the rest of the story.
I didn’t get a copy of The Silmarillion until it came out. I think I was 17 or 18. And it was so intriguing and interesting that I wore the book covers out.
I recently read one of the books his son produced about the love between a man and an Elf. It was an intense piece and I really enjoyed reading it.
Once in a while I pull the movies out and watch them. I just love the acting and the way each actor created iconic figures. Andy Serkis invented a whole new way to act in a suit so that the engineers could then render Gollum.
I did not know what the series was based off of. I knew it wasn’t the stories Tolkien wrote, only alluded to. And to see the Kings of Numenor come alive was fascinating. I enjoyed the first season of the show and plan to watch the next one.
Thank you for this video, I really enjoyed watching you talk about Tolkien and his works!

Hi Johnnie, thank you for sharing your own journey with Tolkien's books and adaptations! It's impressive that you loved The Silmarillion so much, at first I admit I was only interested in TLOTR. I will definitely watch The Hobbit (& perhaps the older version too).

@@poetologie Thank you for the reply Danne. I was so about Tolkiens world and anything about him and his writing. Obsessed probably.
I re-read the Silmarillion a couple of times just so I could grasp what the references were and how they related to the rest of the books.
You should watch both of the Hobbit films. The older one is animated, the newer one is, of course, PJ’s version, and much closer to the story than the 1970’s film.
      Have a great day!

The Rings of Power is a mess. What Amazon did to Tolkien's work and lore is unforgivable.

If you enjoyed Rings of Power, I submit that you still don't actually understand Tolkien's world. To be clear, The Hobbit is an easier read because it was intended for children, where The Lord of the Rings was a response to the immense popularity among adults for The Hobbit.

Hi Tim, thanks for commenting. I am aware that The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings were written for different readerships. And I enjoyed Rings of Power in its own right rather than as an accurate depiction of Tolkien's narrative landscape.
