If you enjoy this please check it out here: Physical: bit.ly/LVOfficialLOTRAlbum Digital Versions: smarturl.it/peterhollensmusic -- It's called "Misty Mountains: Songs Inspired by The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings"
You did such a phenomenal job with this song!!! So proud of you!! And that would be so awesome to see live!! Especially if you came to NY because Id absolutely go!!! Then again to see any of your songs live would be incredible!!! *****
If you sing in Utah, I can guarantee that I will be there! I went to see the hobbit soon after watching your video and sung along at the end to I see fire. :D new favorite song, for sure!
I am SOOOO happy you guys are all enjoying this!! :) Thank you for all your kind words! Because this has been received so well I am going to do another song from LOTR for you! :) Can you guess which one!?!? :) I've gotten over 200 requests for it!
I love it because the background music doesn’t overwhelm the main melody. Unfortunately in some songs done later, everything is sung at the same volume; the background work isn’t in the background, so it’s vying for attention with the melody. Mr Hollens is insanely talented; however, I just don’t care for how the tracks are mixed in his most recent recordings.
I am absolutely blown away by your response to this song! Wow! Thank you so much for all your kind words! Please share this around, if you enjoy it, that's the best way to show your appreciation for my work! Thank you Thank you!!!
***** you are an amazingly talented artist. I always greatly enjoy listening to whatever you put out and find many times that your covers are far better than the originals. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!
I played this song for my father the week before he had his stroke. He was amazed that it was just one person singing all of the parts. I played him more of Peters' music and he loved it! Now I hear this song and it's bittersweet since my father passed away on April 8th. I am glad that I shared this with him.....
Skittle Gremlin I generally like to look at movies as if they weren’t based on something, or meant to be. Makes them much more enjoyable if you think of it as a different/new story.
***** This back and forth between you sounds like something from a chick flick. "I love you more. No I love you more. No I love you more. No I love you more..... etc." You two make my life that much better. Thanks for being awesome.
***** ***** you guys are an absolute beautiful couple!!! the love you both share is incredible. congrats on all your success and many more blessings and years of happiness to come. and especially congrats on baby hollens!!! he is truly blessed with you as his parents. the luckiest boy in the world.
I had a difficult pregnancy where i thought my child would die, and i would play this song for comfort and sleep in the hospital. Now it's the only song that will calm my beautiful baby girl. Thank you for your amazing talent and incredibly inspirational never-ending smiling attitude. :)
I had a similar experience with my daughter. After she was born if she was fussing about something and the opening music came on for a tv show I watched all the time, she would abruptly stop and look towards the sound. as soon as the music was over, she was right back to fussing. They remember. So talk nice to pregnant ladies.
Just lost my home in the Camp Fire of Northern California. My two brothers and sister and their families barely got out as well, some with only the clothes on their backs as they really were running through fire. I truly wish someone would make a memorial montage to Paradise with this song. I played it last night and it was too accurate for me not to bawl my eyes out while listening. Peter Hollens, you do such wonderful work. Been enjoying your songs for years.
I hope you and your family have successfully recovered from this tragedy, or at least, you are starting to recover. You're all loved, never forget that. Take care 🌹
I recently took off the end talk off this video so you could playlist it (without the talking at the end) AS REQUESTED!! Please enjoy!! Any other OLD videos you would like me to do that with let me know!!
Ah just the old videos makes more sense. I thought you were getting rid of all the endings. I like this option much better. :) Maybe you could state a rough guide of how old the video has to be before you consider a request? A year, three years etc. Music tends to only be ‘new’ for a short time in my experience. :)
That is very kind of you Peter.I have several of your videos on my music playlist and i like your updates on the new videos, but hearing the same old update is not so much entertaining. My request would be Hanging Tree, Baba Yetu and the Disney Villans Medley, because i still hear them A LOT. Keep up with your amazing work. Any Chance that ordering your CDs from Europe gets more affordable? The shipping fees would cost an arm and a leg and keep me away from ordering for quite the time now...
I've always been nervous about singing for others but after hearing you sing this, I was inspired to sing it as my audition piece for my school's varsity singing group and the judge was blown away! Thank you so much for inspiring me to put my voice out there!

Ed Sheeran is an amazing talent who has written an incredible song, but this is the best version I've heard of it. So powerfully performed. Goosebumps!
As singer/songwriters go Sheeran is certainly one of the better ones. At least for his songs you don't have have to listen to covers to tell what the words are. So many unintelligible singers out there.
+SKA Studios Ed Sheeran is a great songwriter, but his singing is very generic. He doesn't have much range and the only real emotion in his singing comes from the lyrics and not his voice. So props to him for writing it, but Peter Hollens singing is what brings it to life for me. I gave Ed Sheeran a like, but my views are all for Hollens.
This song, Ed Sheerans version, is what got me through my first deployment overseas. I interpreted the lyrics towards myself and my fellow soldiers... My brothers in arms. It really warmed my soul in a special way and gave my a fire in my belly I never knew...
Come back to cold drinks, loving friends, family, and know that dragons exist, as well as those who fight them. Thank you for being one of those guys... ...And, just as it might take a team to fight monsters abroad, you might need a team to fight the monsters inside. DONT be afraid to ask.
I honestly prefer this cover to Ed Sheeran's original. Don't get me wrong - I like both! But I just feel that....something when I hear this version. My daughter has said the same. There's something transcendent about it being done entirely in human vocals when the last chorus plays. There's a power to it that I feel suits the Durins' saga better than the original. And it's done soooo weeeelllll!!! Peter went all out on the acapella range and nailed it! It gets a lot of play on my iPhone.
Samara Draven I think it's probably because Peter adds a lot of tracks to his songs so it gives them a lot of depth. Ed's version doesn't have this many tracks.
My fav part starts at 3:58. I mean I love the whole song, the way he mixes it and just everything else is amazing, but that part sends chills down my spine
wow I am speechless... First there were these goosebumps, than the tears came and after all this... pure happiness... You're a true inspiration to me and I thank you for that! keep on singing and good luck with your baby to come!
Peter, I want to thank you for recording this song. Our infant daughter is 8 weeks old, and she has a condition that causes her to have bad headaches. She will outgrow it, but for now she cries a lot, and often screams for several hours at a time. My husband played your music for her a couple weeks ago in hopes it might calm her, and she loves it. "I see fire" is her favorite song, and when we play it for her, she stops crying almost immediately, calms, and watches the video intently until she finally falls asleep. She only likes your version of it, and many nights we play it for her for hours. When it stops, she begins to cry again, so we play it over and over. Being a parent as well as an artist, we thought you might like to know how special your music is, and how grateful we are that it soothes our little one when nothing else can. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world, and with our daughter. You are truly gifted.
In a way you look like Bilbo singing this song. I found this via Pandora and I love it. Ed Sheeran's version is great but the way you bring the song to life with your voice rather than instruments is amazing and sends chills through me every time I can't help but sing along. I plan to listen to more of your work!
I had like seven blankets yet I still got chills and cried while watching this video... Your an inspiration Peter Hollens. You are one of the reasons I'm still in my schools A cappella choir, even though I constantly mess up and have honestly no idea what I'm doing, and I was placed in wrong group. So thank you for making this..
I have to say I prefer this version to Ed Sheeran's. Peter's way of singing suits the context better than Ed's more "pop style" singing. Peter sounds like a bard from ancient times with a straight and clear voice. Really, really well done!
About three or four years ago I was looking for music for The Lord of Rings and came upon "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran. In the list of suggested videos was a cover by someone named Peter Hollens. It was like following the White Rabbit. I discovered not only a great singer, but the Wonderland of a capella music. I found many terrific groups and singers through him, including my current obsession, Home Free. He's been a blessing to the a capella community and to this fan of amazing singing (his definitely included!) Thank you, Peter! You are the Gandalf of a capella. May your magic continue! (Yes, I mixed Wonderland and Middle Earth metaphors. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Kinda like my own fall down the rabbit hole. For me, it was Christmas several years ago and i was looking for "Mary Did You Know" and once i found him, i was truly lost. So many good a capella groups out there and i never would have found them if it hadn't been for Peter Hollens and his amazing talent.
Hello Donna, how are you doing I am glad meeting you here and you draw my attention towards you and i can not let go that is why i decide to approach you and we should know and learn more about each other...
Last time I saw this video was in junior high, now I am a college student and studying abroad on my own. I had never thought I would ever feel so touched again after all those years. It feels so amazing like I never thought I could ever use TH-cam and watch this video here. So weird that I am older but still touched by the same song. Love Tolkien and his work, and love this song. Best wishes for all of us,for having a bright future.
Wow I honestly can't believe I've seen most of your videos and I'm only now seeing this one. It is phenomenal, truly amazing. You did such an amazing job on this. I can honestly say I like this version more than the original.
tyler edwards trust me i know what you mean. I listened to the original but it was only after I heard this let me tell you there was absolutely no comparison, this is the best version of this song I've ever heard hands down
Wow! My daughter turned me on to this! What a amazing understanding of harmony and vocal control! I was moved to tears. Thank you ever so much for posting
Outstanding Peter. Never thought I'd hear a version that moved me the way Ed Sheeran's did but boy yours did just that. A beautiful and very clever version of this song. I will absolutely be listening to other songs by you. Again I loved it. Thank you Peter.
Please please please do Billy Boyd's Last Goodbye. It should be playing during the credits for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I adore the original, but I'd love to see your version of it too!
In the thingy at the end of the song of the lonely mountain, he says he has another Hobbit song in the works, and that viewers should have an easy time guessing which one it is. Considering how he has done the end credits songs for all the other movies, how hard is it to believe that this next song will be The Last Goodbye?
Mr. Hollens! You are truly talented! Never give up on your covers. Soon one day you will be a renowned singer, one who travels to many, many cities and places. I hope many people, when they speak of you, that they speak of you as a fan. I hope that, if you are married, your significant other is very proud of you. That goes to everybody who decides to read this! You are the reason somebody is smiling today.
+Michelle Miyazato Or New Year's Eve in Germany...that was the most fitting time I've ever listened to this song haha. They like their fireworks there.
Don't get me wrong... I love Ed Sheeran. But... This is just so much more beautiful and it just speaks to me more. I know this is a little late but still.... this cover makes me tear up because you sound so emotional and I feel the loss and fear that the person that tis song is about is feeling. This is just... wow.
I got the Hobbit extended editions for Christmas, and this song is all I can think about when watching them. I absolutely love this version. You did the song an insane amount of justice.
This is so, perfect. I can't describe it! I have listened to this on loop, for hours, and it never gets old. Lotr is Awesome, The hobbit is Awesome, and Peter Hollens? He is part elf so that explains everything. All that is left to say is I LOVE LOVE LOVE LOVE this!!!!!
The bridge always gets me. Just wow. I can't stop listening to this, even after all these years. It's THE most amazing cover of any song i ever came actross so far. Absolutely brillant. I get goosebumps EVERY time! Thank you Mr Hollens!
He has the kind of face where if I ever saw him cry I think I might just fall apart- I don't think I could handle it- he's so handsome but also precious like a little puppy >.
... WTF IS THIS!? This is out of the ordinary!! Who IS this man!? He is insane! I need to watch all of his videos... there MUST be an instrument! There has to be! PETER HOLLENS!! WHY ARE YOU SO AWESOME!?
Every time I watch this video (and it's been a lot), I'm left breathless by the artistry and beauty. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us...now I'm going to listen again.

Samara Draven I think it's probably because Peter adds a lot of tracks to his songs so it gives them a lot of depth. Ed's version doesn't have this many tracks.

I think I figured out how Peter Hollens sang this so well: he’s half elf.
Ah, but have you seen the shape of his ears and eyes? No way he isn't at least part elf...

Well, he may have been a relative of Legolas' lineage. Or maybe of the line of Arwen... That's it!
And half dwarf. Wait. The SCANDAL!!!😱😂

Wow! Almost at a million views! Nice job babe!
Should be closer to 2 mil with a cover like this! Incredible :)

Wow, 18m...
I listened to this when you first posted this, 10 years later still gives me goosebumps.
This made me so overwhelmingly excited I cried. That was way too amazing to handle.
I have to say I prefer this version to Ed Sheeran's. Peter's way of singing suits the context better than Ed's more "pop style" singing. Peter sounds like a bard from ancient times with a straight and clear voice. Really, really well done!
I am a major LOTR fan and this is my favorite song, there is something so satisfying about it and I love your cover of it. You did amazing.
He's been a blessing to the a capella community and to this fan of amazing singing (his definitely included!)
Thank you, Peter!
You KNOW you are a dork, right. No more than I am, best believe. Just hoping you are aware to this fact. That's all.
@@misfitcrow3350 Why, thank you! 😀
Listening to this after watching the movie sends chills down my spine
"What have we done?"
From one Peter to another, well done my friend.
Mr. Hollens, you are an amazingly talented person! May God continue to bless you as you have blessed us!
Wow I honestly can't believe I've seen most of your videos and I'm only now seeing this one. It is phenomenal, truly amazing. You did such an amazing job on this. I can honestly say I like this version more than the original.
i just found him today he is great! :D
Josie Allsbrook hell yeah he is
Hawaiianbabe927 This is the original for me I dont even want to know how the other one sounds this is already magical
tyler edwards trust me i know what you mean. I listened to the original but it was only after I heard this let me tell you there was absolutely no comparison, this is the best version of this song I've ever heard hands down
Hawaiianbabe927 I watched the original once. It was good, but it didn't have the depth of this cover.
I love acapella, especially this kind where one person can sound like an entire orchestra. Beautiful.
Wow! My daughter turned me on to this! What a amazing understanding of harmony and vocal control! I was moved to tears. Thank you ever so much for posting
10,000,000 Views, Congratulations Peter. A very well deserved milestone!!!!!
So True...
Congratulations Peter!! (Peter's my favourite TH-camr singer)
10,000 of them are mine.....
milestone more like arkenstone
Outstanding Peter. Never thought I'd hear a version that moved me the way Ed Sheeran's did but boy yours did just that. A beautiful and very clever version of this song. I will absolutely be listening to other songs by you. Again I loved it. Thank you Peter.
Probably one of my all time favorite covers of a song. Top five, at the very least.
I have never heard the original song, but i got goosebumps from the beginning. This is beautiful.
Peter Hollens ROCKS! This is (IMHO) his 2nd best song so far, right after Dragonborn which he recorded with Lindsay Stirling. Please keep them coming!
Please please please do Billy Boyd's Last Goodbye. It should be playing during the credits for The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. I adore the original, but I'd love to see your version of it too!
I second that
In the thingy at the end of the song of the lonely mountain, he says he has another Hobbit song in the works, and that viewers should have an easy time guessing which one it is.
Considering how he has done the end credits songs for all the other movies, how hard is it to believe that this next song will be The Last Goodbye?
YES please do that OMG it would be awesome :D
The new
That song made me sad cause it was like it was saying goodbye to middle earth because there's nothing more to make movies out of :(
I love the fluidness of your voice and how elegant it sounds
Mr.
What a version. Powerfull and amazing. And all just one man's voice. Pffw, blows my mind.
This is a beautiful interpretation of Ed's song. I'm impressed, this was so good it gave me goosebumps!
Nobody gives ME goosebumps...
i love this song b/c it's like the perfect theme song to humanity facing any apocalypse-level natural disaster movie/novel
Now you made me picture that, thanks LOL
+CrazyMushroom yes wery lol
+Michelle Miyazato Or New Year's Eve in Germany...that was the most fitting time I've ever listened to this song haha. They like their fireworks there.
Don't get me wrong... I love Ed Sheeran. But... This is just so much more beautiful and it just speaks to me more. I know this is a little late but still.... this cover makes me tear up because you sound so emotional and I feel the loss and fear that the person that tis song is about is feeling. This is just... wow.
Ahhhhhhh!!! I can't stop listening to it!! Your voice is amazing!!!!!
I got the Hobbit extended editions for Christmas, and this song is all I can think about when watching them. I absolutely love this version. You did the song an insane amount of justice.
Wow! What a great sound! I can't stop listening to this tune.
Great song. Check out Alice Olivia's version.
This song never fails to give me chills. It is one I constantly have my husband play again and again in the car. It's amazing.
crying while I sing this, my brother and I used to sing this together all the time and I haven't seen him in about five or six years now *bawls*
By far the best cover by Peter to date. I keep coming back.
The bridge always gets me. Just wow. I can't stop listening to this, even after all these years. It's THE most amazing cover of any song i ever came actross so far. Absolutely brillant. I get goosebumps EVERY time! Thank you Mr Hollens!
Love that this cover still hits home after all this time! ❤️✨
He has the kind of face where if I ever saw him cry I think I might just fall apart- I don't think I could handle it- he's so handsome but also precious like a little puppy >.
Too much awesome, Mr. Hollens. I am so glad that you did the Skyrim song with Lindsey Stirling. That is what led me to you. Bravo, Sir. Bravo.
Same :D
Same here... that led me to both of them, and I've not looked back!
Same here! I've been subscribed ever since!
I agree♥ This is better than the original
I have two words for this cover: DAMN GOOD
This was gorgeus to listen to. Your voice and the way you combine it to recreate the song into a masterpiece is amazingly beautiful.
Can't stop listening to this song. You've definitely topped the original. Amazing vocals.
Gives me shivers everytime I listen. You, my good sir, may well be the most talented musician on TH-cam.
Man, I watched this for the first time today. I can see the tremendous amount of effort that went into this. Bravo!!
9 years later and it's still my favorite version of this song! So epic! So well done! So moving!
I love the depth of emotion in these songs. Well done, Mr. Hollens!
This is so amazing! Its way better than the original, now my favourite song (this version specifically)
... WTF IS THIS!? This is out of the ordinary!! Who IS this man!? He is insane! I need to watch all of his videos... there MUST be an instrument! There has to be! PETER HOLLENS!! WHY ARE YOU SO AWESOME!?
it's funny the pace on this is perfect for splitting firewood, gave me a smile.
I think this may be better than the original. How does he not have millions of subscribers?
It's better ;)
I hate people who say this. but this is a must. Better than the original.
i agree so much
Ellie and Jared brought me here. Goosebumps!! Inspiring! 😊😊
Every time I watch this video (and it's been a lot), I'm left breathless by the artistry and beauty. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us...now I'm going to listen again.
