There are metal bands ( Death, Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, Meshuggah, Fit For An Autopsy, Slaughter To Prevail, Jinjer, Slayer, Anthrax, Megadeth, Testament, Gojira, Fear Factory, Exodus, Overkill, Entombed, Kreator, Obituary, Lorna Shore, Dillinger Escape Plan, Behemoth, Nile, Cattle Decapitation, etc,etc) ...... ......and there are pretenders who want the metal label but refuse to play metal ( Nickleback, Disturbed, Stained, Guns -N-Roses, Cinderella, WASP, Motley Crue, Poison, Nelson, Winger, Stryper, Limp Bizkit, Lincoln Park, Dokken, Kingdom Come, Scorpions, etc etc)....... ......then there are bands that used to be metal but are now radio bands who have strayed away from metal and are never coming back because Bob Seger covers is all they have left in the tank (Metallica, Incubus) Yes...Incubus was a thrash metal band in the 80s along the lines of Wehrmacht, Kreator, and Sodom with a touch of Venom before they became a mainstream radio band.
The dynamic here is awesome. Malinda is showing passion and even a shade of anger and determination, while Violet presents with a longing and desperation. Like two travelers on a similar journey but for different reasons. So appropriate!

So I searched "I see fire metal cover", discovered Jonathan Young's absolutely spot on perfect cover, and dove in deep on his discography. That journey alone was a big win, but not far into Young's videos I came full circle to a metal version of several Phantom of the Opera songs... with Melinda singing! @@KenZchameleon I was introduced to Nightwish during the Tarja era. I really fell in love with symphonic metal. For the next ten years I followed the entire genre to a crazy degree. I really like Floor as their lead singer, she’s amazing in her own work.
I know a lot of people are saying they wanted it to go even harder and be more hard rock / metal vs a rock ballad style, but I don't know if I agree. This sticks truer to the original than a proper metal cover would have. EDIT: 2 weeks after my original comment and I'm obsessed with Violet's covers. Absolutely incredible. I was introduced to MALINDA's music through the Hoist the Colors clip that went viral, and now I've been introduced to Violet's music from this. Sometimes TH-cam is a great thing.
TH-cam is, a mixed pile at most times. But there are hidden gems, that when uncovered, truly makes up for the piles upon piles of utter brain mush. Gems such as this one. I also completely agree with your initial comment, i dont think it could have gone any harder while being true to the original. Although i must say, she did slightly oversell it in the intro and title.

This song has a very special place in my heart. It is about facing a battle and understanding you might not make it. I love it. When Peter Hollins did his cover, I thought that the song could not be done any better. Now I find myself happily speechless...this cover brings a new power to the lyrics and meaning to this song. Perhaps it is because I am getting older and I continue to see people fight the same battles as before, the song has an even deeper meaning...or it could just be the power of your voices. @@KenZchameleon I was introduced to Nightwish during the Tarja era. I really fell in love with symphonic metal. For the next ten years I followed the entire genre to a crazy degree. I really like Floor as their lead singer, she’s amazing in her own work.

I know a lot of people are saying they wanted it to go even harder and be more hard rock / metal vs a rock ballad style, but I don't know if I agree. This sticks truer to the original than a proper metal cover would have.
EDIT: 2 weeks after my original comment and I'm obsessed with Violet's covers. Absolutely incredible. I was introduced to MALINDA's music through the Hoist the Colors clip that went viral, and now I've been introduced to Violet's music from this. Sometimes TH-cam is a great thing.
TH-cam is, a mixed pile at most times. But there are hidden gems, that when uncovered, truly makes up for the piles upon piles of utter brain mush. Gems such as this one.
I also completely agree with your initial comment, i dont think it could have gone any harder while being true to the original. Although i must say, she did slightly oversell it in the intro and title.
Also just discovered Violet, she adds that bid of darkness/romance that I miss in most music

They had a specific light fixture for all of Cate Blanchett's shots in LOTR to show the star light she had in her, I dont know if Malinda did it on purpose or not but she has the same thing going on and its beautiful.

I didn't get the kick I was expecting, or the metal flavour I thought I was getting. Like someone else said, it felt more like a rock ballad. More similar to the Disturbed cover of Sound of Silence than anything from evamescence or nightwish.
In saying that, this is still an awesome cover that I'd probably pick over the original

I agree. I also felt like it needed to be "harder" and a faster tempo, sooo I adjusted the speed to 1.25 and it was incredible! I recommend trying it!

This song has a very special place in my heart. It is about facing a battle and understanding you might not make it. I love it. When Peter Hollins did his cover, I thought that the song could not be done any better. Now I find myself happily speechless...this cover brings a new power to the lyrics and meaning to this song. Perhaps it is because I am getting older and I continue to see people fight the same battles as before, the song has an even deeper meaning...or it could just be the power of your voices. Either way this is incredible. Thank you!

This version would not have suited thst movie at all...so saying that there was an oomph we always wanted, makes zero sense. Without the original, this would not exist. I dont get why people need to bash one thing to make the another seem better.

I've never been a fan of this song, and apparently it's because it was in the wrong genre.
The original version is definitely a rock song that was brought up in an Amish community and could use the instruments it truly required to be good.
