That's amazing! It's my favorite thing to see, people who have invested along side and made a good profit and stuck it out over the long run. Compound growth is the best and that sounds like an epic return! Congrats man 👏
Every month I buy the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 in my TFSA on EasyEquities. Before the recent correction I was up 32%. When the markets fall it's a good idea to invest EVEN MORE money if possible for an even bigger upswing when the fear subsides.
This is where I max out my Tax Free Savings Account yearly 😎 I am looking forward to see what the end amount will be over the course of the next 10-12 years.
Investing can become very emotional & success is dictated by how you keep your emotions under control. I have a simple approach, buy during fear (major corrections down) & sell during extreme greed (market highs).
Hahaha thank you 😊. And I love that you've been around long enough to know about the avatar guy 😂. I'll make sure to pop him in more videos just for you! 👍
Well first you will need to sign up to a platform like Brokstock or EE. The nice thing with Brokstock, if you use the link you get your extra R100 for free. Which is always good. But sign up to a platform, and you can start investing from there 😊
Having just turned 51 and got laid off, I'm at a turning point. With 425K saved for early retirement at 60, 10K in an HSA, and a property that could sell for an extra 200K, what are my options for investing aggressively?
Not going back to work. I'm unsure whether to consolidate all my investment accounts into one. If I do, how should I handle it and what should I be aware of? I also plan to sell my property, which could bring in an extra 200K over time. Should I combine everything into one account or spread it out across different investments?
These are important questions for a financial planner. I connected with mine at a NYSE summit, and with her help, my wife and I reallocated our 1.7M portfolio between a traditional IRA and a brokerage account. She’s been executing trades with our consent and has managed to recoup twice our crisis losses. We’re holding and cautiously navigating the market
I do it in the dollar portfolio. There is a difference, mainly the difference is that over the last 40 years or so the dollar has appreciated more than the Rand. So with dollars, if this continues, you get a double gain in both share price growth and currency growth 😊
Well I can't give you any advice for yourself, but I am going to be looking to top up my investment. 😊 I'm not going to put in a huge amount, but just top up with my normal amount as I always do. But I will be topping up a bit now 😊
What would the difference be investing in the S&P500 through a Tax Free savings account and investing in the normal VOO ETF which would result in capital gains tax in the future? Does the tax free savings account yield the exact same returns as the normal VOO ETF? I already know there is a yearly investment limit and lifetime limit on tax free savings accounts, I'm just wondering if the TFSA brings in a smaller yield perhaps? Thank you for the amazing video!!
So the returns should be almost identicle, the only difference is that VOO invests in dollars rather than rands. So it will depend on the difference between the Rand depreciation and capital gains tax. Hard to say which will be more or less. But I like the idea of having currency diversification as well 😊. But that's it, just the currency difference
I want to start investing in the S&P500. What’s the difference between investing in the Sygnia S&P 500 using the ZAR account and the Vanguard S&P 500 using the USD account on Easy Equities? Which would you suggest and why?
Yes the one is in USD (VOO) and the other is in rands (Sygnia). But honestly you can't go wrong with either. I use VOO because historically the dollar has outperformed the Rand, so in theory that would give you better returns over the long term. That's why I use the VOO in dollars. But you can't go wrong with either. Sygnia is great 😊
thank you for a great channel Chris. just 2 questions pls for clarification. 1. if my monthly expenses are R10k, would I need to invest approximately R2.4mil in VOO?, and 2. to get the 4% annually I would have to sell VOO shares so my capital is not entirely being preserved and after x number of years would be completely depleted correct?
Well there are a few different ways here. I am not an expert on tax, and it will be different for a few people. But essentially it would be capital gains tax if/when you sell with a profit. The amount of tax will depend on the amount and the bracket. However, if you do it in a tax free savings account (although you can only do R32K a year) there will of course be no tax. The 1.3% dividend is dividend tax which in the USA is only 10%.
I'm using EasyEquities. I've used them for the last 2 years and they're great. Brokstock is also good, and the extra R100 free helps. But both are good options 👍
It is very similar, the Satrix 40 is the South African equivalent. But the S&P500 has outperformed the Satrix 40 for many many years. But might be worth having both 😊
The easiest way is through platforms like Brokstock or EasyEquities. With Brokstock you get the extra R100 which helps. But I find these platforms much much easier and simpler than Alan Gray, Coronation etc 😊. I would def start there 😊
Hi - thank you. I have the same question as below. Is the a difference between doing it in you TFSA with say the Sygnia S&P 500 or straight into VOO/VTI?
Yes the one is in USD (VOO) and the other is in rands (Sygnia). But honestly you can't go wrong with either. I use VOO because historically the dollar has outperformed the Rand. But you can't go wrong with either. Sygnia is great 😊
Typically from what I've seen Vanguard has the lowest management fees for their ETF VOO... Not sure if these other ones charge lower? Either way you can't go wrong. But I thought Vanguard charged the lowest fees.
Brokstock is good, and I like it because you can also get that free R100 for free. They're doing a lot of good things, that 7% interest is also great. So I'd say you could use them for sure. I used EE before then so I have a large holding from historically but I used both. But yes, for that extra R100 free Brokstock is a good option 😊

@@CasualCashI find the piecemeal buying in EE an issue when trying to phasein a lumpsum. Do you know whether Brokstock has the same restriction? Buying piecemeal via EE will also increase the transaction costs? I notice many negative comments regarding the long delays regarding withdrawals on Hellopeter. Any comments on this?
Ee is bad I invested in arc and when I wanted to withdraw my investment I had to do it R1000 per day and could not withdraw the full amount. Realty bad function on their part. Satrix does not do that
I've been investing in S&P500 since you started 2 years ago! Been investing every month and I'm up about 30%! 👍

That's brilliant! Great strategy and glad to hear it's working well. Yup I absolutely agree. I'm going to top up a bit this week as well 😊

Ah this sounds amazing! The perfect strategy, you can't go wrong with it. Over the next 10-12 years I'm sure the amounts will be staggering 😊🙌
@@CasualCash i Have also Max out my TFSA but its not paying dividends its just a capital growth.
Which TFSA do you use? I thought TFSA cant be used for purely offshore investments.
@@DeeDee25ism EasyEquities TFSA account - I invest 50/50 into Sygnia S&P 500 and 10x Total World.
The S&P500 is my favorite 😍

Sygnia is the cheapest 😊

How would it impact at the time of withdrawal? In terms of the tax implications. CGT would be applicable to the USD - ZAR and increase in share price?

Well you can activate both with absolutely no problem 😊. But for VOO you would need the US account 😊
Thank you.
So what S&P 500ETF do pay dividends?
Sygnia
Yes they do, about 1.3% currently 😊
How do you access the Vanguard s&p 500 ETF as a South African? From my knowledge it is only available on Sygnia and Satrix.
Well as a South African you can activate the USD account on EasyEquities, and then you can access the Vanguard one 😊 that's what I did.
