    Thanks for sharing. Noise from rain can be reduced if you put strapping under the roof. (Air space) Metal roofs can be pressure washed primed and repainted down the road when the paint fades or looks chalky. (After 20 or 30 years you get a new looking roof.)
    Metal roofs aren't perfect but are the way to go. Asphalt roofs are disposable throw away junk.

      Tom, would love to hear you opinion of Exposed fastener vs Standing seam. I know the obvious cost concerns but hear a lot of opposing views on durability etc.

    I live in Maine and I have heard of condensation forming on the underside of the roof causing premature failures . I just found your channel and if this is already covered please let me know and I’ll look for it, if not could you highlight condensation and metal roofs, myths, causes etc. Thanks for the content and information.

      Hello Chad, yes condensation getting into the wrong areas can present problems for lots of parts of your home. We just recently covered this on the channel; check out that video here: th-cam.com/video/aEahhztdWfY/w-d-xo.html

    Great information especially since I just put up a metal roof on my shed.

    Let us talk about underlayment for an aluminum roof. Is ice and water shield best? Doesn't it prevent breathability? Would deck armor be a better, breathable underlayment under a sweating aluminum shingle? Let's talk about Reinke shingles too. Thanks.

    I have a question. We have a pitched flat style roof on a hard built home with no way to add soffit vents. It has gables and a ridge vent cut from previous owner. I'll need a new roof and I'm thinking about a metal roof over the rolled EDPM. Should I keep the ridge vent even though a lot of people say they only work with soffits. It smells very fresh in the attic like air has circulated well regardless of what I've heard. No leaks or mold ever present for the 14 years I've been in the house. Is the ridge vent doing something or is this the gables working?

    What's not a myth is that insurance companies may not cover hail damage to metal roofs if the functionality hadn't been impaired. So you could end up with a beat up roof and no coverage.

      I'll take dents over busted up shingles and fighting over payment for the new roof.

      Hello, Bob! We came out with a new video about hail damage and insurance coverage last week if you want to hear our thoughts. Check it out here: bit.ly/metal-roofing-and-hail Thanks! -Thad

    METAL roofing over pressure treated fir strips? Will treat salts in wood rust through back side of uncoated back metal? Roof screws w gasket, ok for treated strips? My treated deck requires special coated screws, what to use on medal roof into treated strips? My supplier has no info. Logic says a problem putting steel against salts?

    Guy... aluminum oxide is not rust. You probably should brush up on understanding the properties of metal... if you are going to be in the metal roofing industry.

    • @TheMetalRoofingChannel
      @TheMetalRoofingChannel  ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right! The intent was to simplify the answer and explain how not all metal materials develop the typical "red rust" (iron oxide) that a steel roof could develop, but I failed to explain the unique qualities of aluminum oxide. "Rust" was the wrong word choice and I can see how that confuses the subject. This video is 4+ years old, could be time for an update! Thanks for commenting! -Thad

    Wow, first few seconds - "metal objects not attract lightening. Wow, stop right there, does this guy ever heard of Lightening Rod? After this I don't know if anything at all is true, even if I know nothing about it.

      This info comes from weather.gov and other sources.
      "Myth: Structures with metal, or metal on the body (jewelry, cell phones,Mp3 players, watches, etc), attract lightning.
      Fact: Height, pointy shape, and isolation are the dominant factors controlling where a lightning bolt will strike. The presence of metal makes absolutely no difference on where lightning strikes. Mountains are made of stone but get struck by lightning many times a year..."
