    The Outback is technically a wagon. The Forester is a SUV. We chose the premium Forester. It is taller and the seat does not sit low as it does in the Outback. Entry and exit the vehicle is easier for me, because the seat sits taller. I have arthritis in my knees so bad, that the low seating is nearly impossible. We live our Forester. We also own an Impreza 5 door, and we have a empreza sedan on order.

      This was a selling point for me too. As I'm getting older, climbing in and out of my Avalon/Camry hasn't been what it used to be. I looked at the RAV but it just didn't feel as roomy for my height of 6'3. I really like the feel of the Forester and how I can slide right in and out and it just fits me better, height-wise. My Forester Touring is on order.

    I own a 2018 outback. If I remove the passenger headrest I can lower the front seat giving me storage from the rear all the way up to the dashboard. That has been very helpful for me.

    We have a 2017 outback, our daughter has a 2020 Forester. We like the size of the Outback, but if we were to consider new, the forester controls (more analog, less touch screen) would give the edge to the Forester. We particularly like the center dash board hump of the Forester, looking to the floor for time, temp etc takes your eyes off the road. Same is true for almost all controls and readouts being on the OB touchscreen. Distracted driving is Dangerous driving.

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I haven't always been a fan of the giant touch screen display in the Outback. But only more recently liked it as I've become more familiar with the controls. Starting out I hated not having analog controls for the heating and air

    We moved from a 2017 Forester to a 2022 Outback. Love it. Rides more like a car/station wagon. Quieter & smooths bumpy roads. A million adjustments on the Outback. I like the driver seat bottom extension, the extra cargo length with the seat up, and the feeling of a bigger car. I miss the easy seat heater buttons, the plastic rear wheel covers (not just fuzzy cloth), and the panoramic roof. Both are good.

    • @97I30T
      @97I30T ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Maggie Honestly, the I think Outback is actually more comfortable for tall people than the Forester is. It's a bigger vehicle than the Forester overall and I personally find that lower seating position is actually more comfortable for tall people with long legs. I'm 6'5" and I have no issues with fitting in an Outback. They have tons of room inside. Sit in both a Forester and an Outback if you can though.
      Also, for what it's worth, we have a 2013 Outback and a 2016 Forester. The Outback is way more comfortable than the Forester is. Of course that may be different with the newer models, but the Outback has always been a slightly nicer vehicle overall than the Forester.

      @aimxdy8680 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Maggie I’m 6’2 and 180 lbs and I fit perfectly in an Audi RS3 which is a compact sedan, the low seating position allows for more headroom and feels more comfortable to me, higher seating makes me feel like i’m driving a Cruise ship, makes the ride very floaty.

    Good review; I have a 2015 Forester. Once factor: you do not have to bow your head down to get into the Forester. You do have do put your head down for entry to the Outback. Forester is perfect size and setup for me.

    I had a three way, panoramic moon roof on my 06 outback. My understanding is that when they introduced the swinging roof rails, people kept dropping them on the moon roofs and breaking them. So they removed the bigger roof from the outbacks.

    Just looking at the 2023 versions here in Melbourne Australia. Great review, the only one that really showed the seating position difference. Leaning towards the outback for the XT motor, and a bit of differential to what we currently have. The 8" screen is too small these days, though the new 2024 forester has gone to the 11" i think, but who knows when it will actually land in Aus. Looking at upgrading wife's 2012 SH Forester. BTW I also currently drive a Subaru, MY16 VA sti.

    Thanks for the comparison, Alex. Can you speak to the options for cross rails for the Forester? My Subaru website in Canada offers two cross rail options. One is the Areo which is shorter in length and runs between the roof rails. The Thule Universal extends beyond the roof rails and footprint of the roof a bit for added width. Are there limitations to the Areo cross rails? Can a 37” wide canoe mount on them?

      Best advice I have for that is to ask a retailer near you if they have a service loaner or used option that you can drive. Most service loaners are going to be 2021. Even if they only have a used 2020 model, this will look and drive the same as the 2021 model

    Am so impressed with Subaru's cladding and styling. From the roof racks you can tell if it's a Subaru. 🥰🤗 Ever since I laid eyes on a two-tone Outback in 2003 on a long road trip to Alaska, Canada/US Rockies, I've been crazy about the brand. Over the yrs it has evolved into an attractive sporty, rugged-recreational-adventure- all-purpose vehicle loved by outdoorsies, with its signature AWD, and mind you, earning high, if not the highest, IIHS ratings. Love, Iove Subaru.

    I like the taller seating of the Forester, but I like ventilated seats and more power of the Outback. I probably will have to wait for the 2023 models. I currently have a 2014 Ram 1500 which I will keep, but I need something smaller and more fuel-efficient for my work rides. I considered the Crosstrek, but from what I understand it's more of a hatchback and sits lower.

    I am moving from a 2020 Forester Sport to an Outback Wilderness. Reasons were: Don't like what Subaru did to the Forester Wilderness edition for starters, but also, after 2 years of running with the 2020, I feel that I often have to lower the back seat to get that 3-4 inch that's always seem to be missing when I load big boxes. Also, the taler windshield is kinda hard on the eyes when the day is really bright/sunny and you always have to lower the sunscreen so in the end, not really useful.

  • @bb_lz9790
    @bb_lz9790 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    As was mentioned, the Outback sits more like a car, the Forester sits more chair-like like an SUV (I suppose, it was our first one) or dare I write it, minivan. I find the back seats in the Forester far more roomy and comfortable than any other Subaru, even the larger, far more expensive models.
    When we bought our 2015 Forester Touring, my wife probably wanted a CR-V more, but the Forester has more room for the driver, in my opinion, which is important for a taller and shall we say "big boned" person like me.

    • @bb_lz9790
      @bb_lz9790 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Maggie We did look at the Outback. I prefer the seating position in the Forester as it's more chair like as opposed to car like. Last year, when the Forester was in having the Nav replaced (because the Blutooth died and that requires the whole Nav system to be replaced...thank goodness for the extended warranty we bought), I sat in every current Subaru model from Crosstrek to Ascent. I was quite surprised that the only one I was really comfortable in both front and back seats was the Forester.
      I haven't tried to load an Outback, but the Forester holds a lot, while being pretty small. For big loads, we still have our 2004 Odyssey, which is cavernous.

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey Milcah, this ultimately comes down to whatever you feel is the best decision for yourself. I'll give you a few points to think about though. First of all, 15,500 miles is low for a 2017 so you're likely going to be in a good spot from an equity position. Trading your car in now should give you a higher than usual offer. Just like you get the benefit from an inflated market from the trade in value, you do have the disadvantage of a higher than usual selling price on the purchase side (whether you trade into a new subaru or a toyota, most are being sold at MSRP or above with the lack of inventory). The last point I'll bring up is that every car manufacturer is going to have recalls from time-to-time and with the newer tech in modern cars there are more things to go wrong. Although I'm partial to Subaru, Toyota makes a great car as well. let me know if you have anymore questions and I'd be happy to help!

    Whats the difference ? In the UK the Outback has a 2.5 engine and its not a hybrid either so that rules out the Forester. I had the last shape Outback it was fantastic, comfy, sounded great and plenty enough power if you are a good driver and know how to use CVTs properly. Id have the new model if I had to get a new car. Currently run a 65 plate Impreza hatchback, a rare sight on UK roads. Excellent car.

    We love our Outback but it is sluggish with only 182 hp. What’s worse is that it only gets 22 mpg on the freeway with the cruise set at 73-75 mph.
    I’m glad we didn’t buy the XT, as we would probably only get 18-20 mpg on the freeway.
    Our 2011 Ford Ranger XLT super cab 4X4 with the 4.0 liter engine and 5spd A/T gets 24mpg on the freeway with the cruise set at 75mph.

    Out of all the Subaru related info-channels, this one beats them all, hands down!! I have for about 2-years now, been watching Subaru content channels. The specific video I'm referring to, is the one I just watched before this one. It was the video explaining why Subaru is so safe! I've never even once, heard such a detailed explanation about Subaru safety, as I heard in this one. I am now armed with the information I've been seeking for so long about Subaru safety, such to the point, that I can adequately explain to anyone who were to ask me, why I bought an ugly Subaru!! Because boy, to me, they're ugly pastors looking cars. But I'll take an ugly car that is inherently so safe any day of the week, over a more handsome, or cooler looking car.

      Hey Alex. I just wanted to share another Subaru nugget. I saw an article about Subaru safety about a year ago. The article however didn't really explain the technology behind Subaru safety. But what was mentioned, was that a fire rescue unit responded to an accident wherein a Subaru was involved. The article said that the fire rescue guys attempted to use the infamous "jaws-of-life", to cut the metal around the trapped person in the Subaru, and were unsuccessful! Point being, fire rescue said they had never encountered a motor vehical that withstood the jaws of life! The article didn't say how they freed the trapped person, but something about the metal/steel of the Subaru withstood them. I thought about that, when I heard you mention the Subaru crumble -zones! And yes, though the car was badly damaged, the trapped persons life was spared.I'll take a Suub any day over a Ferrari!!

    Alex, while I don't need to use a wheel chair; I am a disabled veteran & currently drive a 2016 Forester. My wife has a 2016 Legacy. I find that it is much easier to get in & out of my Forester vs. her Legacy due to the ground clearance the Forester has. I just ordered a '22 Outback Limited last week, and I am slightly concerned about the lower seat cushion position on the Outback. You mentioned this in your comparison, but can the seat in the Outback be set at least as high as the Forester in the Foresters lowest position? My Limited will not have a sunroof like my Forester does; hopefully that will help. I currently have the drivers seat in the Forester in its lowest position because I am 5'11" tall. I went with the Limited just for that purpose because of the driver's seat memory. I hope that the Outback's drivers seat can at least be adjusted up with the power seat controls to match the Foresters seat height. I hope you can understand my question....lol...thanks in advance!

    • @alexpmo
      @alexpmo  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yep, I think I understand what you're asking. The Outback seat in it's highest position should be as high as the Forester in it's lowest position. It might even be higher.

      @@alexpmo well….what I meant to ask was…..can the Outback seat be raised to at least as high as the Forester’s seat in the Forester’s lowest position? I just need them to be about equal. I don’t need the outback’s seat to go any higher than that. Thanks so much for answering my lengthy question and for helping!

    Getting ready to move over to Subaru from Toyota and was wondering how the Forester Touring will fare in local mountains here in Southern California. It stands to reason the Forester (obviously) doesn't have the get up and go that the turbo vehicles will have but that seems strange considering that Subaru SUVs are seen as very outdoorsy vehicles. Interesting that the more station wagon-like Subaru gets more power through its turbo option than the Forester which is more SUV-like. Can anyone comment on mountain driving in the Forester? Is it really that much of a struggle to "get up the hill." So to speak. Or will it be just fine. Just not what some drivers would want when powering it up the mountain.

Her Forester feels much bouncier and truck like. Same with her previous 2004 Forester. Forester folks always comment on how quiet and posh feeling my Outback is. My 2020 XT Touring is just luxurious. The CD player only plays CDs from what I'm aware of. The Forester is the only one standard with the CD player and you can get it installed as an option on the Outback. If you want to listen to music from an MP3 player, ipod, or phone, this can be done with bluetooth. You can also connect your phone to the USB cable to listen to music from Apple carplay or Andoid auto.
