I changed planes once in Atlanta coming back from the Caribbean, does that count? Austin being a Tifton Georgia boy he can sing this song and mean the words. Yeah, Ray's version is iconic, I've loved it for decades, it's something special to me and my late wife so there's a big place in my heart for it. If, and that's a big if, Ray sang this at a hearing before the Georgia Senate I think he was being tapped as discriminatory, but when he sang this all that melted away and embarrassed those who called him into question. And for some reason there was some awards presented either then or shortly afterwards. I don't remember what they were but I think it was, like State Person or Favorite Son something appropriate for a son of Georgia. And I'm sure someone could Google it and get the fact's.
