Husqvarna 572XP (winning) vs Stihl ms500i R

  • Filmed in late November or early December, 2020.
As mentioned, same B&C as last time. It was not tooooo long after the initial run with these two where they were both stock.
The 572 came around nicely. I was well pleased. With any luck so Will the owner.
Also as mentioned, Insane-O SS level of zippkit was "applied" the 572xp in the Saw Shop MakeOver operation.
I did make note of the 500i getting the short end of the stick with the knots. From what I've seen in here, it might cost a second or so. The good deal is that the 572 picked up enough time to "out maneuver" a saw with 1.1 more hp.
    Timed runs:
    Stock 500i @13,380 went 15.77 down and 14.65 up.
Insane-O SS 572 @ 13,390 went 12.57 down and, me leaning on it 13.23 up.
I'm still doing custom saw modifications. I may or may not be available "soonly". Please shoot me an email if you are interested. Also, I'm can be a week or more behind on answering.
    Thanks for watching.

    Hello.
In the continuing saga of R&D, here we see the 572 in zipped form as it came around from the Saw Shop MakerOver nicely. I was happy with the result. The description area had the timed runs, down the one hundredths of a second.

Master, is it possible to use a 1:33 mixture? Will this cause more carbon deposits?

      @hotsaws101  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sensei948 hi.
I don't consider myself a master, but thanks.
Depends upon the oil. Or possibly the components in the additive package.
      Specifically, the cleaner portion.
The base stock is a consideration because they range in quality quite a bit. This translates to the class 4 & 5 oils are a much higher quality and burn more clean as a general rule.
Needle adjustment will also be a factor.
Running really lean on the high speed needle, the operator better thinking about compensation via an increased concentration on oil to fuel ratio.
A lot of idling and/or ½ throttle use will see more build up.
Whether or not the air cleaner is kept clean to fairly clean will have a lesser affect, but some bearing on the process.
Clear as Mudd this one is. Sorry I couldn't be more succinct.
      Thanks for watching.

I like watching all your reviews and videos testing out different saws.
I like STIHL and Husqvarna in certain models there’s something I don’t understand about the
500i is the air filter set up is rubbish you spend
you’re hard earned money and still get wood chip
Particles get past your air filter and oiler on bar & chain is lacking.
As for the 572 & old school 395 it’s best air filter set up I have seen I would pick the 572xp over the 500i.
Good job 👍 on 572 it sounds great rips hard.
I’m running a stock 572 xp love the saw using
Maxima Formula K2 I run it at 40:1 ratio.
What ratio would you recommend if you don’t mind me asking?

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tony hi.
      YEY!
It's the same on all the pro saws. Thank goodness for the Maxy's.
You have to lower the roll pin stop in the bottom of the oiler housing (so it is level with the oiler housing) to get the full rotation - max oiling capabilities - of the control bolt in a lot of the newer Stihl saws.
You would be far better off using the H1-R from Bel-Ray.
I run ~ 48/50:1 personally. I don't "recommend". At times I suggest a different oil and tell you what concentration I blend.
K2 was developed (read reformulated ~ '03/04) to work optimally in water cooled, race, motocross bikes. DeCoster requested certain specs form 4 or 5 of the oil manufactures from what I've been told. the K2 was the closest in the onset. Maxima "reformulated" the K2 accordingly. So, even though Carmichael was "showing" other oil companies stickers on his 250mx ride, the oil was the K2.
No testing on 2-cycle saw engines was performed in the testing phases for the reformulated K2, or 1st gen, according to the tech at Maxima. Whereas, there was testing of the H1-R on 2-cycle chainsaws according to the tech personnel at Bel-Ray.
      But,,, I digress...
I tried the K2 in the early '00s before the reformulation. I revisited it again ~ '15/16. It is better than some of the other choices but, for a saw application - especially when talking about a high tolerance & hot running smog saw - the H1-R is a far superior option. The Road Race Motul, and possibly the Off Highway Motul are also better choices than the K2 but not necessarily better than the H1-R. I would also use the HP2 from Honda before running the K2.
From seeing the internals of a fair number of saws looked at in a lot of years using a majority of the choices out there now, all the while having used most of the upper choices personally in my saw/s, the four of the above mentioned options for over the counter purchase are the only ones I would use.
      Best of luck.
      Thanks for watching.

      Mark hi.
I'm thankful they redesigned the pistol grips from what was seen on the saws from the '70s, '80s, '90s, and early '00s myself.
Barring a weird mechanical failure, a long time. This of course is provided the operator is :
      A) Using a top tier mix oil.
      a) the are only a few in that category imho.
      B) Taking care of maintenance as they are supposed to be.
      a) Air filters are a given.
      b) Plugs in zipped saw only last ~ 30 hours before the
positive side of the electrode starts to decay and
      deform.
      C) Has chains the will keep the engine rpms under control.
      a) Teeth sharp, but sharp for the wood species/density
      b) Stops/raker/riders/depth gauges set to the right height
so the chain feeds but at the same time regulates
      engine speed.
      D) Using a decent fuel with a minimum 98/100 octane is
      highly recommended.
      a) Draining the fuel during prolonged periods of sitting is
      a given here.

Well the 500i is skinnier, shorter both vertically and horizontally. The powerhead weight of the the 500 is 13.9 vs 14.5 for the husky.. that.6 grows to 1.1 lbs according to my man in the video.. theres no arguing the husky was faster. But the husky has been modded. Its a screamin demon... When yall figure out how to make the 500i scream, its gonna take down everything in its class.. im sorry.. but after owning both saws... After about the 5th tsnk of fuel, the 500i really woke up from what was already a very light nap and out cut my husky by 2.9 seconds.. was my test flawed, well duh.. but i made every effort to make it fair.. and i didnt need to refer to my partner to know my husqvarna had just been smoked.i swear the 500 just continues to get stronger. It seems to like being run hard and beat up . And after slinging both all day, theres NO CONTEST. The small size and light weight of the 500 makes YOU want to use IT. wheny warranty runs out. Im gonna buy a new one and use this one to experiment. Not sure if the electronics on it will nullify a port job or not. Im gonna custom fab a 2 chamber " muffler" as well.. not sure how the brain of the saw will react.. but I GUARANTEE YOU im gonna find out.

John hi. I weigh the saws on my hand me down bathroom scales for comparison, at the time of the saw-offs. I state that they are not "Weights & Measures" accurate. They are relative to that time though.
Also, it is a known quantity by those that follow the process that the weighs are very seldom completely accurate in the printed literature.
Husqvarna saws are one of the worst as well.
Additionally, I'm weighing full wrap version saws. Not the ½ wrap model.
I made no bones about the fact that the 572 was modded. This is the second pitting of these two saws. You have to watch the 1st saw-off session where they are both in stock form to get a comparison between how the 572 came alive after the zippkit was installed - the sole purpose of this video.
Regarding the "When yall figure out how to make the 500i scream, its gonna take down everything in its class.." - there are videos on this channel showing the 500i in demon mode. My Torque Monster 461 takes it. My 461 also burns EXPNENETIALLY less fuel doing so.
      This video -
      th-cam.com/video/6eFaGLm5xWE/w-d-xo.html
shows an "upgraded" 6421 Makita taking a 500i. Both were taken to the limit for what I do. They weigh the same for all intents & purposes.
Don't get me wrong, the 500i does well. But, it, like all other saws, has flaws. For a busheler, chasing the fuel can does not a good volume day make. Well imho anyway.
      Thanks for watching.

I'm a husky/jonsered guy. I was going to buy a 572 until a work mate bought one he said it's a piece of shit. Hard to start and just had a few problems here and there. I'm contemplating getting a 500i, I've heard alot of good things about them.
    Iv currently got a 2186 that's 15years old

Need to be bucking , hickory , beech , locust , Osage orange , something with some substance, that really tells the story , love my 592, but it's a gas hog .

Or,,, you can throw a long bar on and get about the same result. In the end, it's all about how the chain is set up. I mean, since a 16" b & c sucks up ½ a hp. Then extrapolating, a 32" b & c gobbles up somewhere around 1 hp.
      Thanks for watching.

Well,,, except for the engineering team that came up with it. They LOVE the design. Extremely proud would be apt.
But, they don't actually use saws all day, everyday, year in & year out to experience the shortcomings...
      Thanks for watching.
