Husqvarna 572xp vs. Stihl ms461

    Just before Easter. Thankful for the sacrifice that was given at Calvary.
    My first test runs with a Husqvarna 572xp. Really smooth power delivery would be my initial thought. A bit deceiving actually. If it has the "leaked" 39mm stroke number then the 572 might just be a force once properly "tuned".
    In the cuts it felt good and even seemed to have a little bit down low when I pulled on the pistol grip about 2/3 of the way through. Did the same, best I could anyway, with the 461.
    Upon viewing the times for the runs, both came in around 22 seconds in the first attempt where I let them both feed themselves, and 20 seconds in the last taste test. Seems as though the 572 was just a fuzz quicker (I did mention it had deceiving power already) in the second run where a little pressure was applied the pistol grip.
    I mentioned at around 12:32 that the 462 might be a little quicker. After viewing the timed runs here and the 462 vs. 46

    Interesting Jack, considering the slightly larger displacement of the 461 the 572 did seem quite happy and the AT doing it's job well ? Nice job on the welding / fab work ! At least when you get them on the shelf the 572 will have a full wrap as per 372 / 576 with the same falling spikes as those.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dave hi. The 572 seemed to run alright here. maybe just a fuzz quicker in the second "bite". I applied a little pressure to the pistol grips of each saw in run #2 just to see. My boy did do a nice job on the handle bar fab job so I will have a good set for some tree killing operation.
      Thanks for dropping by.

      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      African Twin hi. These are both completely stock so they need to be quite to pass the decibel noise regs. I will guess that the 572 will sound much different once zipped. The 461s can be heard in the videos and are a know quantity once zipped.
      Thanks for watching.

    Can you do a video on your chain grinder and how you do it. ie; the different kinds of grinds you use. Sweet video!!

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Bryan hi. It is the way I set up the angles for the most part - and knowing where to have the chain positioned for a particular wood type/density. The slightest movement in the positioning will yield a little bit different cutting chain. It may take several days in a new strip to get it "dialed" in completely. Just showing how the chain is ground won't help a guy much.
      It's in the grinder set up.
      Thanks for watching.

      Ray Duerksen I agree ☝️ it’s a Ford vs Chevy debate - however there are things about each saw that are superior to the other ... if a company wood build a saw taking the best feature(s) of the STIHL and Husky and incorporating them into a new saw I’m reasonably confident they wood OWN the market for chainsaws !

    Finally an inboard clutch......just watchin that chain fly off during the swap was the most epic part...I've hated the husky chain removal ritual since the 1600s when they sawed the timber for the ark...and husky saws were in diapers lol

    • @Tony.795
      @Tony.795 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Most husky saws above 70ccs have an inboard clutch. I prefer them too because its easier to swap chains and drive sprockets. Theres no way you can replace a busted drive sprocket in the woods on an outboard clutch.

  • @bryanmarks4070

    Hey jack. Had a question. I work for the forest service in California and I’m about to buy some Long bars for our falling saws. I’m looking at the Stihl and Oregon lightweight in a 36 inch. Does the flex come into play and throw off your cuts matching up when your advancing your tip around to the far side of the tree. Thanks again for all the cool video keep it up.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bryan hi. It depends on your chain - especially with the Oregon bar. The chain has to be sharp and feed pretty straight with the Oregon bar. Not so much with the Stihl bar. The Oregon bar is much less weight wise which make it easier to take along on the army marches but they bend with far less force. Can be bent back on the fly a little easier but the rails are softer than the Stihls and so there is the consideration of truing the rails more often.
      I use both, but in purposeful applications.......
      Blessing on this day.

    Hello Jack, I am a Timber cutter/logger and I do watch and keep up on your video post but I never think to message you. Which saw out of the 572 and 462 feels faster in the cut with same bar and chain? Thank you and take care! Garrett.

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Garret hi. I ran them both against the same 461 to get a relative comparison. I will say that you can apply more pressure to the 572 and it will "hunker down" a little bit more than the 462. But that can be expected from the differences in the engine designs.
      Thanks for watching.

    Right On Brother - Chains Saws are fun but Thanks for word on the Master wood cutter trimmer! As far as stock configuration I'm looking at like new 572xp vs like new Sthil 462 not much difference money wise - any recommend appreciate- jlo

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jack hi. You never gave me any details of the application, bar length, etc.
      th-cam.com/video/Re15AuX_e7U/w-d-xo.html is an overview.
      I like the 462 with a 30" bar. With the shorty stroke it is all on top.
      I ran the 572 with a 33" bar (110 drover 3/8) a lot. Seem like it has a bit more down low even though it is giving up a little over 1.6cc.
      Big difference weight wise too.
      Thanks for watching.

  • @fabzacres-blackcat
    @fabzacres-blackcat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Looks like the 572 is a 70.6 cc 48mm bore x 39mm stroke ; in contrast the 372 that is being replaced by this saw is 70.7 cc 50mm bore x 36mm stroke ... no word on price here in the USA but I can only assume that you are gonna PAY a small fortune for either the 462c or the 572xp ... as for me ... I’m stocking up on the 461 model - hopefully the 461 will be heavily discounted when the 462c comes out but ya never can tell lol 😆

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For those that will zip the saw, the 461 has way more potential. The 462 will be a 28" bar slinging machine.
      Thanks for watching.

    • @fabzacres-blackcat
      @fabzacres-blackcat 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      hotsaws101 to the best of my knowledge; the 461 is 76.5cc 6.03 hp ; the 462c 72.2 5.90 hp and the 572xp is 70.6 and 5.77 hp .... besides the obvious displacement advantage enjoyed by the 461 over the 462c and the 572xp “wood” it be fair to say the 461 even though based on an older design ; is superior to these new “auto - tronic new fangled epa friendly smog compliant saws “ ?

    Husky 372xp x-torq or the 576xp? Im undecided in which one to get. What are your thoughts?

    • @hotsaws101
      @hotsaws101  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      M hi. You will have to (hopefully) test drive both for yourself to get a feel for the subtle differences.
      The 576 is touted as having more power. But, it's also more poundage. That will be a consideration for some.
      The 576 has a (conceptually anyway) full circle crank. It operates more smoothly as result
      The 372 is less weight but,
      at least on paper, is down on power. They run alright all things considered.
      Again, test drive them both and see what suits your fancy.
      Thanks for watching.

      Yeah I wish I could test em out. But the only husky dealer here in western nm is an Ace Hardware. I was set on the ms461 because of the access to a Stihl dealer but i found I can get the 372xp for about $800 compared to $1000 for the 461. Decisions, decisions. Haha thanks for the feedback and whatever I decide im sure Ill be contacting you down the road to work your magic on my saw. Stay safe and god bless.

      M hi.
      Hope your 4th is good.
      Power wise, there is no comparison between a stock 461 and xt 372. The 372 is down .6 hp in stock form and they do not respond nearly as well to a good sawshop makeover, period. If I wanted pure grunt, then the 461 is the only way to go.

    My Stihl 261 broke down (crancshaft) after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.

    The saws take a while to break in the 562 does like. Higher rpm seeming like the 572 here after I did muffler work it start pulling a little more grunt in the mid rpm it shifted the ponies a little down I'm not sure if it's really any stringer because it made it up in rpms to me so it's really preference and a little bit slower could mean longer. Work life or slightly slower work days take a pic lol . Back to preference the 565 will interesting as husqvarna said it may be better with long bars a slower Running saw with pepi mid range
