- Patch 14.0 and the wipe has completely upended what most players know about armor. Some of the best armors in the game are no longer viable, while armors folks never looked at are some of the best available out there.
I take into account protection, availability, mobility, and durability in ranking every armor and armored rig in Tarkov.

I'm running the Press armor with Class 4-5, it always comes back from Insurance, easy to repair. It takes a beating, for me feels like Gzhel

Really appreciate you explaining how you evaluate and consider the pros and cons of the different armors. Makes it easier to understand the new system and for me to decide on what armors to use without just memorizing and following to the tier list to a T.

I feel like the only person who hasn’t been armpit shot this wipe. Despite sinking a lot of hours in, the ole “head, eyes” is still doing me in the most.

I got insta onetapped by 3 scavs 5 seconds in to the raid on streets while i was juiced the fck up. Right armpit onetap by shotgun. I didnt know scavs spawned the same exact second I spawned and I heard 3 people rushing outside my building so i rush out and immediately gets onetapped, busted ass scavs shouldnt be allowed to have shotguns.....

Same. I played already more than 100 raids in this wipe and didn't get killed in armpit a single time. Also only 1 time was killed in neck. I don't understand why so many people are crying about new hitboxes.
BSG already made changes since this video released - many of the rigs and plate carriers that had level 3 aramids/soft armor were stealth nerfed to level 2.
Gzhel continues to be one of the best armors for those seeking great protection with style, and even more so with the snow this season.
I guess the problem is that the base armour even without the plates it ridicilously expensive because of it's use for quests(buying from flea that is)
Too bad you literally cannot aquire it other than paying 500k on the flea just to die to 1 bullet haha :D
Just use flora armours with whatever plates u want. No1 will pick them up and u can use lvl 5 plates
i got 2 shot by ps in in the chest, so absolutely no.

The work you and Gigabeef have done over the last week or two on testing and researching armour is invaluable to the player base.
Found an error: The Korund is actually only lvl 2 Aramid all around, which is why it's so light with plates inserted. Please take note of that as it massively changes how powerful the armor is.
Like the aramid is saying level 3 but acting like a level 2 armour? do the lvl 5 plates till work?

Kirasa is S tier to me, 0 movement speed penalty, load it with two monoclete plates and it only weighs like 5.7kg total with level 4 protection + neck/throat and only -2% movement total. You can run level 5 plates in it, and it always comes back in insurance.
Compare that to something like the Korund, it starts lighter but even without plates it starts with a -5% movement.
It's like a superior version of what Trooper armor was
Yeah idk why he ranked it so low, he did that just because it's class 2 but then he proceeds to rank other class 2 much higher than it. Considering it's also one of the cheapest it deserves A tier imo
i always find myself slapping the kirasa on for general use as well, it's just so easy to run. speaking of insurance, i also stealth up the 6b23-1 (the one that comes with the unique level 3 plate) with the korund armor for better mobility, and it's come back every time i've lost one
I have been strictly running Kirasa with polyethene plates 10/10 can recommend
I've chosen the press vest over the kirasa due to the side plates (a level 5 side plate saved me once so I feel obligated to use them lol) but I never even considered movement penalties. I'll reconsider thanks to your comment.
@@corvidconfidential8826i think gigabeef tested in his armor vid that the press had a problen that its front plate doesnt protect, maybe already been fixed but maybe something to look onto

If we had better hitboxes (like in Rising Storm 2) that were accurately modeled after real vital areas, then the plate system would be a hundred times better and the lack of soft armor coverage wouldn't be such a big issue. I pray that BSG makes better hitboxes in the near future

I was saying the same for a long time. W/o vitals real armor doesn't make much sense.
I'm not 100% certain but I think it's something that may come, I could totally see them implementing some kind of pseudo-solution to adding vitals, where if the bullet skims the body (coming at an angle that is very shallow to the surface) the bullet would do much less damage but much more chance to cause a bleed.
They have the tech to make helmets and surfaces ricochet, so they should have the ability to copy that system and make bullets skim the body.
Isn't it partially implemented already or was for some time? There was a 100% oneshot if you hit heart area and bullet went inside.

the floral uley rig that is tier 4 has been AMAZING to me.
30k on the flea and i haven't died to a single thorax shot in it after maybe 20 deaths.
I kept being shot in the shoulders by PP/BP ammo and now i leave fights with like 3 shots in the shoulder with these beasts now! for so cheap it is 10/10

The Korund is actually only lvl 2 soft armour. I just take the plates out and put them into the lower tier green one as it will be looted less often. Also, you can get the defender armour quite low weight with certain plat options...

When it comes to the level 6 front and back plates for the Killa armor, I have found both of those plates in boxes on reserve.

Very informative, thank you. I also value movement much higher than tanky protection. I had similar impressions to some armors due to their great coverage but I never considered plates class, so this gave me a full perspective on armor now. Thanks a lot!

Just a heads up; you can find plates in the same crates you can find rigs and armors in. Also there is a class 6 ceramic back plate for the 6b13/Killa armors (Granit 4RS ballistic plates back)

I just found the level 5 Granit 4 ballistic back plate of Killas Armor in the saferoom exfil on Interchange.
Apparently it can spawn on its own at high tier loot locations.

12:20 aside from the side plates and rear groin, the redut and defender have the exact same hitboxes. The visual model mean nothing. Although it might look like the redut has more protection, it has the same protection. Right now in Tarkov all built in armor with a certain armor area, has the same exact hitboxes as any other armor with those same hitboxes.
Was it also AirWing that confirmed the in built armor hitboxes are just cosmetic, and the coverage was just the old system but subdivided?
@@AxiamWolfe I did a lot of the "ground work" for gigabeef's video on hitboxes. From the testing I've done the new armor system works *almost* the exact same as the current helmet system. Where any helmet with "ears" for example, have the exact same hitbox over the ears.

Been running Thor since watching this video and ive had some great fights and won a good amount of them. As a solo i need that extra bit of survivability, when im taking hits im realising its only arm damage and not chest etc. Thank you for this video, making fights winable!

I'm a bit confused with the statements about the Trooper (and 6B13): In this video, it's implied that each armor really only protects 1:1 the pixels of the body it is over. While Gigabeef showed the exact opposite being true: That there are a whole lot *more* hitboxes but in general, if the little "Armor Areas" on the armor says X is protected, that it is indeed fully protected, best example was the arm protection with the Zabralo. Curious what the consensus is now?
He did actual testing.. hours of it.. shooting in specific areas with the armors. He knows what he is talking about.
@@JoshDoes He does on some of these, and not on others.. rating the 6B13 and the 6B23 the same makes entirely no sense. one has Class 4 plates front and back... one has class 3 plate front only and both have level 2 Aramid everywhere.. explain that Flattop simp.
@@JoshDoes And so did Gigabeef? And showed the opposite. Hitboxes are covered no matter the actual model. Look up his "How the new armor system really works" video.

Makes sense why most class 6 armors suck. I found one in raid, put it on, died to someone with RIP ammo. All shots hit right below the neck and I was confused why it didn’t block it (due to coverage). Was so confused on why I died to RIP ammo with class 6 armor UNTIL now. Thanks for the info. Keep it up

The class 5 Ceramic back plate for the 6b133 can be found in stashes as well.
I hope with the patches to come we get more neck equipment and different style amour/rigs
Long Line actually unlocks the TT SK rig now. but you can craft an ars arm cpc in the lavatory now. The craft is actually very nice, i just use the rigs in my stash for space and take out the plates
It almost seems like they need to separate the chest hitbox between the area where your vital organs are vs the areas bordering it. My understanding is that's the reason plate carriers are shaped the way they are irl. If the health pool hitting vitals and the outsides of the chest are the same then carriers will never be good unless they cover more than they visually appear. However, if they do that, then what was the point of the rework.
Absolutely. Maybe they should have like a "gradient" of damage where middle does more than the sides, depending on what angle you get shot from. Like let's say you get shot from front but it scrapes your armpit, you shouldn't instantly die. But if someone shoots straight from side and it goes towards the middle of your insides, it would.

Yeah there needs to be zones of chest hitbox, i shouldnt be killed by a 556 going through my shpulder repeatedly, like im sorry what exactly killed me in that scenario ? Magic ?

The Killa Back Plate can be found in raid, i found some on Labs in weapon crates.
Have you tested all of these? With the way it seems the armor hit-boxes work a trooper and slick should have the exact same coverage. They have the same areas covered by soft armor and have the same plate form; only difference would be soft armor durability.
Edit: apologies, slick has class 3 soft while trooper is only 2. Area coverage should still be the same though.

I don't know how i feel about the small thor as it lacks the neck protection and some of the C tier rigs would fall into D for me.

Whatever people like/hate of the new armor system, BSG has accomplished something really incredible in terms of realism.
Yes, it is incredible how BSG finds news ways to send people back to lobby by making the high tier armors completely useless just to make the life cycle of the wipe a bit longer

In regard to 6B13. I've definitely did found a class 6 ceramic back plate yesterday in a jegers stash
It would be great if we could stack up straight plate carriers with certain soft armors much like it was back in alpha and at the cost of ergo/mobility. It's not an uncommon sight in real life.
Glad he said "if it was a class three I could bump it up to here (c to b tier)" because they changed the aramid in the goon CPC GE from 2 to 3 after this.

The only things I want changed for armor; cleaner hit boxes, vitals zones, and the ability to wear plate carriers over pure soft armor.

Tmk aramid works like the old armor system, meaning any aramid covering a certain hitbox will protect that entire hitbox and plates have their hitboxes actually simulated. I feel like this would significantly change a lot of your rankings.
by crafting the press armor, you get a free lv3 back plate. That is the lightest plate in the world.
I use those to swap out the backplate for some of the heavier rigs.
i personally have had really good experiences with the trooper this wipe and its my go to budget light armor
you can get granit 4 lvl 6 plates from in-raid, have found atleast 2 of them this wipe
I've also been able to find class 6 for the back plates of the Killa/6B13 Armor
the press only takes (in front) diamond shape russian plates (like all ZHUKK armors and 6b33 variants), the kirasa takes the most common shape, so it's better and I think it should be B.

IMO they really need to make a critical organ hitbox on the inside of the torso. If you hit the thorax from the front and hit the edge of the thorax it shouldn't deal full damage. However if you hit the soft armor from the side and the bullet goes into the center of the torso it would deal full damage. This would help out alot of these weaker armors imo.
Gimme that heart hit box and that lung hitbox. My snb stockpile is growing
I second this, I feel like it would give alot more value to the plate carriers and rigs considering most of them kind of blow right now. Having a plate that covers center mass is nice, but will sometimes mean absolutely nothing if a grazing shot will do just as much damage.
This kind of hitbox system is completely possible in Tarkov's engine too, a modder for SPT (Single Player Tarkov) made a mod way before 0.14 which includes zones around the body that deal more/less damage based on how close to the center it is.
They even had completely functional hitboxes for the spine/heart that could one shot with weaker ammo.
You can make it super easy and have minimal impact on performance. Computers like flat polygons, so make a box/cube. The front face is the exact size and shape of the front plate on a carrier. The back of the box is the same size and shape of the back plate in a carrier. (use the smallest plate of the variants)
Connect the 2 flat plates with flat hit planes on the side to make it a box. Boom, done super lightweight and a functioning critical hit zone. Anything that hits outside the box on the thorax deals 1/3 to 1/2 damage. While landing a shot into the critical zone deals full damage.
@@StuddMuffinn_YT Really good potential implementation of it, I would say that 1/2 damage would be perfectly fine as it prevents one taps from like 99% of rounds ingame except for the gnarly high caliber flesh rounds. 1/3 might be too much.
They nerfed the Devtac Ronin Helmet. It use to not have muffled sound, it might have actually had comtac increased audio range. A few days ago it is now heavily muffled and audio range is shorter.
