I like the packaging paper for making pages in a rough sized art journal using all sorts of other papers. I keep cards, all the things you showed and use fabric too, gelli print on copy paper, envelopes - opened out - undamaged sections of paper tablecloths, napkins, kitchen towel (mop up sheets). Of course there's no room in my studio with all of this, frames and fabrics! but I love it all.
This is everything I make a junk journal to journal in from also. I'm gonna make another art journal with canvas fabric and old catalogs that have thick papers etc for my next one.
These are fabulous ideas! Thanks for sharing.
@@gathercreatelivewithleslie8340 Such a great idea!
I really love all the suggestions you give. Materials you usually don't think of. It triggers your creativity to further explore! Thanks so much.
I agree! I think one thing leads to another--just gets you thinking! I'm glad you were inspired.
GREAT! What I really want to start a Art Sketchbook Journal and trying out the delly paper.
I hope you do Annina! It's a great way to get started.
I had to laugh..why didn't I figure this out sooner?! I'm right handed as well and have blank pages on the left side of my journals. As you were talking, this came to me - a lightning bolt, a flash in the pan, a light bulb moment!! lol. Take your spiral bound books and flip it upside down and the unused paper will be on the right hand side. Thank you, thank you very much!!! All that unused paper will now be used...
Oh Wendy, such a great idea! Genius!
Love this! I also use old maps, magazines, food containers and postcards 😊
So many good ideas! Thanks Doreen!
I find canvas on the frames a bit intimidating.....but the canvas board looks like something that would give me the experience of painting on canvas without my perfectionist side causing me stress😂. And my free spirit side can't wait to try some cardboard! Lots of great ideas....and like many of us, I save all types of packing papers etc because I just know they will be useful for something! Loving your ideas and looking forward to daily "aha moments" this month.....you are so creative and certainly think outside of the box....exactly what I am looking for!!
Thanks again Pam for letting me know that these videos have been helpful. I'm so happy to hear you have discovered some new ideas and are encouraged to think outside the box. Let that free spirit run!
For those that have used a spiral bound and feel like you can't work on the left side, just flip the blank page to the other side. This might seem obvious, but many people don't. Plus, it's more or less a play or experimentation book, so it doesn't matter if it's upside down. It's kinda like having two art journals. Front to back and back to front, just a little rotation. For thick plywood, router a hanger in the back of it so it can be hung and just gesso and paint the edges just like the birch wood panels. Hot pressed watercolor paper is smooth and cold pressed is textured. Fabric of most kinds can be gessoed and used, I tend to love the deckled edge, looks cool framed with a larger frame and blank background. Make sure you get the unwaxed deli paper to use, the waxed typically is a lot harder to use. We always worry about archival, but if you really think of it, hundreds of years ago it was just fabric and wood also. Looking forward to the next video
Oh my gosh, so many great ideas! Thanks for sharing!
Hi Pam. Loved your video. I have used foam core at times for a substrate, black or white. Thanks for this series!
Oh Christine, foam core is a great idea! Thanks!
