I've seen this cat lying there for about ten years, every time I drive to work.
Cleaned my shed out today, and found two winches and some other stuff. Brought it to this place, and he and Thomas were there.
Nice to meet them, and hope to help the project along.
    Greetings, Gerrit.

That thing you picked from behind the switchboard looks like a polypore (mushroom), which means that you have mycelium slowly breaking down the wood where it was attached. You should be able to see a white "web" in the wood. They're beautiful creatures, polypores, but better not have them on your boat... And the fruiting body (which you picked) will come back unless the mycelium is removed.

That dinghy is awesome! It's a Norwegian Pioner dinghy. They all have double hull and are completely unsinkable, even when they are filled with water😁 Safest dingy ever! The 8 feet is used as safe dinghy for children that need to learn how to row since you do not need to worry about the boat flipping over. The larger ones are widely used as working boats, back and forth between cabins in the fjords. You can never kill them!😅 Drag them over any rock, and they are still fine😅

i use to be a painter, owned my own company. I used tsp, rinsed it off to prepare anything to be painted. Lots of clients would say at that stage the place doesnt need painting. The tsp would remove oils, grime basically that actually stinks up the place: you just get used to it. Also that grime will eventually work its way to the surface eventually through the fresh paint. A lot of research has gone into paint restoration, preservation if your interested.

A tip for you Mark, miltons sterilising liquid, or dissolvable tabs. After cleaning spray your surfaces with it, leave for 15 mins, then wipe up. Your work is getting neater.
The pins that hold the cross-beam most likely have holes drilled through them to accept either a split pin or an R clip, or possibly even a circlip - but I doubt it at that size.. It will be the through-pin that prevents them from jumping out. If you hammer them down then you will see the hole that was drilled through at the factory.
Your new boards look nice. I would not go for paint or varnish, these chip and crack. I would use Danish Oil which - fun fact - is actually Chinese (Tung Oil). You will need three or four coats. Gives a lovely shiny finish and will soak into the wood to some extent, so not just a surface preparation.

    • @JohnKenIRB233
      @JohnKenIRB233 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Yes, I would treat the wood before walking on it. Paint, etc can chip. White, wet epoxy can get slippery and still crack w/o fibers - expensive? 😅

All you have to do is give that little dinghy some love and she'll be the perfect little dinghy to get you to and off your boat. Nothing wrong with that, at all. Btw Mark looks like you've got yourself a great boat, looking forward to this refit should be very interesting. I'm kinda excited for ya to be honest.

I was thinking about your other half and then heard the background music. Hope you two are doing well, and you keep on sailing. Keep busy, soon you'll have a team of master boat builders, sponsors, going around the globe in competition. And much much more.

Its amazing how people love to spout bile and negativity , I bet most have them have never even sailed a boat ! , anyone who has unubscribed from your channel because you did'nt take their advice instead of getting behind you and giving support is going to miss a lot of great content in the future . I just discovered your channel through your very latest video and subscribed straight away , I am really looking forward to seeing your progress .

I believe neoprene closed cell foam is available in a variety of densities and thicknesses. Easier to keep clean and excellent floatation. Have a look into it for matresses and cushions. 😉

Mark, after you fitted your sheet and invitingly said “ladies” then followed by a fragrant spritz and another invite I was surprised that there wasn’t an immediate knock on the hull of your boat.
    Great work and good job!

the nice fungus you found is Artist’s Conk (Ganoderma applanatum) You can find it growing on many species of trees, from conifers to broad-leaf trees. It’s a thick shelf fungus, with brown on the top and white on the bottom

That thing isn't for any live creature's use anymore. Black mold (every aspergillus whatsoever) is highly toxic and leads to longterm health issues of all kinds in every mammal.

Your plan is smart, what you are achieving by living cheap putting in the hard work you’re self really impressive.
