Picked up a blue Aquascaphe Titanium a couple of months ago. Very impressed. Also very impressed with their accessories. The perlon and FKM straps are really quite nice.
Nice to see so much transparency Gary. I do like this brand and definitely wouldn't mind spending money on one of their watches. Don't mind the pausing movement, couldn't handle the stutter...! Good on you Gary, that's a very attractive watch. For €360 however, it should have sapphire, they're not expensive. I changed a Seiko to a sapphire crystal and only paid $7,50 and that was for just one. Buying in bulk, 20 or more, was offering 40% off. It's not a fatal issue, but even an extra €10 and putting sapphire on it would have been a better move.
Top-hat (boxed) sapphire crystals are not cheap, even on Ali. I don't think I ran into any for under about $90 U.S. Yes, you can find flat for very cheap, single and double domed for not quite as cheap, but boxed is a different story. If you have found boxed sapphire crystals for considerably cheaper, please share links.
In bulk they're not that expensive. There are huge discounts available. Not just crystals either, movements in bulk are also extremely cheap. If this same watch came from the likes of Baltany, (who actually have a very similar watch) with the same movement and a sapphire crystal you'd pay less than $200 for it. The more I think about this watch, they've already stretched the price beyond it's worth, even if it had a sapphire crystal. A Miyota movement and a mineral crystal for €369......$400? Personally I couldn't justify such a price for a fairly unexceptional watch with those specifications. But everyone can decide for themselves if it's worth it. But bear in mind, on the grey market you can find a Hamilton khaki field with a sapphire crystal and Swiss movement for as low as $450. Is this Baltic really worth almost the same price ?
I was just commenting the same my self. This is way too expensive for what it is. You can definitely find some of the better Chinese watches with that movement and sapphire for around $200 to $250. That's €185 to €230 for comparison. This is an overhyped brand making pretty standard watches and charging too much. Tip. Check the pre-owned prices of these watches. They can be had for half the price. They lose value faster than a new car that's just come off the lot.
@@bbwt9991Yes, you're right. I began to really think about the value prospect here after my initial comment and realized how overpriced this is. Also true, it's not an original design, it's been done multiple times with little or no variation.
@@brianmsahin This watch is overpriced when comparing to most Ali watches. There isn't even a question about that. You're paying for brand. (But you could say the same for most established brands.) No argument there. My reply strictly addressed the cost of a boxed sapphire crystal. Those things are expensive relative to flat, single-domed, even double-domed. Few are buying in bulk, even if per-unit costs differed significantly, so that's not even a consideration. Price a boxed sapphire crystal, and if you're able to find them for cheap, please provide a link(s). You're probably looking at 10x what you paid for your, I'm guessing, flat sapphire crystal.
I like Baltic. Vintage looks and size at competitive prices. Bought the Hermetique myself and yes, their strap (leather or rubber) smells really good. The rubber FKM strap smelled like it was dipped in vanilla essence.
Not very long ago I got myself a Citizen Tsuyosa with a Miyota 8 series movement. I never noticed any kind of stutter. Even when I give the watch a jolt, there is no stop of the second hand. By the way, my experiences with Baltic were positive so far.
Yeah, nice looking but to much money. Mineral glass is no longer a price question - it's a just a cheap way out. Made in China, Japan movement - take away the French assembled part and this is a $150US watch and at that price it would have sapphire. To be fair I say the same thing about Laco saying 'Made in German' with Miyota movements.
I bought a baltic aquascaphe on rubber in 2021 ish. At the time it was almost a third of the cost of the Seiko SPB 147. I ended up buying the Baltic and a Rado Captain Cook for the cost of the Seiko. (I returned the Seiko the same day it arrived - with a misaligned bezel). The microbrands and even the Ali brands now offer much much more than traditional big name brands.
Never met a single person that bought a Rado or Mido. I’m 99.9% sure the brands are some sort of money laundering scheme, shell company or Swiss social services make-work program.
That is a good looker and when you brought the smell of the leather I could almost smell it. Really. Nore: When I started driving my 1st two cars were Morris Minors with leather seats and the smell was amazing👍
Absolutely nothing wrong with acrylic crystals. Less brittle & better clarity than sapphire and because it’s so easy to polish out any scratches it’ll always look great and age gracefully. Good enough for Rolex & Omega for eons too.
Excellent review, it's nice to see a refreshingly honest watch company, however they would be more refreshingly honest if they sold it for a reasonable price given the specs. 400 bucks for a pleasant but nothing special watch with a mineral crystal and a movement that many Ali Express watches have for less than half that price? There are very similar watches you can get 2 of for that price. You can even find Swiss watches with better specs for the price. Hamilton comes to mind and some Tissot models too.
Actually, some Swiss brands *do* specify where they source parts/components from. For example Ollech & Wajs state on its website that watches are assembled and adjusted in Switzerland… “In addition to the watch and its parts being Swiss made, we take great care when choosing our partners and subcontractors. They are selected for their technical excellence, without overlooking a key component: a true passion for watchmaking. These exacting standards extend to sourcing and selecting the finest materials for your watch’s accessories. Our popular RAF straps are made in a 19th-century factory in Wales, using material woven in Sherwood, UK. Our 100% natural leather and linen straps are handmade by one of italy's finest tanneries. Even the papers used in our packaging are carefully sourced from first -rate suppliers in both the UK and Turkey.” So, yeah, a Swiss watch brand can be honest…but not the big groups perhaps…

Like the design, dial , strap crown etc but the case size is no longer my thing. Wore my 30 yr old 37mm TAG yesterday and it just seems so small on my 8inch wrist. I guess its years of wearing 40-43mmers.

I used to think they were too expensive but then looked at it this way. If a car manufacturer in France built beautiful, vintage styled cars with excellently produced components from Hong Kong, fitted them with affordable, reliable Japanese engines and then sold them for the price of a Ford or a VW, NOBODY would complain about the cost of buying one.
