Absolutely beautiful. I remember so well the nice days with my classmates when we ran around in that forest killing stuff. Makes me a bit nostalgic now that I remember how we all went to play WoW instead. I played that game for so long, and just randomly remembered this game. I just had to look it up and it's music. The memories are lovely!
Ascalon was never taken by the Charr--King Adelbern and Prince Rurik saw to that. The nobles were ousted by Duke Barradin's Vanguard, and the armies of the Charr were pushed back over the mountains of Rinn. Warm rays of summer still blanket the autumn-tinted valleys and lush fields.
First character was a Prophecies ranger. I was a little too freaked out by what happened to Ascalon (I was like 9 or something) and so I deleted the character. Though I've since kind of gotten over the whole thing, pre-Searing Ascalon will always be my favourite place in the game.
this theme reminds me of my first adventure with guild wars. It was amazing, i remember first guilds I joined.. incredible.. most uniting game ever, people used to be so cheerful and friendly. Im thinking about playing gw once again, but now when GW2 is coming soon i don't know if i will return to gw1. but im sure that gw2 won't have the spirit that gw1 had. no way.. still, gw1 the greatest game i've ever played
Pre-Searing Ascalon was one of the magical places, like Hogwarts or Narnia. You only needed to explore 10% of it to move on with the story, but sticking around revealed a beautifully crafted world with an unbelievable atmosphere. Seeing it turn into a horrific wasteland post-searing was one of the driving factors for most players to play through the game and defeat the Charr who caused Ascalon's destruction. Even then though, it could never be brought back, and even in GW2 it's not the same.
No panic. When you try to log in, it says "What's this?" It's a link to their website, you can contact Support if you don't know any of your character's names :-)
My version of Gwen's destiny: Gwen was but only 6 years old the sunny morning the charr bombarded Ascalon City. As she witnessed the hopeless despair in the eyes of men whom oathlessly protected within the walls and lands abroad, a flame bolstered within her heart. Chaos magic, spells only thought controlled by mesmers on small scales, now columed within the paws of insane twin brother elementalists, known as Time's Duo, Pryytar and Oohrkoky, the city was lost. Along the years, Gwen rallied to, frow and foot, many humans across the greelands. A young 20 year old leading along the side of a once ruler King's surviving son of that time altaring morning, marching toward's an end. The echo of a choice made by a little girl to regain the land for peace and prosperity, at the time a mind of innocence not knowing how, lost her life during the ambush of now known in Guild Wars lore as The Ambush On the Road to Sorrow's Furnace. Not knowing the humans lead by Gwen and King Roderhik's son Marcus along with a small company, were sneaking into the furnace to destroy Harbinger breeding caves. Gwen's death was not in vein, for the clash of her company's ambush unleashed the Harbingers onto the charr, whom's survivers extending from the bloodbath of the ambush, now fleeing to their short traveled homeland from a new source of non-discriminating predation. All for the existence of justice, the range of light which birth's flame of love's heart, which never dies, dwelleth'd within Gwen. These days within Guild Wars lore, the charr have been long forgive of their ancestors sins by the humans and even some council seats bare charr ownership.
I miss classic guild wars sooooo much!, I would've still played if they never made it to where the charr destroyed, untop of not being able to run faster or jump anywhere in the game, it would've have mattered IF THEY WOULD"VE JUST KEPT OLD ASCALON THE WAY IT WAS!! and everywhere else :''''(
I don't mind the music itself, but after leveling a character to 20 in pre-searing Ascalon for the achievement this song gets REALLY OLD after a while since it plays literally everywhere at all times. Eventually have to turn off music and listen to something else.
I know it's the same guy, but I'm sure some of the music is *exactly* the same songs. Maybe I'm just imagining it... but I'm sure I remember playing Oblivion to this music.
@Highstar25 I know, I'm just sure some of the music is the same tracks from Oblivion. Oh well. And I agree, he certainly is a genius, I could listen to his music all day.
Just like Dungeon Siege, the new Guild Wars games are soooo lame. Dungeon Siege II had some cool stuff, but the music and atmosphere just isn't as interesting. Guild Wars Prophecies was an awesome game, then Factions was released, and it all went down hill from there, that's when I stopped playing the game. Jeremy Soule's music is awesome! I have a bunch of the soundtracks he made for a lot of games, Dungeon Siege, Elder Scrolls and so on.
seriously...what the hell happened to guild wars music...its gets crappier with every expansion....pleasse...we need more scenery from preascalon and its music, not nightfall...
@plaspop it does sound weird, but im sure alot of people agree with you on that. including myself. the memories of first seeing ascalon... the best memories i have of GW.
OH MY FUCKING GOD MY HEART CRIES CHILDHOOD FANTASY AND NOSTALGIA WHEN I HEAR THIS AMAZING SONG AGAIN
Oh the mystery and wonder of my first adventures in ascalon. I wonder if ever a game can make me feel the same.

If only.

I miss this game so much
whats to miss, its still being played rather avidly in North American Servers :D
The moment when you find gwen's broken flute during the searing...makes me sad!
Many happy hours played, sometimes just to hear the music and take in the beautiful scenery. A beautiful game.
Evoking adventures with Skals. And a little girl with a lost flute. Bliss
I love this song.
Freaking beautiful :')....Jeremy soule is just awesome,I'm so glad he's doing Guild Wars 2 soundtracks!.
Prophecies and Eye of the North have the best Music. Prophecies is peaceful, while Eye of the North is EPIC!! I'm glad they brought back Gwen in EoTN.
I'm here after extensive lurking on which GW1 songs were put into GW2. This was one of them and boy as others have said, it's simply beautiful.
i love this song to no end, the begging is just great with the low bass and chello its soo awsome
I'll always miss Ascalon. =[ But I will love Kryta just as much of course. =] But Ascalon holds those dear memories I will never forget.
FOR JEREMY SOULE!!!

Is always a bit earie when you find her tomb in Guild Wars 2, and you can hear her theme playing softly in the background.
@DemoraFairy jaremy soule made both guildwars and oblivion's soundtrack. he is a GENIOUS. That explains the similar style
@plaspop Exactly! Prophecies had the most fantasy-like atmosphere!
Amazing.
this girl have a tragical story.Best music and best game
A birth of a new hope...
Wow I can't believe how much music from Guild Wars they reused in Oblivion.
No panic. When you try to log in, it says "What's this?" It's a link to their website, you can contact Support if you don't know any of your character's names :-)
i love this part: 1:08
Theres a way around that. Never click on the guard to take you out of there ;)

Its not that they reused it, its just that the same guy composed it..so there is bound to be similarites
@DemoraFairy thats what ya get if its the same guy but he makes epic music though love jeremy soul !
you can try GW2 now! This soundtrack is there too! ah the nostalgia

I know it's the same guy, but I'm sure some of the music is *exactly* the same songs. Maybe I'm just imagining it... but I'm sure I remember playing Oblivion to this music.
@81dj09 Das passt mich auch, aber ich spiele nicht mehr jetzt.

Jeez, Gwen's face is so creepy.
I hated this kid until I realized she restored energy
i have 3 words for :no, no and no!
The score of Prophecies was unbelievable but with the expansion it became worse and worse
