Now, BEFORE Y'ALL START HOLLERIN' - this cabbage "bread" is definitely better than some of the other "breads" we've made on this channel! So just hear me out! LOL 😅😂
It’s cabbage and an eg. It tastes like cabbage and egg. LOL! It’s mild, not very eggy. A mild “sulfur-ey” cabbag-ey taste. I actually liked it! But I would never call it “bread.”
I had this for breakfast just for this video, but not as a sandwich. It's more like a frittata for me. I actually eat it quite often. Thanks for the affirmation. 😊
Hey Wes, Suggestion for your enjoyment. Since you like American Cheese, see if you can find Cooper Sharp in your area, it is a Sharp American Cheese, and while I love american cheese, Cooper Sharp is by far a better American Cheese in my opinion.
I love cabbage so I'm definitely going to try this! I was a little distracted when the video started and I misheard bacon powder instead of baking powder... I was like "dang, bacon and cabbage rocks! How can I make bacon powder?" 😂
You can probably blitz up those packaged bacon bits things in a high powered blender or a spice grinder, and that would basically be bacon powder, minus the fact that most of those bacon bits on the market are actually vegetarian and made from soy. 😂 But it would have all the flavor of bacon so it'd still essentially be bacon-y powder.
Had to play with this! Huge cabbage fan in and with almost anything from wraps to stir-fry to salad and coleslaw. Decided to attempt this like a "quick 10-minute dinner" or something easy and fast. Bought a package of shredded coleslaw mix (cabbage, carrots, etc) and one package of shredded angel hair cabbage. Put about half of each in two different bowls, used two eggs for each bowl (knowing I would add more), a teaspoon of baking powder and seasoned with garlic jalapeno salt. Prior to cooking, I did add more cabbage to both. Both versions are absolutely awesome and did purposely char/extra brown one which for me is the best one. Definitely one to throw creativity at and have fun with!
If you added some more veggies, like green onions, peppers, add some garlic, ginger and soy sauce. Use a soup ladle to make small pancakes, you would have something like egg foo young. I always used bean sprouts in mine because I used to sprout my own. It’s a quick but fast dinner. Maybe add some tuna or salmon?
❤ This reminds me of my grandma's cabbage pie. Its an old Polish recipe. Lard in cast iron, garlic onion and shreded cabbage sautéed, then add your whisked eggs and flip it once to brown on all sides. Sometimes she would put cheese on top. It was really good, very inexpensive way to feed a large group of grandkids. 😂
That sounds yummy. Totally gonna try that. My granma used to fry cabbage in lots of butter butter till it tastes sweet . add cooked wide egg noodles & fry some more. add salt pepper paprika to it
In Japan we call this Okonomiyaki , a type of Japanese pizza thing with squid chunks in it. But we use a little flour. You could substitute the regular flour for Coconut flour or ground flaxseed.
I agree, I peel and slice garlic, add coconut oil and bake it. When I cook eggs or veggies, I add a heaping teaspoon of roasted garlic oil. Our church calls it goot. I have no idea how the kids came up with that name but I love it. 😂
😊The first thing I thought of was you could use this as a tortilla for a fish taco. It's just cooked cabbage instead of raw cabbage. Love ya. Been watching you for years! Whenever I see some new trend I always look to see if there's a battle on it before I waste my time.
I've been making these for many years but I make them smaller and called them pancakes. I use all the ingredients that you've used and a few more such as: turmeric, carrots, onions, and red and green bellpeppers. I serve them hot with a delicious tamarind sauce.
I don't know about useing this as bread but like you say ,hashbrowns which in my opinion would be great with onions and sausage cheese and a couple of eggs
I've done #1 to replace hashbrowns or potatoes my grandmother used to make for breakfast. Over easy egg placed in top, cheese if desired - delicious! I also use the packaged cole slaw mix to save time. Pick out carrots if desired.
To me this is more like a patty than bread, along the lines of potato patties or salmon patties like my mom used to make. That doesn't mean it's not good though. I love cabbage, and it looks delicious. I think I'd want to add a little onion or garlic and then chow down. You've inspired me! Keep the videos coming!
You look great! You haven’t popped up on my feed in years…looking good guy! I’ve been using cabbage like pasta with a good sauce and meatballs the pasta isn’t missed
Yes! I also like using shredded cabbage as a pasta replacement. In my opinion, spaghetti squash is just too sweet for a lot of pasta sauces. Unless it's something with a very strong flavor to cover it up like a bolognaise, puttanesca, fra diavolo, etc., there's just too much sweetness to the squash and it ends up tasting kind of like you're eating pesto on pumpkin pie. Not a good combination.
Yes, lol. I love the little Mission ZERO Carb tortillas... no sugar peanut butter, heated on butter and sprinkled with Lakanto Monkfruit Golden sweetener and cinnamon and the list goes on. But I love pizza, too, so here goes! Thanks, @HighfalutinLowCarb.
Hi Wes, love watching you! I'm going to try this with two tablespoons of nutritional yeast, just to see how it might change the flavor. It's kind of cheesy and mushroomy, but it won't add any leavening. I'll update here and let you know.
Now this is one I've never heard of! When you mentioned having it for breakfast, with maybe seasonings, and sausage, that caught my interest as I'm struggling to get my 5 veggies a day in - especially at breakfast
You dont need to have 5 veggies a day. Its just an arbitrary number and doesnt kean much. Where in the wild can you find 5 different types of veg hrowing all year round? Makes no sense. All the vitamins and minerals you need can be found in liver and egg yolks.
I love cabbage so I am sure that I would like this recipe. It did seem like the baking powder might have helped the texture. I wonder if letting it sit for a few minutes while you made the first one actually helped too.
" . . . It aint bread." And that's why always watch your videos. Honesty. I probably won't make this, but thanks to your honesty I know what to expect, unlike certain others who finish every video hootin' an hollerin' about how amazing this recipe is, "Just like the real thing!" Yeah, thanks, I'll see if Highfallutin' has done it before I make it.
HA! I've been having nostalgia for a grilled cheese made with good ol' "plastic" American cheese, like I used to eat all the time when I was a kid anywhere we went out to eat! You eat that cheese, and you enjoy it, Wes! 😂
First off I have to say I totally enjoy Your channel. Do You think if the "recipe" was tripled it could be spread in a sheet pan and cooked in the oven?

Cabbage is good for gut health especially when it's fermented like sauerkraut. So I will always like it. Thanks for showing us that we can try cabbage in a different way.
Great points all around... And I gotta say, this was so easy and so tasty, I've made it twice since filming this. (You gotta love cabbage, though, which I definitely do!)

I really like the personality you project! I'll def give this a try. Looking forward to future videos, thank you!
Maybe try adding some shredded cheese and some almond flour to make it hold up more as a sandwich. You might have been able to use it as a soft taco shell.
If I smell cabbage cooking i will run as far away as i can go. I can eat cold as in cole slaw, but cooked in any form aint happening so i won't be trying this "bread" 😂. No matter i enjoyed your video, as always 😊
A while ago I found this swedish recipe that is similar to your recipe with a few extra ingredients and if I am honest a lot more work😅 (you roll them out) but I think it tastes like thin bread (tunnbröd In swedish). 200 g shredded cabbage which you boil for about 15 min then pour away the water and steam off some moore. Bland the cabbage in a mixer to a smooth consistency. Add 1 egg and 1/2 tsp salt and some ground fennel and cumin, blend some more. Finally add 1/2 tbsp chia seeds and 2 tbsp psyllium powder and blend again. Let the mixture set for about 10 minutes . Take 2 baking papers and divide the dough as you go in to little balls which you roll out using quite a lot of coconut flour so it does't stick (doesn't taste of coconut flour though). Then put them in a hot skillet like your recipe. This makes a lot of bread which tastes divine freshly baked with lots of butter and cheese (and ham too if you like) then roll it up. It holds In the fridge at last a week. If they have been In the fridge I usually heat them up slightly In the microwave before using it. This bread is so yummy and the coconut flour taket out a lot of the moisture and makes it taste more bready. Sorry for the long haul.😂 Love your channel! Greetings from Sweden Sweden 🇸🇪

True. If you can tolerate gluten, they’re great. Unfortunately, many folks can’t - which is why they eat keto and low carb.

Maybe try adding some shredded cheese and some almond flour to make it hold up more as a sandwich. You might have been able to use it as a soft taco shell.
Cabbage omelete...
I remember making something similar probably 6 - 7 years ago. 😊 Thanks Wes for the reminder 🤩
I love the way your mind works, looks interesting-
I bet it would make a great scallion pancake if you threw some thinly sliced green onions in and drizzled it with soy sauce. =)
I agree with you on some added ingredients, I'm going to try this and experiment with adding some amount of grated parm and/or pork rind panko.
I would call this cabbage hash browns.
Which did you prefer the taste of the best. It was clear that the second one was sturdier.
Used to something like this with grated zucchini. I'm sure this isn't quite as mild.
One big thanks, appreciate the honest presentation, from Betty's Bay south Africa
Going to try this..
Thank you!
If I smell cabbage cooking i will run as far away as i can go. I can eat cold as in cole slaw, but cooked in any form aint happening so i won't be trying this "bread" 😂. No matter i enjoyed your video, as always 😊
A bit of super-fine sliced onion and ground hot sausage, top with shredded lettuce, cheese and tomato - yes ma'am! I'm having it!
Lots of grammatical errors due to autocorrect. 😕
It would be even better if you threw in some green onion or garlic. And definitely some herbage.
It’s a traditional dish in many Asian cuisines
You look great! You haven’t popped up on my feed in years…looking good guy!
I love cabbage. Thanks for idea for another breakfast dish. 😊
