Enjoyed the video. I just got the 5000U yesterday after I received the back in stock alert last week from Casio. Love the the fact it’s got the metal case back. One other recent purchase was the 40 year anniversary DW5040PG-1, both great watches. Only wish the 5040 was Solar as well
Nice review. I think all G-Shock squares look good. I appreciate your honesty when you talked about the 5610. I agree, the 5610 color scheme is nice. I like the band you put on the 5000u.
The 5000U finally lets you change the day month display around to the Australian format. It's only a minor detail, but the other way was always a little annoying. Nice watch.
@degenerateWA This might be a good opportunity to mention that WA means Western Australia to an Aussie. You could be a degenerate Western Australian for all I know.
Great review, nice videography. This looks like a good model. I have the Rangrman GW-9400-1 as my main watch. Considering getting this one, the 5000u. Which is your favourite or most worn G-Shock you have?
I also looked for a 5600 variant for my 2023 beater. I did however find something else that is pretty cool too although not solar. I found the DW-5700BBMB-1DR. Its pretty out there with the golden dial and pushers haha. I didn't want another solar watch because I have to constantly swop out those I have already to charge once in a while so its a bit annoying.. This is a very nice watch! Bro its your money... If you want to buy a G-shock for $300 then go for it. They last a lifetime so the cost per wear should be excellent.
the 5700's are nice. They're pretty much G Shock squares underneath the bezel. I had a 5735 which was the 35th anniversary edition and I loved it. The only reason why I think $300 is too much is because for $100 you can get essentially the same exact thing with the 5610, but you're right, anyone can use their money the way they want to. The 5610 is a more than capable alternative though.
@@degenerateWA Very true! I love the squares as well but haven't owned one in a while. I don't think its a bad deal necessarily because in a few years they might be collectible and by then you would have gotten your money's worth a long time ago. • the radio timekeeping CAN be turned off; • it's Tough Solar, which means that it can charge itself through any source of light, natural or artificial; • it has auto-light, it lits up at 45º

love mine, it's not big on wrist but has something so classy about it, i'm still on the combi bracelet and it was such a wiggle to get it on i'm non-plussed about putting a resin back on LOL
it was a real pain in the ass to get the combi bracelet on. I realized that the 5610 does not have a caseback that protrudes outward as much as the 5000's screwdown caseback which is why it required a little more "physical convincing". Still looks clean AF with it on though
I ordered 5000u a few weeks ago, but it wasn't available. My wallet thanks me for now, I'm sure :). I also like the color scheme of 5610 more. Thank you for the review.
The watch has mineral glass, which has moderate resistance to scratches -- far better than acrylic. Also, the crystal is slightly recessed, which helps a bit. Add glass protection if you wish.
That sucks. I removed the bracelet from the 5000 and installed it on the 40th anniversary square. It's got some new "recrystallized" steel so supposedly it's super resistant to scratches. I'm not too worried about it because when it's not on my wrist it's in the case with a foam pillow so the clasp rarely every touches the caseback.
I’ve got this watch on the rubber it was born with, I think id like to try it on one of them combi bracelets, is it an aftermarket one and did you need lug mod bits to fit it or was it straight on?
Agree completely. And the OEM plastic bracelets (like the one in the video) cost almost $200 too, which is ridiculous. There are aftermarket copies but I'm not sure how good they are.
@@Ronin228 i noticed that. Definitely wasnt designed for the protruding caseback of the 5000. Had to force that b*tch into place; it worked but wasnt a smooth process
Did the combi bracelet fit this model smoothly? Or you maybe had to tweak it a bit since it comes on models that don’t have the bulkier screw down case back. Cheers
Not at all. The 5000 has a steel core but functionally is exactly the same as the 5610. The 5000 is going to feel more dense and therefor create the illusion of better quality, but the 5610 is also a fantastic watch
@@degenerateWA Why would the GW-5000U give the illusion of better quality? It's literally better built than the GW-M5610U in every single way, except the crystal. Simple facts, no smoke and mirrors.
hello! thanks for the video! I have the same watch and it is wonderful. Can you tell me how to find that bracelet on Amazon or on the internet? thank you so much.
I purchased mine here: www.seiyajapan.com/collections/accessories/products/casio-composite-bracelet-for-gw-m5610bc-1jf Unfortunately it appears they are out of stock. There are several aftermarket bracelets you can find on google, but I don't know what their quality is like. I ordered this watch and sent it back because I simply felt ripped off. Yes, it’s nice…yes it’s built well. But at the end of the day, it’s just not worth 300 US dollars to me. I feel it should retail for around 185 usd at the most, and not a penny more.
Lmao, that would be the same price as a brand new GW-M5610U in the UK. Anything Casio manufactures in Japan has a huge markup unfortunately, this watch would be significantly cheaper if produced in Thailand or China. I did buy the GW-M5610U recently, but I sent it back because the resin felt too cheap and lightweight. I'm still not convinced the GW-5000U is worth it, but there isn't anything else Casio has like it.
