Sans lui peut-être pas d’épopée Jacquet, car c'est Youri après le marasme de 94 qui sera l'homme de base de la reconstruction voulu par notre "Mémé" national. Les 2 hommes se vouent une confiance sans borne, notamment durant les qualifs de l'euro 96 qui sera par la suite le point de départ de la sélection CDM 98. Il sera même un des grands hommes du match lors de la fameuse victoire en Roumanie qui pour tous marque le match fondateur des futurs mondialistes. Donc sans lui peut-être pas de 98, même si on sait, on ne va pas refaire l'histoire, que grâce à 2 malheureux buts en finale après une coupe du monde (et un euro 96) largement ratée de sa part, un joueur va permettre à une communauté de s'accaparer la victoire. (et devenir par la suite le plus grand joueur du monde, ça, personne ne le conteste).
