I really appreciate not only the simplicity of the design, but also the clarity of the demonstration and instructions (including on-screen identification of bits needed). 5 stars for high-quality video, good lighting, and crisp editing. Thanks so much for sharing.
That's a superb video, no waffle, unlike so many videographers who like to think they are so funny. A no-nonsense, straight-to-the-point video. I will be watching more of your videos, so thanks very much. A brilliant idea.
jeeez, calm down man. You send like someone that thinks "the system wronged me, and now i spend my days in a deep dark cave, only coming out to fight criminals, to defend gotham city, because I'am BATMAN!!!!" i mean seriously you need to chill
I'm from Mexico... I really enjoy every single video n' knife you make!!! ... I'm glad you LOVE TACOS, i do as well ( obviusly )... Keep doing this mesmerizing knives!!! ... Cheers from Mexico 👍
Great almost silent video, I like this style. I wish drying time was really that fast! I like the solid nature of the block that can be wiped clean. There a some that have lips, grooves and really industrial looking, crud catchers, I could put a handle on them and sweep my yard for nails.
Can I ask why you did the epoxy after putting the finish on? Wouldn't it have been cleaner to glue the magnets in, then sand the excess away, then poly?
Great little project!! I’ve thought about making one of those and your idea is a good one!! Looks like your wife has gotten some good use out of your knives!
Hey I'm a Maker I believe it is called a key hole bit. I’ve used them before in a vertical application before but never in a horizontal fashion. Would work just as well unless someone slid the holder sideways and it came off the wall (unlikely) unless you had kids that knew this 😂😂😂 then all bets are off. Haha
Cool idea, I have a couple of the 40cm long bar magnet knife holders, after seeing this, the ugly magnets are going into the back of some nice hardwood. Cheers.
I would suggest testing this first before committing. The magnetic pull force diminishes with distance really quickly. 2mm or something hardwood between the knife and the magnet, and you'll lose something like 70% of the force. If there's also less friction between the wood and your current knife holders, the knives will fall off super easily, or won't hang at all. I've made these magnetic knife board things before, and used 20mm x 5mm with a pull force of 6.4kg last time. Using said magnet, with 2mm wood between the magnet and a knife, that's 2.04kg force. With a friction coefficient of 20%, it will hold a 408g knife. For reference, increasing it to 3mm wood, it can hold a 280g knife.
@@christianh1171 I'll definitely test it first, the bars I have stick to the metal bench leg so strongly , it takes a screw driver to pry them off. I'm not keen on the magnets but if they work set into hard wood they will be used, otherwise they get relegated to my workshop as tool holders.
I enjoy your content ! Question-a couple of years back you posted a video of the installation of a wind turbine on your farm. What have been the benefits and what were the disappointments? I live on a family farm-500 acres with a perfect hilltop layout where barn is located for a wind turbine. The goal is to create off grid capability. We have a good well also. Have you considered installing an array of solar panels in conjunction with the wind power generated from turbine? Curious to know if the costs of the turbine have been repaid through energy created. Your thoughts? Thank you !!!
Thank you! That was a multi blade windmill we installed and technically they’re different than what is considered a wind turbine. The multi-blade is better for work that requires higher torque/heavier loads like a water pump. That’s what we used it for at my dads place. I wish I could help but other than research I have no experience with wind turbines 👍
I know this is 3 years ago but i was looking to build something similar. Per the magnets you are using, (Lee Valley) 2x 1" and 1x 3/4 for the big knives each knife would cost $45 in magnets to hold??? What on earth were you paying for them back then?
Hello, loved your video. Could you please tell how much wood is between magnet and knife. And now i am looking for magnets, how thick are your magnets and/or how many kilograms can they lift? thanks in advance :-)
you took the length and divided by 9? I know I am late to the party but where did you come up with the number 9? by the way, it looks awesome...once again I will be copying a SLL project. lol
I don’t think so. It’s a gem for certain tasks in the kitchen and when I’m in the kitchen, how a knife works is more important to me than how it looks or if it was handmade nor not. Also, it a knife I bought for my daughter when she was young and wanted to start learning to cook. Perfect knife for a 5 year old 😆👍

At last I see something simple to do with magnets I congratulate you, thank you
Seriously the best freaking TH-cam video ever in my life! Exactly how videos should be made! My new favorite channel!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that 👍
So simple you must apply for a patient . The slotted mounting bracket is the best .
Sweet installstion Jeremy.
Cool build and love the tacos 🌮 sign lol
Very good space, for knife keeping not getting dull
nice - might be good to have in the workshop too
Thanks. I was wondering about that too. I think if you wipe the metal dust that would build up on it off it would work fairly well 👍
Excellent!
Thank you! Cheers!
That's supper cool! Wish I had the talent and tools.
Can I ask why you did the epoxy after putting the finish on? Wouldn't it have been cleaner to glue the magnets in, then sand the excess away, then poly?
I'd speculate it's so the wood doesn't absorb any epoxy so less sanding would be required overall
Love this channel !!!!
Thank you so much! 🙏👍
hell yeah i want one of these when i move out
Great video man. 👍🏻
That looks absolutely awesome well done as usual you are so talented I'm going to try one thanks for the video and God bless.
That is insanely clean sweet!
Thank you. 👍
Awesome and well explained video. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Perfect timing. We're in the middle of a kitchen remodel and I was planning on building one of these. Now I don't have to figure it all out myself.
Right on 👍
Looks very nice
Thank you 👍
That was awesome!! I’m gonna do one like that instead of buying something that doesn’t fit!!!! 👍and cheers🍻
Thanks Mike! 👍
Your video is amazing, do you have the link for the 1/4” T slot
Thank you. I don’t have a link exactly but I bought it from Lee Valley. 👍

Thanks Nathan! I had this board for almost a year and that was after thinking I should do it for two years 😆👍

No Juan ever. 😂
I wish i could come up with stuff like that.
Neat Project Jeremy. 👍
Hahaha, thank you! Truth be told...it was my wife who made the sign 😀👍
Is that coating toxic?
I don’t think so after it’s dried. But that is a very good question 👍
Id love to buy one from you!
I like the little slotted bit, I never really thought about how to attach one of these to the wall :)

Will the harbor freight neodymium magnets work?
does the direction (N or S up or down) of the magnet placement make a difference? is there a change in the pulling force?
Hi, I love your video, do you sell the “Simple Magnetic Knife Board”?
Thank you. No. I do not.

did you insert the magnets, with the polaeity in the same direction

Good Job!
Delivers me an idea for my kitchen, too.

Oh, as a German I like your good taste in German cutlery ;-)
Great ! congrats
thank you for not painting the wood and nice build brother
dude, don't even joke about painting wood. Seriously, it might give people an idea. ;)
What are the dimensions of the wood?
When you get stain in the lip of a paint can you can get a nail and punch holes in the lip so it does not get everywhere.
That’s a cool idea. Thank you! 👍
Every can of paint I open I use my 5 in 1 to cut slits to allow the paint to drain back in to the can 👍👍👍

would this be strong enought to hold a meat cleaver?
What is my north eye seeing..
Is there a bought knife at my favorite knifemaker??
Finish that with a cabinet scraper and it would have been perfect
I keep meaning to buy one of those but haven’t yet. 👍
