I refer to your guide and workbook all the time. Yesterday I was inspired by your Van Gogh sketch of starry night and I tried to render several Van Gogh paintings in ink. Very fun. I don’t use pencil any longer as I erase too much. Thank you for the content!
Love your Pen & Ink Drawing Workbook. You have so many exercises to do and so much information. It has been extremely helpful! I also really enjoy your videos! Thank you!
I know you didn't ask Me, but going straight to ink is a lot more unforgiving. I was drawing without pencil about a month and when I picked up pencil again It's so much easier.
Well, it depends on your intent. But, generally speaking I definitely recommend it if your intent is to build ink drawing skill and learn ink drawing techniques. When you have a pencil underdrawing already done it frees you to focus on mainly on the inking techniques you want to practice. No worries about proportions, structure and so on, you already established that
After all these years decided to buy both books and they’re amazing! Thanks for all the love in these assignments! Should be more like this content! Could you demonstrate excercise 2.1? I use the Sakura micron and I’m curious how you would create the varying-line weight!❤
I hope these vertical videos won't become common here. It's much easier to rotate a mobile device than my laptop, monitor or TV so there's little benefit. Despite that, your content is exemplary! So much so that I'm struggling to mar your practice books with my uh, practice... Thank you for all that you share!
That was wonderful to watch Alphonso! You made such a good point about each part having its own texture, I never really thought about that before. I wouls keep giving everything the same crosshatch pattern and then struggling to not make it look flat from value alone.
i feel like im stuck on textures and line work when it comes to drawing. I dont know if its my style but after drawing for so long when i draw trees, bushes, clouds, water, etc it looks unnatural. Its like i can draw but i cant understand the concept of trying to draw beyond that style and make it look better. is there any way i can get better and not make what i draw regarding texture look stylized and intermediate? I understand using pressure but its hard to draw light light w pen and dark dark. Also, is using tortillians with ball point a good idea? ty 🙏🩷 love your videos
Books 1 & 2 are legitimately some of the best pen and ink manuals out there. People in 2120 are going to be buying them, same as many of the century-old manuals out there today.
Best art teacher I've ever seen. i started to watch you at 11th grade now im in college. Too many things changed in my life. I know its gonna get better. It always does.
you know it's a good day when Alphonso posts
Will be posting more frequently soon. The third book is in its final third
Absolutely 💯
@@alphonsodunnwhat's the third book gonna be about?
It'd be nice to see the pencil drawing process for future videos.

Do you recommend sketching it pencil before starting pen and ink drawings when you’re just starting out? Or going straight to ink?

Yes, it would be cool to see your pencil drawing process. And some sketchs using fountain pen!
I just received your books today. Liking what I see so far.

When is the new book coming out?
When will the third book be published?
I have both books, as well as a lot of drawing stuff my late wife left behind.
What I don't have is talent.

Haha, I just posted a burger sketch yesterday.

the end result is awesome
To be teaching art in this manner, to explain basics this way, and in his own way tells me that this man knows what hes talking about
You are such a good teacher. Thank you again!

How’s it going with the third book? Really looking forward to it, and hopefully to more regular videos again :-)
Yes pencil too please!🙏
You got it
Can you create exercises for procreate? :D
Don't skip trend
I like Procreate, I’m just such a good ol’ traditional pen-to-paper guy. Nothing like it 🙂
man, I work with drawing, but I confess that watching this video made me more hungry than wanting to draw!
😂
