  • Episode 571. Thank you for subscribing, we made it to 8000! To celebrate, I have poured two 18 year old Scotches. Glenlivet 18 and GlenGrant 18. Both from Speyside and both well done. Thank you James for giving me these bottles! Have you had either? What are your thoughts? Are they worth the extra cost these days for the extra age? #glenlivet #glengrant #whiskyneighbour

Thanks to Triplecap, I just checked a current site in Germany, which requires the declaration of colouring and the current Glenlivet is coloured. I was sure when I checked in 2019 it was natural colour. Now, I'm not so sure any more. Certainly the current Glenlivet 18 is coloured!

It doesn't seem like 6 years already. I've been watching since the beginning and your channel is my favorite. Congrats on 8000... and that GlenGrant is a true "classic" Speyside. I would say #3 after Glengoyne and Glenrothes for me.

That is a great group for sure! Thank you for being with me on this journey. I appreciate your comments, insights, and encouragement over the years. Cheers!

Congrats on reaching 8,000 sub, Jon! Your straightforward and (very) informative style is rare these days, with so many whiskyTubers trying to sell us stuff. I haven't had a bottle of 18-year scotch in a while but will keep these two in mind when I seek one out. Cheers!

Six years...now at 8000 subs. WOW!
Many congrats and, I have to say, VERY well deserved.
Thanks from all of us for sharing your time, knowledge, and enthusiasm. Looking back on some of those earlier vids, well... you've certainly come one heck of a long way, and you've brought us right along with you 😉
Haven't seen GlenGrant here yet, but the Glenlivet 18 is now $215 a bottle and only 40 percent in our market. I doubt I'll be buying any more older whiskies, though I did splash out on the Craigellachie 17 recently. LCBO dropped the price by $55, unheard of! Grabbed a backup before it's forever gone out of my price range.
Made T.O. safely (traffic here is beyond insane)...
    Cheers, my friend 🥃🥃

Craigellachie 17 would be on my hit list too, especially at $55 off. Thank you for your kind words and for being on this journey with me. Glad you navigated the traffic! When we visit my Brother-in-Law in TO, the traffice is always insane! Cheers, and thank you again.

It is very hard to get a deal on 18 + scotch anymore.. You put me in the mood for scotch, I'll have to pause you until I pour myself a wee taste. Cheers my friend.

They both were. I prefer the GlenGrant, but the Glenlivet certainly has some quality notes.

Congratulations on 8K subscribers Jon! Thank you for another great whisky review video. I like both Glen Grant 18 and the Glenlivet 18. I appreciate Glen Grant 18’s big volume of flavour which provides the nice medium long peppery finish. If I remember correctly, it had some dessert like flavours (kinda like a short bread cookie and some lemon custard.) I also love the Glenlivet 18 because it has such a well balanced flavour. Super dangerously moreish! Sadly current releases of the Glenlivet 18 is only 40% ABV which is not as good as this one.
Sláinte 🥃 Jon! Congratulations once again!

Thank you for supporting me, and letting me sip this on my 8K video! I can really connect with the short bread and lemon custard for the Glen Grant. Both are good, but that is likely my favourite. Cheers!

That Glenlivet is an important bottle to hold on to. The 18 was "Rebranded" at the end of 2019, changing to a new label design, but also dropping in ABV to 40%, at least in the American Market. Love to see you go head to head, new and old. Cheers.

8K Jon, woohoo and big congrats! The Glenlivet 18 was one of those early fav scotches of mine and luckily it used to be at 43% abv. I have tried Glen grant 12 and 15 and I agree with a couple of notes you spotted, light pear fruitiness and definitely spicier than the Glenlivet 18. Both are good with their own shining characteristics and I would certainly try them again. Thanks for valuable reviews as always!

Congratulations Jon, what an achievement! If you prefer the Glen Grant over the Glenlivet with this 43%abv bottle, the new 40% version would definitely not stand against the Grant then! I've not tried the Glen Grant before but now I'm intrigued! Cheers 🥃

Great review. I’ve wanted to try the GG 18 for ages but the high price (about 275) has kept me away. I agree with you on the 12 it’s fantastic.

Ouch, that is a very high price. I wish I could say, one day it will come down, but I do not see that light yet! Thanks for dropping in, cheers!

Hey Jon - just curious why you said the LIvet 18 is natural colo(u)r? Is it on the label or the box? I have had a few over the years and never noticed that. Always assumed it was fake colo(u)r.

    • @WhiskyNeighbour
      @WhiskyNeighbour  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

It may be fake now , but when sniffing around in 2019 when I first did this, I found several people who indicated it was natural colour. OK, I just checked a German website and the current one certainly has Caramel colour.
