This acts as a wonderful tribute to two fine people; Bernard Cribbins, a splendid actor and narrator, and Raymond Briggs, who created books for everyone and gave us a Christmas present that will last a lifetime. God bless them both.
I was born this year and on the vcr my mother used to play this with me this was my first story still hold myself in it my favorite the standard the music in the end I cried a lot when the snowman melted so beautiful simple days
@mercedesscacco9002 it was originally broadcast without a narrator, which is the way it was intended to be seen as far as I'm aware. There are versions on TH-cam without narration that are just as good if not better.
@@1860mc oh yes am aware of this plus I was born in 1982 as I got older I saw and watched this beautiful classic now I like they have lots of different versions I enjoy it very much.
I used to watch this when i was young for the video tape. This video has a special atmosphere, i love it. I still remember the specific scence vividly. That's why I'm here in 2023, from Korea.
I remember showing this film to my children who now have children of their own. I loved this video so much we played it every day until we had to give it back to the library. Thanks for the memories.😊
I am forever grateful for this peaceful content that instill in me in my young time. I can't imagine what nowadays children may perceive with the post-internet mess.
My son was 3 when he was given this book as a gift. It had no words just illustrations. I read what was happening .... When we saw the ending, my son was crying.....and so was I.😢
We have watched this every Christmas since it was made. A wonderful family joining point! It did not used to be narrated - just the beauty of it to internalize it quietly. It means so much more without the words, because you make your own.
So, I'm 70, and I just watched this program for the very first time. It's beautiful! I'm in the US, and my husband and I went to hear Sarah Brightman last week in concert. We absolutely love her voice and her music! One of the songs she sang was "Walking In The Air." It sounded familiar to me, but I wasn't sure where I had heard it. Of course, she did a fabulous job, along with the young man who sang with her. I was mesmerized. When she mentioned the program that the song came from, I made a note to watch it and just did. The story and the artistry are brilliant and timeless. I'm sure it has been to many children in the UK what "A Charlie Brown Christmas" was to me as a little girl. I wish children would simply be allowed to be children and maintain their innocence for as long as possible. Merry Christmas everyone!
Walking in the Air absolutely masterpiece the best song ever made listened to it millions of times never gets old this song is more than a song for me it’s my childhood flashback
I did not expect that sad ending, omg! I nearly cried as an adult 😢 wow, I remember seeing this book as a child but I sadly never got to read them. Still, the nostalgia is definitely there.. i can't wait to show this to my future children ❄️🤍
Oh I bawled at the end (again, 30 years later) 😂. It's such a well-told story, with such a bittersweet ending. It teaches children one of life's most painful truths; and reminds us all to cherish those we hold dearly while we still have them ☃️🥺
Thank you for this wonderful little movie. Unce upon a time a looked ist with my sons, never forget it. The melody is also unforgotten to me. I love it so much!
This was a movie that my Grandma and I used to watch every Christmas when I was a kid. It is a very special film to me but even more so now because Grandma passed away just this past November. I could not watch the ending without tearing up. With the music and the imagery of the melted snowman, it was just too much for me to handle. Sorry for the buzzkill comment but typing this out was comforting to me. If you lost someone this year then my heart goes out to you and I hope you are finding good way to cope.
We bought The Snowman book and read it to my children the year it came out. We would then ritually watch the film on TV every Christmas. Those memories still bring a tear to my eye even now.
I hope someday that you get to see one! I live in a very snowy area, but would love to see the beautiful tropics someday. I'd trade you with you for one holiday season if I could! :)
Love the audio version of The Snowman, as well as the film. I well remember listening to this on cassette in the 80`s. Sad that Bernard has now passed away, such a great actor :-(
I don't know what made me think of this film. My mother would rent this for me every winter when I was younger starting around the age of 4. The main thing I remembered "what was that animated film with the snowman and and the motorcycle". Not gonna lie, this has me balling my eyes out, remembering what it was like to take so much joy in renting a VHS from the local library and watching a ridiculous animated film of a snow man that comes to life and entertains a child, life being simpler and the world hadn't gone to complete…well you know. Im 40 now and hope to one day share this with a child of my own.
I really anyjoyed This beautiful video somuch I hád The book of the snowmen when I was a Young Boy for Christmas I fell in love with the book and movie thanks somuch for sharing the video with me thanks
I could see how long the creator use to make this, the animation was great and I hope everyone watching this will praise the creator for how long he worked for this, god bless the creator and let him rise to the great and bright heaven:)
Lovely narration! I've seen and watched "The Snowman" from childhood, and I've never gotten tired of it. I love the story, it's magical and it's a bit sad after the Snowman melts. I always wondered if somehow, the Snowman got to live with Santa Claus in the North Pole. I always imagined that was the case. I like happy endings!😊😊
I've watched this every Christmas Eve since 1982. And i'm happy to say that I shall carry on for rhe rest of my days. The perfect Christmas present. Thank you Raymond Briggs & Bernard Cribbins.☃️☃️
I remember watching this in elementary school. However, I don't recall any narration. In fact, I watch this every year around Christmas and this is the first time that I can say that I have heard this version. How, after 34 years of seeing this amazing short film/cartoon every year, am I just finding this particular version? I am utterly astonished. I feel cheated. But now, as an adult, I am blessed, because I finally came upon this version on Christmas. To all those reading this, I wish you and yours a Merry Christmas. As well as a wonderful Holiday. Much love to all of you.
Qué ĥermosa, los dibujos,la música,la gráfica, la historia aunque algunas veces triste pero otra me sacaron carcajadas, bella, bella película, tierna...
Thank you! At first, the VO sounded like our very talented late "Davie Jones". Just read about the amazing Bernard Cribbins! Terrific Actor & Narrator!! Thanks for introducing us to this wonderful film!! Happy Thanksgiving to All!
Thanks for sharing. I love the narrated version. The only thing that’s missing is the final bit of narration which comes over the music of the credits. My favourite bit of the audio version.
I have a book with the same story from the 1950s. It was my favourite book as a child, but I can't find anything out about it as the front cover is missing. I don't know the author. It's exactly the same story: a snowman is built, it comes alive, they fly through the air, they go to a snowman party, the snowman melts in the morning. I wish I could find out more
Little mention of the haunting tune "Walking in the Air" by Howard Blake. Does anyone know the boy soprano who sang this? It's a most beautiful tune and reaches to one's very soul.
I first watched this when I was 6 back in 2013. Didn't care for it at first but a year later I started to think hmm you know what this is actually all right
It's Christmas morning 2023 and my 17mo daughter just sat on my lap engrossed in this through its entirety. She never sits still for more than two minutes. Pure Christmas magic 🥹

My grandma used to own this movie, and I still find a lot of joy watching it. I will never forget this movie.
This is and shall always be my absolute all time favorite Christmas story. Thank you for this gem.
I love that I'm not alone searching for this classic.
It's my favorite, too!! 🤗
What a classic I remember watching this at school it’s so beautiful especially the music I love the song walking in the air such a beautiful song!
Questi splendidi film perché li trasmettete solo n Inglese ?! Viviamo in Italia i bambini non capiscono e non li vogliono guardare

This is soo bittersweet, 😢 but it’s books like this that they do not make anymore! I watch this every yr now ❤☃️
I remember showing this film to my children who now have children of their own. I loved this video so much we played it every day until we had to give it back to the library. Thanks for the memories.😊

I remember my Grammy and I watched this when I was little all the time, she passed away in 2020, so it’s makes me a bit emotional
My son was 3 when he was given this book as a gift. It had no words just illustrations. I read what was happening ....
When we saw the ending, my son was crying.....and so was I.😢
A beautiful wordless story as I too remember it.
Oh yes...we all did too😢
We have watched this every Christmas since it was made. A wonderful family joining point! It did not used to be narrated - just the beauty of it to internalize it quietly. It means so much more without the words, because you make your own.
Walking in the Air ... is one of my all time favourite songs, I love it & taught myself to play it on the recorder flute.
One sadness in life is when those who give the best memories become a memory
I cry at least 2 times when watching this, in the beginning and in the end.
My wife got me a vinyl copy of this for Christmas and I’m in my 50’s. Magic
Yeah

Bernard Cribbins and Raymond Briggs died within a month of each other, in 2022, aged 93 and 88 respectively. Neither left children.
And Mel Smith 10 years ago.
Walking in the Air absolutely masterpiece the best song ever made listened to it millions of times never gets old this song is more than a song for me it’s my childhood flashback
It seems to be so dreamy and for sure I want to live this moment 💕💕💕

I grew up in the tropics, and have watched this as a child. From then on, I always dream of experiencing a white Christmas.
I hope someday that you get to see one! I live in a very snowy area, but would love to see the beautiful tropics someday. I'd trade you with you for one holiday season if I could! :)

He also voiced all the Wombles.
That song just brings back to me the joy of being a child during Christmas.
Wonderful short story...timeless and so lovable...my children still remember it and now my grandchildren will too.

Im an adult but still need to see it every christmas:) So I usually take my 4 nephews and 1 niece to the theater!

This looks like a lovely book, unfortunately it has NO Closed Captioned for hearing impairment.

Thanks for sharing. I love the narrated version. The only thing that’s missing is the final bit of narration which comes over the music of the credits. My favourite bit of the audio version.
Thos unlocks so many emotions. Why? I don't know! Maybe it's the fact I'm aging with masterpiece and takes me back to innocence
Я подсела на этот мультик. Будто я в детстве.
Love the 2d animation. 🖤🤎
Yhat was amazing 🤩 thank you for making such a beautiful video ❤

Peter Auty singing not Aled Jones❄️☃️
Little mention of the haunting tune "Walking in the Air" by Howard Blake. Does anyone know the boy soprano who sang this? It's a most beautiful tune and reaches to one's very soul.
13 yr old Peter Auty
Aled Jones.
Aled Jones sang it for the release of the record, but not on the original cartoon.@@manmaje3596
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I wish to book it should be a live action movie
I first watched this when I was 6 back in 2013. Didn't care for it at first but a year later I started to think hmm you know what this is actually all right
Shame I can't rewatch this as no one on yt has cc for us hearing impaired adults.
I remember watching this years ago on VHS and it had no voice acting just orchestral music for sound effects.
Interesting story about the snow and it's got Santa Clause in it.
*Claus
This would great way to add more words in this movie and book title "The Snowman" in order to add, write and type up about that
It's Christmas morning 2023 and my 17mo daughter just sat on my lap engrossed in this through its entirety. She never sits still for more than two minutes. Pure Christmas magic 🥹

I like this version even better than the silent original. I'm assuming Bernard Cribbins was reading from the book.
From 1982😮
Alessandro de Souza 👦 👦 👦
It’s missing the first scene where the narrator walks into the field.
7:56 I think the snowman is trying to say that he dosent know what that does but in 7:48 the boy tries to tell him that's the light switch
Bro I watched this in third grade
Has anyone got the text for this wonderful story?
Merry Christmas and Happy New New
This film reminded me about having a dream of dating my anime crush, only to wake up and I never dreamed of him again...
Why is there a narator? There wasn't originally
The music reminds me of stobe the hobo
