This is a fantastic tale of the pure of heart overcoming bigotry. Anyone who's experienced, sexism, racism, ageism, political or religious persecution will relate to this story. A character who's passion is unlike the people who he grew up around, discovers a place he can be himself, but faces enormous obstacles to get there. Along the way he exposes the futility of the other character's bigotry and bias and puts it all in perspective so that they can finally deal with the bigger issues in life.
This universal tale symbolizes the true unity of the human race. Despite racism, sexism, and every other form of bigotry, we are all on this rock together. The current political and social climate makes this the perfect time for this story to strike a chord with viewers, push them to take stock of their worldview, and take positive action.
The Wrong Rock won Best Animated Short at Burbank & Davis International Film Festivals in 2019 Director, Michael Cawood, is now a two-time winner of the Burbank International Film Festival in the Animated Short Category.
The Wrong Rock is an indie film made entirely through the virtual studio model (work from home). Hundreds of artists from all over the world worked from home collaborating online with the Artella platform. Lead by Michael Cawood, the team created the 3D CGI animation in Maya and rendered it with Redshift. Some of Cawood’s previous credits include Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Pete’s Dragon, Bumblebee, The Lego Ninjago Movie, and Happy Feet. Cawood’s other short film, Devils, Angels & Dating, has garnered Millions of views on TH-cam views.
The soundtrack includes an original song created by the band, The Mrs., and a score by BAFTA award-nominated composer Grant Kirkhope, whose credits include iconic video games such as Donkey Kong Country, Golden Eye, Banjo Kazooie, and Mario-Rabbids. I have to say the shorts are great but what I read of the people that watch and leave such heart felt comet's full of feelings and insight leaves me knowing I am not alone and there are still real people out here full of heart and caring. That's how you tell a story. You use the movements to create expressions and the entire conversation that the mushrooms had took place with absolutely no facial expressions, and no words! This reminded me what creating quality content is really about!

@@saintmary1552 yeah it's like we are fighting for nothing. I mean what is a country even? land? people? What is it exactly? Why somebody want to kill someone for land? A life of a living being worths a lot more than that. Why would someone try to widen their boarderline risking lives? Not just countries some people get so stingy about the land they own. I mean we all die after all leaving everything behind. Our body becomes compost to the ground.
Every human being differ from one another. A race is all about the language, traditions, habits, beliefs and the life style of a certain group of humans. Any other human is as human as we are. Similarities and differences that's what make the world beautiful. It is just how it is. So I don't see the meaning of not accepting and fighting for them just being themselves. I think it's stupid and selfish.

It's sweet! But I'm a little sad that the blue mushrooms stopped doing their little side-to-side dance, I thought it was cute.
The idea was some still did the sway but that change is inevitable, societies change over time, sometimes the changing influence is internal, sometimes external, sometimes environmental...
The blue mushrooms that were swaying were the ones being influenced by the jumping one's desire for happiness. It was the beginning process of their jumping. The moral of that is... don't settle for a sad outlook on life, or even a "getting by" outlook, reach for the sun together! ❤

Why is jumping better than doing this slow wave dance?
It reminds me what I saw the last 50 years: we did not have smart phones, each family had ONE phone "on a leach" and just one car.
We were playing outside with things nature gave us and we although rocked the world until now.
We were like these waving mushrooms.
Today kids learn everything very early and have so many appointments every week that they have just 1 hr childhood per day.
They are one with internet and always in hurry. Or in panic if their smartphones break or get lost. It is like cutting off both arms and legs. They are watching their idols (influencers... without realizing that to be always influenced means to be not yourself in this moment or even longer) and they reach out for this "sun".
Might be funny. For a while.
But is this always the one and only right thing to do?
Kids get tired, sometimes burned out, lots of them do not like who they are without smartphone, make-up, fashion, channel or whatever.
And when they calm down one day they ask themselves how they did lost themselves.
Both should be allowed. Be what YOU are and love yourself and the great diversity.
This got lost by making all mushrooms jump.
Yes, societies change. This is true.
But as a German born 25 years after WW2 I do not feel very comfortable with this sentence.
My culture began to jump in the 30s. Most of the people were poor and suffering from hunger.
They were really in need of a change. And they were jumping like bare feet on a very hot rock.
And when too many people begin to jump and all the others stop to do their wave dance it could be dangerous.
My country today is multicultured. Yes, there are always problems where many people are. Even if they are all born the same.
If there a no other cultures or any differences people divide each other in men and women, in traders and farmers or whatever.
Here poeple live mostly peaceful and we do not have policemen who kill innocent people because of their colour of skin.
Sometimes there are Nazis found in such jobs. But they do not have any support.
So I really wish to have all kind of dancers, jumpers and whatever mushrooms can do.
Because a mushroom sometimes need to jump towards the sun and sometimes to some yoga dance to come back to earth. And no mushroom should forget about the own roots.
Be proud of what you are.

A tragic ending would have been adequate. You always put yourself on the spot when you are rooting for someone or people that are not the norm in case they do badly

The boat was smashing and two travelers were left. When they caught eyes, I assumed the one traveler that could OBVIOUSLY save itself would try and help the mushroom up. But no, oh no…our hero took time to even help save a comrade completely capable of saving itself…masterclass heroism!
The important message that we got from here is unity is strength. By united the connected two island and covered the island with mushroom,trees and bushes.
It's very difficult to accept differences, easily can be seen in the society.
Such a wonderful animation gives a msg that life, world becomes more wonderful when we accept different people.

Colors symbolize emotions. I think the blue mushrooms symbolized depression and yellow symbolized happiness and joy. I believe the blue mushroom gravitated towards joy and desired to be a part of that and desired it for the others of its mushroom community.

It will never cease to amaze me the emotional roller coaster these award winning short films take me on! This one had me in jaw dropping astonishment when the mushroom was pushed off the cliff. I felt such strong emotions for that little fungi. Brilliant.
This is stunning! A story told without words and even without recognizable faces! But, if you look carefully, you'll see it all! Brilliantly done!
What I love about short films is that they must make an impact in such a short amount of time, yet they manage to do it every time! And everyone who watches them also manages to find the “moral of the story” they personally need from them at the time they watch too. There is a bit of magic in this which makes these animated shorts so special.

What brought me to tears is those who worked this amazing short are from other countries. During the pandemic when the world was pitted against each other, these people came together and created this beautiful work of art.
Here lies the power of animation. It only takes a good story, a genuine protagonist, and a melody to melt the heart of the viewer in a couple of minutes.
This film is a treasure in every aspect, a total immersion in a tiny world (not so different, not so challenge-free compared to our own Earth) that blesses us with truly beautiful and original designs besides introducing the essential messages of unity, transformation and integrity (which are very valuable and vital for people of all ages).

It's is so good. It's like our earth u know. We are divided by an invisible barrier water and we think we live on different lands whereas in reality we all walk on a common ground which is right beneath our oceans.
We may look different, come in different shapes and sizes. We have different ways of living but in the end we are the same. It's so peaceful and motivationl animation. Hardwork never betrays.
