Wow. This is one of the best stories I've heard in a while. I'm really looking forward to get into finger drumming so I'll take a tip from your other video and invest into MPD218 and later the mk3. I don't think you know how happy i am that I stumbled upon your videos because I was looking for some good drum machines and saw your videos. Now I've dug pretty deep into your tutorials, it's awesome.

That’s an inspiring story! I only started in February this year with a view to providing some authentic percussion sounds for my live-looping tunes. I’m already finding many unexpected benefits. My timing and rhythm has improved, on those occasions I play with a real drummer, I can better understand what he’s up to and give more constructive ideas for grooves etc. Also for live looping, I feed a stream of midi notes back to my Akai and I get a cool light metronome and a bar counter so I know where I am within a live loop. As well as following your vids, I’ve been working straight from drum sheet music to practice Bossa nova grooves and specific grooves for specific songs e.g. Chameleon, Freddie Hubbard tunes etc. I also want to live loop some film themes so I’ll be using a more orchestral kit with timpani etc. It’s given me a whole new appreciation for percussion!
Awesome! Yeah I found that when your own rhythm improves it actually helps with editing and programming beats and other parts as well. I now just hear that the bass is 6 ms early and adjust it. Very handy :-) And learning drum beats from a sheet is great. It's not that hard to figure out actually and if you know how to do that theres an infinite world of stuff to practice out there.

Fantastic story! As you described, for a many years I tried play drums on keyboard and never had a good results. In the end I always going to loops but it´s a real problem find what you realy want. Sometimes you have a luck but this is not a rule! In 2014 I discoverd an app for Iphone that uses a virtual 8 pads like Akay LPD-8 and this was brutal change in my mind. As you said, the layout change all. Before, on keyboard, I had the drum concepts in my mind but never was possible made a good drum track. With pads, today, I realy can play like drummer, not like you, but this simple change in concept changes all!! Thank you for your generosity and remember, now you are our inspiration! Shortly after watching you I bought an AKAI MPD218 using your layout felt great, and since a week I've already come out with a song using finger drumming and it's all thanks to you. Music is all about a productive work flow having a means to add percussion to my ideas through utilizing my fingers instead of buying and learning an e-drum as I originally intended is far more productive.

Just watched video on your website and it's great story and concept. I've started with piano, than got interested in production and then with drums. Love the music but never actually believed in that I will play or produce my own beats or songs. Still long way to go but your course and teaching technique made all very pleasant and enjoyable. Always was sure that I can't keep the rythm and it proved me wrong. Thank you
Wow, that's so amazing to hear! Yes, I'm a firm believer that keeping rhythm can be learned and improved because I did this myself as well. One of my favorite drum educators and players Benny Greb has a DVD about the art and science of groove and he starts out by explaining that he did not have the magical ability when he started. He learned by focusing on certain things and improving them. Worked for him, and now it works for me and apparently also for you!

Hey Man, super inspired by your videos, I also bought a padkontrol way back when, and "never" REALLY used it. For writing I switched to Maschine a while ago, and now I will try out your pad layout! I have been dabbling with solo tracks for a long time, but I was never happy with drum loops, so I am hoping this might help me to get my ideas in the maschine a bit quicker. I have noticed that I am already practicing the finger drumming with your layout in the shower and on my mouse pad haha. So thanks for these videos, and keep 'm coming! Groetjes!
@@TheQuestforGroove As a 'real' drummer I'm always inclined to hit the snare with my left hand for the majority of hits so it's good brain-training to move it to my right!
@@TheQuestforGroove Same with the toms. A real right-handed drummer would have them going left to right of course from high to low. All good for giving the neurons a workout.
Haha yeah I figured that out after a few years... having never played drums my logic was to have the "first" tom to hit in a basic drum fill from high to low be as close to the basic snare kick hihat position.

Thanks for the video! I've always been a fan of electronic drums; however, I am a fan of real drums too, so I started with an Emulator back in the 90's then moved to Roland and Alesis drum machines and later with Kontact Komplete programming from the keyboard. It's ok, but I need a way to get to the sounds quicker and closer, so I looked for some controllers on TH-cam and your video came up. I am actually trying to use the Alesis SR18, but the feel is not that great, I think I will start with a 16 pad system. Of course I think I will use it like a drummer, as opposed to a machine. Then again, there should not be any limits...
I'm glad I discovered your videos a few days ago! There's still not much good information out there, and I think you're going to make it soon because 1. you're good at what you're doing, 2. you know how to explain, 3. the quality and the format of your videos are decent, 4. you look like you're a nice and generous guy. I started some guitar classes in French on youtube like 11 years ago and I focused a lot on rythm (there was nothing about the right hand at the time in my language). It became big within a year and my other channel reached more than 5 million views. Unfortunately, I had to give up because of a chronic tendinitis. Now, I'm on a new journey with electronic and cinematic music with the will to discover more possibilities using VSTs and real instruments/sounds. And I think you're going to be one of my virtual companion in this journey as I'm just starting finger druming and I like your style and the content of your videos. Please do a video with the Maschine Mk2! They're quite affordable now
I think it depends a little where you live. Here I could only find them for over €150, which to me makes the mikro mk3 quite attractive still.
